  • Here's a guide on how to replace (or clean) the Mass Airflow Sensor for the 2005 - 2008 Porsche Boxster (987.1). The procedure is different for the 987.2.
A dirty or broken Mass Airflow Sensor can cause misfires and performance issues. Cleaning the MAF sensor is a required maintenance item.

Have you cleaned your MAF sensor? Any tips?

I replaced the MAF(and also the 6 spark plugs). I also upgraded to a GT3 throttle body and an IDP plenum. I also replaced the pre-cat O2 sensors on Both cylinder banks. I should have replaced the coils too, but they were OK.
      My faults all went away.

I replaced the MAF, and it ran great for one day and started missing really bad, I swapped the old MAF back in after hosing it down with cleaner, and it fixed it for like another couple of weeks last year.

Nice!! Just got a 2005 Boxster 987.1 and this is one of many things I need to do as I do this for our other two cars (a Subaru and an Acura). And as you know, most difficult part of car maintenance / repairs seem to be removing old parts!!
Also I just joined Planet 9 and following your posts 🙂 Keep up the good work for a Porsche newbie like me!!!

:D Will do! Thank you for the kind words and that's exciting. That's an impressive collection you have. Yes removing old parts is "fun" hahah!

Thanks for the tip on those pesky security screws. I looked at mine and sure enough, there they were.

I have a bit of a rough idle on my 2005 Boxster. I'm gonna give this a shot. Thanks!

@@RuslanVideoFilms Well I got it all apart and cleaned. Big thanks to you on what tools (Torx Plus) were needed so that I could have them before I started the job. I think my moderate rough idle has been improved a bit from this cleaning and the engine is running a smoother. Thanks again!!!

Title and description have been updated for accuracy. Thank you for the correction.
Context for those reading these comments in the future - for the 987.2 the MAF sensor is integrated into the hosing #14 here: www.planet-9.com/attachments/air-input-jpg.123401/
