if you're iOS user just use GarageBand it's actually a DAW for a phone with MIDI through lightning capability, but I have no idea what's good for Android.
Noiz is my aaaabsolute favourite free iOS music app. I've made releasable things in it and it's so, so much fun.
Auxy's free. It's only on iOS, though.
Sunvox is also free on Windows, Mac, Linux, and some obscure platforms like Windows Mobile and Raspberry Pi. It does cost $6-8 dollars on the App Store and Google Play, though, but you should still check it out. It's modelled after a chiptune tracker,but functions like a workstation.

Andrew I have a pretty unique idea I was thinking about for a song. here it is:
Make a song in any key you want and however you want BUT, you must ommit the root/tonic note of the key from the entire piece, so lets say you are in Eb major, you cant use the note Eb for the entire piece.
I feel like you could get some pretty interessting results. I had a look around to see if anyone had tried this before but I found nothing. You seem like just the guy to give it a go.

Stephen Ward I've done this! I recently wrote an RnB song in G major but while i was writing it I never played a G haha. it wasn't a conscious decision to not play it, I just didnt really think about it. I've since gone back and included a G in some of the chords, it added a bit of depth. But I think this is a great idea for Andrew :)

Stephen Ward thanks haha! at first I thought i was playing in C major and just so happened to avoid playing a G haha (i then realised that i was also playing F# instead of F so thats what sorta tipped me overhaha). my experience with rnb led to me to believe that I didnt have to play straight triads or anything, so some of the chords I had played actually did require a G (for example I used an Em as my third chord in the verse) but i omitted it just out of pure coincidence haha. But like i said, I eventually went back and analysed it a bit more and threw in a G to some chords to make them sound more full. So in all, I can't really brag haha, it was a complete accident

He was connecting his iphone to the his mac so that the sounds coming from his phone were inputted to the DAW (Ableton Live) on his computer.
The iOS audio thing never showed up for me in the audio MIDI Setup.

Actually this is only like 98% true - Nanoloop is on Android and is fun albeit limited, so is Pixitracker, Caustic is the most full-featured music app for Android but I haven't used the iOS equivalent much so can't say how good it is.

So I'm new into music production. I'm in schooling for it now and although I'm still learning the fundamentals, I'm excited to learn about making music. Funny thing I was originally a Music Education major, but some things had me move closer to my family so I changed my mind and enrolled for the production.
I think you should go into the forest and record some birds singing and make music of it

I really liked the whole idea of being able to make good tracks with just your phone. I think that what really stops a lot of people from doing things like that is the belief that you need super expensive high-tech equipment to even try to make something cool.

I've been making music with phones for years I do some producing with a laptop sometimes but mostly use phones I used to use my android even have a song on iTunes with a USB rapper I produced beat with android phone using magix music maker

ORO 0147 they have gotten a lot better, caustic 3 is a very good app

Fredable Tried it and damn it's actually pretty good! The interface is pretty hard and clunky to get a hold of though, but the latency is actually pretty low. Hopefully, this will be a stepping stone for even better DAWs for Android in the future.

The mac interface is so much easier to use. I was on pc for years and only switched to mac last year and i'm way more efficient on Mac. It may be different for you but from personal experience editing pics on mac is better than editing pics on pc
Yeah the interface is the same but I'm talking of the mac interface, the desktop, the way you used the windows (and all the things i can't remember the English translation) was for me better on mac. But it all depend of the user, it's just my personal experience with using ps on mac and pc
