    ----------LYRICS--------------
    Many many years ago, when Persia came ashore
    Heeding Leonidas' call the Spartans went to war
    Joined by their brothers, a few against the fateful horde
    Hellenic hearts are set aflame, the hot gates calls their name
    A final stand, stop the Persians, spear in hand
    Form a wall, live to fall, and live forever
    Sparta! Hellas!
    Then, and again, sing of three hundred men
    Slaughter! Persians!
    Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender
    Morning has broken, today they're fighting in the shade
    When arrows blocked the sun they fell, tonight they dine in hell
    By traitor's hand, secret passage, to their land
    Know his name, know his shame will last forever
    Sparta! Hellas!
    Then, and again, sing of three hundred men
    Slaughter! Persians!
    Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender

    Fun Fact: When Leonidas told his greek allies they could leave, the Thespians and the Thebans refused and died with the Spartans.

      @@nuk3407 At the beginning of the battle, the Greek forces numbered around 8,000. In the battle, they would swap who was guarding the pass e.g the thebans would guard it then swap out with the Spartans. The greeks had ranged units as well such as slingers and javelin- wealding skirmishers. Most of these were helots (spartan slaves). They held of the Persian army for 2 days during which they endured wave after wave of assaults. Then on the end of the second day, Ephialtes the Shepherd (not a hunchback) told Xerxes of the goat path. He sent a force of 20,000 men to encircle the greeks. The 1,000 Phocians guarding the pass didn't surrender but withdrew to a hill. The Persians shot a volley of arrows and ignored them. Upon hearing this Leonidas called a council of war. He asked his allies to leave, many did, but the 700 Thespians, 400 thebans and 900 helots stayed. They marched out into the open field to make their stand.

      Nuk It was called 300 due to the spartans were positioned to make them look like a weak force of only 300 while in reality there was more than thousands behind them the spartans fell due to the secret passage that was defended by another greece force fleeining from battle after seeing the ammount of people

    • @k9thexv630

      How exactly would that trigger them? Conquering a city through violence, while being an impressive military feat for anyone fascinated with warfare, isn't exactly something to be proud of from a morally ethical standpoint. You can't really claim that a hypothetical song about the Fall of Constantinople would persecute Turks or Muslims because at the end of the day, conquering foreign land and then proceeding to treat the natives like shit is just another form of persecution. An act which every empire in history has done, of which the Ottomans are no exception. Then again, we're talking about a religion whose followers are willing to kill cartoonists for depicting their prophet in unflattering ways, let alone at all, so maybe I shouldn't expect the sensibilities of fundamentalist muslims to make any coherent sense whatsoever.

      I'd think if Sabaton made a song about the fall of Constantinople it'd be a song praising the bravery of the defenders and the betrayal from western Christianity, not the thirst of the sultan to conquer the "city of cities".
      So for that reason I don't think it would be a song that would be congratulatory towards the Turks for being so many and rich that they managed to take the city.

      The people of the Byzantine empire as historians call it today because it was called the Roman empire by its citizens but it was known as the "empire of the Greeks" by western europeans, was in fact populated mostly by Greeks but all its citizens spoke the Greek language.
      The Byzantines referred to themselves as "Romioi" deriving from the term Roman but meaning Christian Greek. They didn't like the term "Hellene" which is how we Greeks refer to ourselves today but also in pre Roman times, because it was associated with the pagan religion of the ancient Greeks.
      As for the few Italian volunteers, they are remembered in our history books and respected as brothers in arms against the massive invasion of Muslims but the fact is that there was no help from the west, mostly backstabbings.

      @Rοsαlίe
      Then you haven't done your research.
      All of Europe used to be Nordic, by nordic i also mean "Nordic looking". The nordic features are recessive and thus started to dissapear first in southern Europe due to Non-European admixture from Middle-east and Africa. All native and unmixed Europeans were nordic.
      Ancient Greek words for hues of blond:
      Xanthos=light blond
      xouthos=dark blond
      pyrrhus=reddish blond
      polios=straw blond, greyish
      chloros=dirty blond
      eychomos=blond hair in general
      melichloros=light honey blond
      Even the the words melas probably had the initial meaning of dark yellow like seasoned honey, but later the Ionians (the most mixed and urbanized of the Hellenes) gave it the meaning "dark". The abundance of Hellenic words for shades of blondhair proves what the original phenotype was.
      Do i even need to talk about the Greek pagan gods which are described as blond? Of course the pagan gods are not physical but personifications of mother nature. ie. Zeus is equilevant of the norse Odin.
      Odin=mind, memory
      Odin is the sum of all of your forebears etc.

    Google translate god knows how many times
    A few years ago, the Persian Empire was established
    Spartan saw Leo's voice in the war
    Their brothers, with horde shields, joined them
    Greek is Greek, which means they are gateways
    The end, the Persian extermination, an object in the hand
    There is no way to live in the fall of eternal life

    with the Persians
    Thanks and death, Spartana will not leave
    He broke it in the morning and fought today in the nuances
    When the sun shines in the sun, they fall tonight tonight
    The secret to the deceiver who hides their own state
    In recognition of his name, I am convinced that he will always be ashamed

    The Greeks didn't just deploy 300 Spartans to opose the Persians at Thermopylae. The Greeks initially numbered a few thousand soldiers oposing a Persian force ranging from several hundered thousand to a few million troops depending on who you ask. After holding their own for two days, they were informed of a possible encirclement and most of the force retreated. However 300 Spartans under Leonidas, plus 400 Thebans and 700 Thespians decided to stay and fight to the last. So it was not the case of a few hunder men holding back an entire army, but rather of their voluntary sacrifice in the face of certain defeat. It may be even more badass that way.

      The Theban contingent were essentially hostages to ensure Thebes, which had already thrown in its lot with Xerxes, wouldn't actively support Persia for the time being. According to Herodotus, they fought half-heartedly and surrendered as soon as they got the chance.

    Probably the most famous last stand in western history. Simply epic, and perhaps critical in saving western civilization as we know it (though definitely not as much as the battle of Salamis).
