The biggest downside of the Q2, is that it makes me want more Leicas.
and don’t worry you did not buy the wrong one first. I started with M and then bought all and ended up with a Q. It will happen. It’s a bad thing but a good one. Oh and you will never have the right lens.
Tell me about it 😂
on my q3 i got
-uv filter + Black mist
-skin for body and lens
-leica thumbgrip
-idsworks grip
-screen protector
other accesories
-cooph rope strap
-exrta batteries
thats all
Where did you get your skin?
The Q2 bag from Oberwerth is a nice weather-proof luxury option. And the NiteCore Q2 battery charger allows changing the battery on the go, via a USB battery bank.
Ohhh I didn’t know about the portable battery charger! I’m going to have to check that out! I’ve been taking a bit of a hiatus from new camera gear - having unfortunately gotten back into growing my watch collection 🤣 something your channels been helping a lot with!
Glad to see that you mentioned the grip, I got my grip second hand with the coop wrist rope - absolute game changer. To other Q owners, get yourself an SF40 flash. It is pricey but the images are on another level.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve been considering a flash for a while but have never really shot anything with flash before. Will look into it!
Nice video, Desmond, but I take some exception to your statement, "(the thumbs up grip) will change the shooting experience for you." Quite accurate. It will make it worse, by eliminating a function button, occupying your flash socket and turning what was once easy access to your shutter dial into a reach-around nuisance. I find these pop-in thumb grips get in the way on any camera. But I find them a major detriment on the Q2, which was beautifully designed to solve this problem with a perfectly-molded recess in the body. If your hand is so big that you need a bait-hook sticking out the back to hold it, you should probably look at another camera instead.
Hey! Thanks for watching. Those a really good points. Especially with the two crucial pieces of functionality around the function button and hotshoe access. The camera definitely looks and works beautifully without the added ergonomics of the thumb grip - but I must say - that for a lot of my vertical/portrait orientation shooting - I love being able to loosely grip the camera with one hand while I try to get the right composition.
As for big hands - sometimes people with big hands want small cameras 😂 and the Leica Q2 is a very unique camera with a very unique combination of features that makes it hard to find a larger equivalent without going into the SL line it similar Sony alpha lines.
just ordered my Q2 today… thank you good info!
I bought a matte black stealth cover with hand grip. Absolute game changer and helps camera blend in.
I really enjoy your videos Desmond
Thanks Patty!!
excellent video
All Leicas benefit using the Thumbs Up grip. The same with a high quality filter. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for suggesting the back & front grip enhancers. They look like they’d be worth their cost, even though $400+ is kinda steep. One suggestion? Look into the camera more. Nice job.
I put a small piece of anti slip tape into the thumbs support on the camera body. That gives me a solid grip and costs a few cents only. For protection, I've the half case. I t was part of the deal when I bought my Q.
The JJC hand grip is excellent better than the Leica one as you can access the battery and memory card without taking it off. The Leica thumb grip is expensive but you can crop with it on as the button is very good.
Love this recommendation! I'll definitely pick one up and check it out.
Thanks, Desmond. You create terrific videos. I have the CL with the Leica handgrip. I plan to purchase the Q2 in few months and wonder if my CL handgrip will fit the Q2?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I doubt the CL grip will fit the Q2. The Q2 grips are perfectly fit and include cut outs and screw holes that specifically align to the bottom of the Q2.
But when you get the Q2 - you can just try it with the CL to confirm before ordering the Q2 hand grips.
Nicely done. Love your accessories. Thanks for giving us a guided tour of your Leica items... Can you please tell me the model # and/or name of the Tumi sling you have shown us..??? Thanks again for your video.
Would love links for the UV filter and screen protector
I have a round lens hood so you can attach a filter without taking off the lens hood that comes with the camera
Hi Desmond, I'm from Germany and I subscribed to your channel. Regarding this video I would appreciate some information about the Slingbag, many thanks Rainer
What Tumi model is the bag?
I found screen protectors to vary a lot (for the same camera). Some make it quite hard to see anything in bright lights and others are not conducive to touch screen use, being insensitive
What's the model Number on the tumi bag?
Just curious, what is it that makes the B+W UV filter better or higher quality than other common brands like Hoya or Tiffen?
I don’t mind paying more, as long as I’m getting an objectively better product but it was just stated that the B+W was better and not why, specifically it’s better.
Is it marketing? Am I paying for the name, or is there an objective reason?
Do they use a different type of glass or they use a specific kind of coating that lends to better optical quality?
I don’t want to pay more for a name, I need to know what specifically makes it better.
The thumb grip doesn't have that button though right?
I don’t like the hand grip as it only protects the bottom but nothing else and no access to battery and card without it’s removal. I prefer a half case with hand grip plus cutout access for battery and card and it also protects the body. That said all the rest of accessories are great. I carry my Q2 in a small khaki Bellingham case which I had for years and still looks like new and has a few loop and zip pockets for extra battery etc.
Unfortunately, you didn’t include a link for the nylon rope strap
Hey Desmond, how do Cuts’ t-shirt sizes run? Small, large, or true to size? Thanks.
Hey! Depending on the fit. Their signature fit - those run slim and are more form fitting so I size up.
The classic/relaxed fit - those run true to size for me. They’re well fitted around the arms and chest - but have more space around the torso and waist - which I prefer.
@@ItsDesmond Thanks, Desmond! Keep up the great work with the videos!
For grip - there are skeletonized versions that are not official Leica that have access for battery and card so maybe it can be better for users that shoot faster and for longer time. I saw one on Amazon but can’t tell what’s the actual quality (probably worse than the official)
Lim’s is a good accessible grip. I also have one for my M10-R
Hey man, what is the exact name of the Tumi bag? I can't seem to find it online on their site. Great video otherwise, cheers!
"Cuts" link is broken.
name of tumi bag?
?
does the thumbs up not dig into your body when carrying the camera?
It can sometimes - but honestly not get noticeable when I wear my camera near my side.
Desmond the thumbs up is no good for smaller female hands. I’ve tried it on Leica cameras before and it feels uncomfortable and not supportive.
It’s just an observations I’ve made..
The price of some of these Leica branded accessories are a BS rip off. Would I be right in thinking dealers use these to negotiate when buying the camera? Pretending it’s a great deal to throw 1/2 of these in. Thus Encouraging people to pay full price on the camera. Or is it like Apple? Where no deals are possible. I’m curious as considering a purchase.
Agree. I think most of the Leica branded accessories are too pricey for what they are. Like the thumb rest for example. And there are a ton of great alternatives to the hand grip as well that people have shared in the comment. The one place that’s probably hard to cheap out on - would be extra batteries. Everything else seems to have a much low priced alternative that’s of equal or greater functionality.
