    It depends from rider to rider. I use 125 ml oil in each leg and about 2 bars of air pressure.

  • @09hollowtech2
    @09hollowtech2 Před 13 lety

    I took an air assist topcap from a 55 tst 2 and added a little oil to take up volume and curve the spring rate. Then, took the springs out ot the 888VF and had an air fork with a weight reduction. you need to play a little to get the spring progression right and keep the coil springs so when you clean the lowers and change oil you have the resistance to tighten the bolts against.

    I saw you used 5w oil. I have a similar marzocchi and i couldn't find any 7,5w so i mixed some 10w and 5w in same quantities and worked realy well.i dont have any problem so far!

    If it is too hard you must change spring for a softer one. Oil have effect on motion not so much on hardness.

    @frankster262 I have not been able to test it properly due to the winter season. Bike park opens at the end of April and I will tell you after. All I can say for now, rebound is pretty fast, so the compression. Will see how this translates to the track.

      Hello, I wanted to ask you after years what specific oil you say was best for you since I am restoring a specialaited Big hit 1 and it uses this fork

  • @bikebook
    @bikebook  Před 13 lety

    @frankster262 After 4 visits at local bike park, the conclusion is... 230ml 5w oil in compression leg makes fork much more responsive. Feels a lot smoother over roots, rocks and brake bumps. Rebound in too fast with 5w oil. Range of adjustment knob is shifted too much toward the faster settings - I hope you know what I mean. I will change the oil in rebound leg to 230ml of 7,5w and it will be fine.

    I did my suspension maintenance 10w oil but I liked the result in my city is very difficult to find oil of 7.5 then you should use w oil 5
    could please tell me how it went with this oil?

  • @bikebook
    @bikebook  Před 12 lety

    @jennylover456 You should try to find some manuals for your forks. All forks need some kind of lubricant. Only the very basic forks have grease instead of proper fork oil.

    @TheRoknemec Težko ti podam kakšno pametno primerjavo, ker sem premalo vozil ostale modele. Pri osnovnem modelu RS Boxxer me je motilo, da ima gumb za nastavitev samo en obrat, kar je omogočalo zelo grobo nastavitev. Mislim, da imajo dražji in boljši modeli to bolje narejeno. Vsekakor ti priporočam, da se malo poigraš z različnimi viskoznostmi in nivoji olja. Osebno mi na mojem modelu najbolj ustreza 230ml 5w olja v compression nogi in 230ml 7,5w olja v rebound nogi.

    thank you for the video upload! Supposedly, I own a second hand 888 2007 rcv, but the tops look different, I have air valves on top, with caps which you remove first to access the schrader valves). I wonder if I have a misidentified the model.
    I came upon this when searching for a cap to cover the sticking out part on the compression(right) leg.

    I changed the oil on mine and replaced the broken seals with RWC (Enduro) seals, everything went smoothly, poured the quantity of oil Marzocchi recomends for this fork on each leg. apparently everything was ok, once installed on the bike however, oil leaks out between the new seal and the black bottle....
    What can it possibly be?? Right leg does not do this...
