- In this video i show you how to change the fluid and filter in your 6R80 transmissions. I show you little tricks for keeping the gasket in place and keeping fluid off of your sway bar. This isn't a bad job and i do recommend doing this. ford will tell you just like all the others this is lifetime fluid but lets be honest, I don't know about all of you but i plan to break 500k without changing the transmission haha. This transmission goes in a bunch of different fords such as the f150, mustang, expedition and others. If you enjoyed the video please leave a like, comment, share and subscribe. Thanks!

BEST Video of this I have seen! I need to do this to my truck as well and you made it look like a piece of cake. I hope that my experience goes as smoothly. Thanks again for posting!!
Thank you that always makes my day! You got this, if I can do it you can do it. Let me know how it goes. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
Dude your videos are really improving with more time, Love the drone footage too! Good deal!
Haha thank you I’m working hard at it. I like the drone footage too. Someone real important to me just got me one recently. Thanks for watching!
"I Have to Say Excellent Video More Details then Most Other CZcams Videos Don't Show" !!!
Hey that means a lot! I really work hard on these videos. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Looks super easy to do
Ya it’s really not a bad job at all. It will also help you prolong the truck. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
I replaced all of my trans-lines because of rust. Next comes fluid and filter. Thanks for the tin foil tip.
Glad I could help! Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
So you can start the engine & shift through the gears with out installing the dipstick & cap ?
I always just hand tight screw it back on. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Buy a new pan with a drain plug. Always use a new gasket. Then you can do drain and fills every 15K-20K miles without removing the pan. The filter screen can go 60K miles between replacements. Fluid is cheap transmissions are expensive. Ford MC Mercon LV is made by Phillips Petroleum. Phillips Petroleum also makes Kendall LV which is way cheaper than the Ford products. Also, Mag 1 is a Ford LV approved licensed product and cheaper as well.
Nice input and do they make a aftermarket pan for this transmission with the drain plug? 15-20k miles seems a bit excessive to me but you are right fluid is cheap transmissions are not haha. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie Yep. Many aftermarket pans available online. Ford may even offer one too. Also, there is a dipstick kit sold by B&M that can be installed as well.
I appreciate your video sir! What is the operating temp you checked the dip stick at?
I’m glad I could help! Once it got up to about 195 you’re good to check it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Nice shots. I actually did this on my truck and replaced the pan with an aftermarket with drain plug. Unfortunately the rubber gasket I got leaked before I filled it. I bought an original steel gasket with rubber bumps and it worked great.
In addition I used an extractor to pull trans fluid out first. Found that I took a total of 4 quarts out. It did not spill when I pulled the dip stick first thing before starting and the truck was off. The dealer did tge previous change. I did the transfer case first and that was at the correct level. I ended up replaceing about 7.5 quarts back into transmission and I did not have any leaks. I did it with filling the trans till it was full. Then started truck. Filled to full again when running. I truly believe dealer didn't check fluid with truck running thus it was 3.5 quarts low for miles 105000 to 195000. Didn't notice temp change or shift trouble. Very little wear debris on magnet and I pulled a lot of weight with it for most of the summer before changing fluid myself. Still running great with no shift issue at 210000.
I put the aftermarket on so it would be easier to change partial fluid at 50000 mile intervals from now on and filter fluid at 100000 miles. Also changing front and rear diff covers so they have drains on them too.
Did you just cycle through R/N/D/2/1 or did you cycle all 6 gears when you were manual? Thanks
R/N/D/2/1 is all that’s needed. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I have a 2018 f150 3.3L 6 speed trans. Plan on doing this soon. Are the 6 speeds transmissions the 6R80’s?
Ya “The 6R60 and 6R80 are based on the ZF 6HP 6-speed automatic transmission. The 6R60 was a passenger car transmission and the 6R80 was for truck-based applications like the Ford F-150, the Ford Expedition, and heavy-duty applications in the Ford Mustang. The “80” is the transmission load rating of 800 Nm (590b-ft)” so ya 6R80 is the 6 speeds and the 10R80 are the 10 speeds. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie much appreciated thanks for the reply!
Anytime
I have a 2014 and I haven’t touched the transmission for 120k miles.. what changes do you see after a fluid drain and fill?
You really shouldn’t see any changes but maybe slightly better shifts. The reason you should do this is preventive maintenance. You want the transmission to last as long as it can. But, if your transmission is already having issues you may not want to change it, reason being is the clutch material is in it and it’s all keeping it able to shift and you flush it then that transmission will be done. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the pump and tube that fits the fluid bottle you used to fill the transmission? Also what size tube and pump? Awesome vid!! TIA
I got something like this a.co/d/ftYGpLz
Thanks! I’m glad I was able to help. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
