Raymond Burr is my absolute favorite actor. I began watching him when I was a young child. I loved the Perry Mason dramas, but actually, I loved everything I've ever seen him in. Decades ago I learned that he lived with his partner. To me, his personal life has nothing to do with the quality of his acting. He was a quiet, kind, caring, and generous person. It's a shame that back in the day he had to keep his private life a "secret" or most likely lose his career. Today, actors tell us too much about their lives, and do wild things to get attention. I wish every actor was more like Raymond Burr and had some dignity and quality about their life. He was an exceptional person. Perry Mason was wonderful.

Raymond Burr refused to suck on a cigarette in the "Perry Mason" series. He would hold one, he would have a pack near him on set, he would light one; but when he was forced to act like he was actually smoking one, he would bring it to his lips and then jerk it away contemptuously. (That did not happen often.) All those things were necessary to get the tobacco company to pay for practically the entire production, but Raymond Burr left the dragging on cigarettes to other actors. When I observed that, my admiration for him increased yet again.

Interesting that the late Roy Cohn endured the same sort of rumors as an assistant to the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy during his hearings on communists in the U.S. Army and in Hollywood... but this time it was HOLLYWOOD spreading the nasty rumors and character assassination about his homosexuality.
And, like Raymond Burr, the rumors and innuendoes about Roy Cohn were 100% true. Cohn died of AIDS complications in Bethesda, MD in 1986.

This monstrous, murder-hard-hearted hypocritical prejudice, practiced by the 'approved' brand of monosexuality, is fast-headed toward the longing mouth of the wood-chipper of history!
Our younger ones are well-onto the rotten con of it, and are having impressively little of it, knowing now the 'standard plan' taught from the first slice of the "unkindest cut," to be the insanity that this mystically-derived heterocentric REPRO-CULT truly is.
The never ending heterocentric 50/50 WARRING, waged against Mother Nature within -- this carried-out in the name of supposedly "complying" with Her (as is favoritely-cited by living, arrogant mostly male steroided stinking hypocrisy), is a thing TRULY perverse, speaking of it.
As given such damage as done, it really should be no wonder that most of human males have in some form or other, been driven to barely-disguised madness by it! Within or without, Mother Nature assesses Her penalties for countering or ignoring, what she emplaces for rational use within us. It is ONLY a matter of how soon or later, that they are to be EXACTED on deniers! (And, most having no idea as to what it is truly, that so-eats them alive through life!)
Actor Burr, by some luck of happenstance, had a mind enabling him to counter all of the mad, cracked-pot Heterocentric hell in which he was 24/7/365, and worked-out this "opposites only please" immersion, to good and profitable end-effect. Most do not, and are teased-out and destroyed by the rotten old CULT in any way it can.
Liked or no, the history of it's denying horror campaign, is coming to it's vicious, malcreant career end!
Now "truth seeker." YOU might benefit by just a HINT's-worth, as to why YOU "never would have dreamed" of it!

There were actual PSA's warning young boys about "The Homosexual", showing men prowling around in their cars trying to "pick up" young boys, for a ride in their car. I agree, especially the practice of ‘outing’ someone. Think about it, if how one expresses one’s sexuality is protected by privacy laws, as in, “what they do in their private life is no one’s business but their own” sentiment; why, on earth, would you make it everyone’s business by outing them? I like to keep my life (mostly) private, I have had experiences that are difficult for others to comprehend, they have no frame of reference. Although they have shaped me, I don’t like talking about them. There is great emphasis on ‘transparency’ these days, but it seem to me the subject should decide what to share and what to hide: to tell their own story, as it were.

I have several programs of the radio show "Pat Novak for Hire", where Jack Webb played the lead and Burr played basically every other guy. There was always a femme fatale, and the droll delivery and dialogue is absolutely brilliant! He got to play all kinds of voices, I think it must have been a lark.

Hedda Hopper, who was famous for digging up scandals on celebrities and ruining careers, respected Raymond Burr’s privacy. That says a lot in Raymond Burr’s favor.

I once worked in a government office where all the men were Perry Mason clones, they look like Hugh Beaumont - straight serious looking guys in high positions, yet I found out that they were all closet queens....blew me away- this was in the early 80's. I grew up in the Gay community ( I am not gay myself) so I was use to the flamboyant gay men, but was totally shocked when I ran into closet queens who lived dual lifestyle...some were even married with families. Of course this was in San Francisco....

One who serves God doesn't hide, it's always the sinner who fears being found out. Most people measure one another with what's on the outside of a human being instead of being concerned about a man's soul. He lived a life that was forbidden by God, who said that liars, thieves, fornicators, adulterers, homosexuals were an abomination to Him because they were not OF him but were OF Satan, threfore none of them would be allowed to dwell with God in eternity. Money, fame, forturne, titles, accolades, kindness, charity work, won't mean a thing in the Day of Judgment. All of us will only have accumulated data of serving God in this lifetime or serving Satan.

@@beantrader4723 The scripture also says judge not lest you be judged. As a Christian we are not supposed to judge other human beings. I recall Jesus saying to the ones who wanted to stone someone, ye without sin cast the first stone. So until we are sinless, which will never happen on this earth, I think we should worry about our own selves and leave others to God.

the "Burr" building still stands on the main street in New Westminster, BC (at the time of the great fire, it was the largest city in British Columbia). the Burr family was one of the "First Families" of NW, and many of Burr's aunts were movers and shaker and over achievers in the city. The Burr building was one of the only surviving buildings after the fire in the early nineteen hundreds.

Mr. Burr must have been born, for the role. I've read ESG's biography, "The Case Of The Real Perry Mason", in which Mr. Gardner discusses being on set, during auditions for the series. Raymond Burr(who'd, previously, just, been an "heavy", a bad guy)in films, walked in to test. He was testing, for Hamilton Burger but, Mr. Gardner said, "that's him...that's my Perry Mason." The rest, as they...etc. One more thing: good pronouncing, on Mr. Burr's birthplace. You'd not believe how many folks, living, here, in B.C., say, "New West-minis-ter." It is, though, "Mission VEE-AY-HOH", in California. Again, great video!

I was born in the mid 70's and used to watch the Perry Mason reruns in the 80's as a kid with my dad, he instantly became a favorite. In the 80's I lived in the Sonoma wine country town of Windsor, only a few miles from his and Robert Benevides' ranch in Healdsburg, of course, I didn't know this at the time or I would have spilled my milk. Found out he was gay in the late 90's and I was very surprised but my opinion of him did not change, he was a brilliant actor and seemed like a very good man. I was in high school when he passed away, I wish I could have met him, he has become one of my all time favorites.
