    I had that exact problem last year, it took me several attempts to get a guy that actually offered me a refund, they insisted that they couldn't do it because of the type of ticket I bought.

    If only things worked as smoothly. It took me countless grievances, emails, complaints, phone calls, public shaming on social media etc for ONE year to finally claw back full refund back to payment mode for my partially REFUNDABLE ticket (it was 80% refundable). They kept telling me I can only rebook flight and can’t take a refund. Just knowing the rules and citing them doesn’t mean airlines or their employees will listen. They deal with thousands like us every day. It doesn’t make them right but just saying they are least bothered about legal threats.

    Should be a class action lawsuit against airlines for trying to weasel out of this stuff.
    I had them screw me over once I needed to change the day of my flight because I booked it over the phone and they selected the wrong date and I noticed when I received the confirmation email. It had been booked on a Sunday instead of a Monday, Monday was a little cheaper so I was due a refund. Instead of refunding it to my card they refunded it to the American airlines online wallet which you could load up to buy stuff from them and book flights and then refuse to transfer it to my card

    Any tips on how to handle insurance companies? My car was recently in the shop after someone rear ended it & their insurance approved me for a rental for $29/day. They said that's all they allow for the state of TX. They only work with Enterprise, Enterprise didn't have any cars available for less than $47/day. I had to take Uber everywhere & cover the charges myself

    Wow!!! Exact same thing just happened to us (my wife was traveling from Kansas City to Dallas & I paid 😜, American Airlines & weather & all). Wed 8/10 was the travel day, Thu 8/11 I called AA, Fri 8/12 refund processed.
    I think I saw this short a few weeks ago.
    Follow Erika, she's a lawyer who reads the fine print so I don't have to.

    American Airlines delayed my flight for almost 20 hours (three of us including my 4y old son) and didn’t pay hotels or anything, but a 12 dollars voucher for food at the airport per person. What would we be entitled to in this scenario? We had a lot of trouble because of this, loosing family meetings, one full day of vacation stuck at the airport etc

    Hi Erica I booked a flight to Hawaii with my family and yesterday I got an email that my flight got canceled because they lack pilot. Everything is set, our accommodation, I file a leave from work, my husband filed a leave from his work. Can we ask for much bigger refund for the inconvenience? Our flight is next month and I don't know if we can still book a flight given the short time. Thank you.

      You probably can't get a "bigger" refund, that would be the airline company basically paying you money on top of your whole ticket... it's not a law but if you manage to convince them that's probably the only way ; you can't really sue them over it as well unless they decline your offer to refund.

    Honestly why would you get a refund. You’d have to wait for that to go in your bank and most people can’t afford to pay for another ticket so you’d just take the tomorrow flight. The airline will provide hotel accommodation in most cases

    This one is correct, but the ticket itself is rarely refunded at the airport. Any fees not used however can be set up for refund at the airport.

    JAX to MIA to CUN
    Never made it to MIA due to mechanical issues with the plane in JAX. We almost missed our honeymoon and were left stranded. Eventually had to come out of pocket and book with Delta to arrive in CUN on time.

    Malaysian Airlines is refusing to refund or rebook tickets issued in 2020 and which were cancelled due to covid. When I call their global centre, they take all the details, put on hold and after a long time, just disconnect the call!!! Every single time, same outcome!

      Find out what their terms are. If their terms say you’re entitled to a refund, then contact their corporate office AND file a claim plus file a complaint with the dept of transportation. The tank & file airline employees don’t know anything.

    I don’t get it. On the Department of Transportation website it says that “consumers who purchase non-refundable tickets are not entitled to a refund unless the airline makes a promise to provide a refund or the airline cancels a flight or makes a significant schedule change.”
    I’ve been trying to get a refund on some AA tickets that my mom purchased but couldn’t use due to a medical emergency where my brother got a severe concussion.

    I feel like if I tell you I'm going to transport you from A to B and then I can't do it that more than the initial price of the ticket should be charged. Like I drove to the airport I'm probably going to miss a few hours of my holiday I'm going to have to sit and wait on the worst furniture I've ever sat on. If I was going to a concert for example I might have missed that concert. These things will vary on the cost depending on your circumstances but what if you are getting on a plane to say goodbye to a dying relative and then it gets cancelled and they die. How you going to price that up?
