    ----LYRICS-------
    Landed on the hilltop, soviet forces are in place
    Awaiting orders!
    They were only 39
    They were told to hold the line
    In control
    Sent into battle, came from the sky
    Trapped on a mountain, and into the fire
    Hold your ground
    When you're fighting those who fight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill
    You have to
    Hold your ground
    Kill the warrior in your sight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill
    January 7th, hold the hilltop at all costs
    Follow orders!
    Holding their ground
    To the final round
    One by one
    Fight through the sundown, into the night
    Enduring the darkness, awaiting the light
    Hold your ground
    When you're fighting those who fight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill
    You have to
    Hold your ground
    Kill the warrior in your sight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill
    Stand, hold your ground
    Come around
    Hostile land
    Your last stand
    Under fire low on munitions,
    Make your bullets count
    Push their warriors back down the mountain,
    Rule the battlefront
    Sent into battle, came from the sky
    Trapped on a mountain, and into the fire
    Hold your ground
    When you're fighting those who fight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill
    You have to
    Hold your ground
    Kill the warrior in your sight
    Death is waiting on the hill
    No surrender, shoot to kill

    Can we take a moment to acknowledge and respect the actual troops who held Hill 3234? For the sake of drama and the evocation of emotion, The 9th Company depicts them as having won a pyrrhic victory, however, in actuality, they gave the mujahideen the thrashing of a lifetime, wasting upwards of 200 fighters while losing only 6.

      6 KIA + 28 WIA out of 39 troops are pretty horrific casualties. Note, the Soviet company probably had only 39 troops in it (really a platoon or two in terms of manpower) due to the Soviet habit of having poor camp hygiene. Soviet units routinely suffered from large numbers of inactive troops due to disease in Afghanistan. Companies being reduced to platoon sized formations was not uncommon.

      @@AnAmericanDodo They were a company of Soviet Paratroopers. Also to what measure are we saying when we say they were "wounded"? This is anything from your face melting off and you surviving to a flesh wound from a stray bullet. These casualties aren't as "horrific" as you say when you account for the massive imbalance of manpower in favor of the losing Muhjahideen. There were between 200-400 Muhjahideen. So even at the most gracious estimate they killed half of all the attacking Muhjahideen. With that many people shooting at you, your wounded is going to be nearly total.
      Edit: there are also unconfirmed reports the Muhjahideen were Pakistani Commandos.

      jpc1981, you are repeating Russian disinformation (already repeated by "useful idiots" in the West). Terrorism in international politics is a creature of KGB (and it was suggested to KGB by British betrayers like Kim Philby serving Stalin). ISIS and al Qaeda are acting in Russian interests and there are facts showing their affiliation with Russian special services. Even the technology of 09/11 is a creation of KGB and it was given to al Qaeda when one of its leaders was "sitting in Russian prison" while he was searched by Interpol (in fact, he was at a training camp of Russian special service GRU near Volgograd) in 1998, when Putin was the head of FSB,. When this al Qaeda man was "released", just before Putin started his was against Chechnya, al Qaeda has acquired the KGB concept of using airplanes for terrorist attacks ... Of course neither Russia Today nor CNN will recall you that.

      The problem with that is simply this - As much as folks may not have wanted Afghanistan in the Soviet bloc -- the USSR was attempting to protect a progressive government from people who stone women and cut off heads, and blow up statues. We Americans would never have seen 9/11 if we had backed the right side or even if we had stayed out. We danced with the devil and 3000 Americans died in the WTC. No question, we backed the wrong side that day.

      @revanruler6404 Před 6 lety +126

      and the soviet union's fall led to one of the biggest geo-political crisis ever. The repercutions can still be felt today. Btw while the USSR was around those who disliked the US and the western powers could join the soviets, now they join terrorist organisations (which are far worse than the USSR). The USSR's soldiers weren't religious fanatics who had their humanity stripped aay through brainwashing, at least they could be reasoned with. The fall of the USSR played a huge part in the rise of radical Islam (and the US's constant meddling in the ME's internal affairs didn't help either).

    • @connordrew2634
      @connordrew2634 Před 6 lety +12

      Revan Ruler You're ignorant if you think that radical Islam posts anywhere near as grave a threat as the Soviet Union ever did. The Soviets had the power to turn the United States into dust with the push of a button. They could plunge the world into a Third World War if they pleased. Yes, radical Islam is a problem which has caused too many deaths already, but in the end they don't pose a direct threat to world peace.

    • @revanruler6404
      @revanruler6404 Před 6 lety +72

      so does the US and every major nuclear power, and besides the USSR didn't start ww3 did they. The US was just as likely to do it (maybe even more likely near the fall of the USSR). the USSR posed as much of a threat to the world as any nuclear power, the people of the USSR were just regular humans, the members of ISIS are brainwashed monsters who have no human quality left

    • @connordrew2634
      @connordrew2634 Před 6 lety +1

      Revan Ruler That's the point. The rivalry between the USSR and the West was always very close to collapsing into war. Therefore removing the USSR from the equation and replacing it with Russia would mean that both sides would lose any reason to plunge the world into conflict.

      All the "heroism" of the Chechen terrorists is to ensure that they captured school, blew up houses and organized terrorist attacks against the civilian population. In addition, the course of the battle at the height 776 per minute is known, there are photo and video documents and the testimony of captured Chechens took part in the battle. And if you're an idiot, you do not know - the Second Chechen War began it the Chechens attacked Dagestan and tried to occupy it. So that is what they were occupiers.
      And do you propose to write a song based on "sources" of international terrorists then collaborated with Al Qaeda and the Taliban, today sworn a ISIS?

    Deployed there as an American GI and am familiar with Afghan history. The 9th Company warrior paratroopers are bad asses with brass balls. Kill or be killed. We should have let the Soviet backed Afghan leadership stay after 1978. Our biggest mistake was trusting Pakistan, who set up heroin production facilities and allowed the mujahideen to peddle raw opium across the SE border; they protected the Taliban all the way until 2001 (Kunduz Airlift) and protected Al Qaida. Dont even get me started on the killing of Massoud (lion of panshir). It reeked of pakistani involvement to destroy the northern alliance.
