I once asked an aged barber (he'd been shaving men's faces for a living, for over 50 years) how he knew where to 'draw' the lines of a mustache or goatee. He told me he asks the customer to smile. He makes note of the lines on their face as they do. He would then work the edged of the hair so that it naturally continued and complimented those lines. It's not at all what I was expecting him to say.. But I thought that was a pretty cool answer, all the same. Everyone looks better with a nice warm smile! :)
Awesome video, Nick! It looked like you were pretty confident with that straight razor. Good job. I might have to use my straight razor for a shave pretty soon. It's been about 2.5 months since I've used it, but this video has definitely inspired me to pick it up again.
Hey Nick, ever realize how weird you look after a clean shave from a beard? I shaved recently after growing a beard and I almost didn't recognize myself haha
I used to keep mine growing, and after taking it all off (usually keep a doughnut), I was asked for ID when I was buying some wine hehe.. Don`t know if I look weird, but I DO look like I`m 12.. Probably not a bad thing when you`re 37 ;)
Dude, Nick... It was so satisfying watching that beard come off in those layers!!! I don't know why, but it gave me an extraordinarily fulfilling feeling to see! The 'stache looks pretty good; wish I could grow one like that. Though when you put the lather on, I think to go across the grain, the lather covered the handlebars, making it look like a shorter, regular mustache. I gotta say that one looked perfect for your face. The handlebars look like they're needing a leather hat along with them...if you know what I mean... Though it might be kinda cool to have everyone at work start calling you Dr Handlebar. "Paging Dr Handlebar. You're needed in the OR Dr Handlebar."
Awesome Shave Nick! I too shaved off my month of growth with a straight razor today and it zipped through it literally like a hot knife through butter. Even ATG was effortless today.
Nice shave with the straight didn't look like it took much effort! I'm still learning to shave with a straight too and get small nicks like that occassionally. Still using my right hand for left and right. You've got the technique down!
Gondolier is one of my favorite Soaps/aftershaves from PAA. But then I bought Speakeasy and it became my new favorite scent from them. All I can say is that it smells like a nice cologne. I wish I could grow a beard, I'm always clean shaven because my facial hair is patchy. I'm looking forward to watching your reviews of your new soaps.
Hey nick are you interested on a blade renewer that's called razorpit for de blades heard it was giving guys months of shaves ..Like ta see a good review on one .. anyways nice video
Michael Pace I have always found that longer whiskers make for a very smooth and easy shave, with very little tug or hair pulling. The long whiskers just get mowed down.
Every hair is still only cut once, so it feels somewhat the same in smoothness. But the hair gets mowed, and can even get a little in the way. Let the lather be in your beard for some 2 mins before beginning the shave, and the hair gets softer, I feel.
JeppeHSchultz Great pro-tip. That or some kind of a pre-shave; anything that will soften and hydrate those hairs before shaving. Long facial hair, or short stubble, your preparation is paramount. Happy shaving!
does blade exposure make a difference to a certain point? I'm like 5 shaves in with my "Blue beards revenge shavett and I know a staight razor can flex more to your face where with the shavett it's just you and the blade's sharpness (I'm using feather...absolutely love it! thanks nick) but does a staight razor still beat shavetts? and also do you get deeper cuts with the straight razor?
I know u love PAA soaps, but there are just so many to choose from, what should I choose first? just about to finish a taylor of old bond street sandalwood tub and want to try a PAA soap
Nick! What are you doing?! That's a cut throats razor! Where's the Merkur 34c? You know that I bought a Merkur 34c because of your videos. I love the videos, I learn a great deal from them. Thank you for making them, but I am NOT buying a cut throats razor. Sorry Nick, but this is one rabbit hole you're going down alone. :-)
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but how long should a shave take? From a safety razor. I find myself spending to much time and would like to time myself to get quicker
Booooooo I wanted a DE shave! No worries, just happy to see you shaved again - the beard looked cool, but your contoured face is perfect for a clean shave!
OK, OK, I commented while you were doing your first pass, so I got my DE shaving at the end. But HOLY MOLY what the heck is the 80s porn star beard ^^ LMAO
Great Shave! You're right.. work with your straight more often, it will pay up, I can guarantee! I have the most sensitive skin and I now shave every single day with a straight (well... I had to switch from straight to a feather kamisori shavette, it's more practical and I do believe it's sharper)... BBS shave every single time! And I managed to take minimal time shaving that way in the morning, before heading to the office! it's my daily pleasure moment!
Manuel Rebello de Andrade I've noticed the same thing, shavettes are more practical daily use and when you put feather blades in it feels much sharper than a traditional straight razor.
I was using a sanguine shavette with a bic blade... funny enough, when I switched to the feather kamisori, I thought it was less sharp. But I was wrong. It's just different. Very smooth really. But I have to admit that although it feels sharper than a straight, it is less forgiving. but more practical ;)
Irving Carrera Get some Stirling Shave Soap and After Shave you will be Happy after wards :) Stirling Never disappoints and prices are Great and the Quality is top notch...
just an idea, you love shaving and love a beard....do an in between thing keep a Goatee, that way you have both the beard and the shaving :) you have enough facial hair to make a great goatee
Just FYI, Inox is pronounced in-ocks, not eye-nox - it's short for 'inoxydable', a French word referring to stainless steel More on topic though, damn if it ain't cathartic to watch a big beard get erased like that! Welcome back to smooth cheeks, Nick! :P

I'm getting a 70s motorcycle cop vibe from that stash
or 1920s inventor
Sad to say I have been looking forward to this for days lok
Mrs Nick must be really happy to see the moustache back 🙄
Awesome video, Nick! It looked like you were pretty confident with that straight razor. Good job.

@@afrog2666 I give my ID to cover the one taking the order. They can be canned in my area for not asking if you look young enough.

Finally I've been waiting for this video. Nice job. Should definitely keep the handle bar stash!!😄🤘
Hi, nice to see you back ! I will be watching you trying new stuff.
Another great video Nick! That straight really takes the hair off.
Nice shave with the straight didn't look like it took much effort! I'm still learning to shave with a straight too and get small nicks like that occassionally. Still using my right hand for left and right. You've got the technique down!

Way to rock the 80's motorcycle cop look!
Awesome video, you inspired me to go out and get me a straight razor!
Oh hell yes, this is the video I've been waiting for!
Nick! Nick! Nick! Nick!
Wow, looks like a carpet you're scrapping off on the first pass! Almost makes me want to use a straight razor myself!
That fu manchu is so awesome ! Haha definitely keep it that long 😂
you rock it like chuck "iceman" liddell mma , I enjoy all your videos, great stuff:)
Ah I had hoped you'd shave that beard down with the R41.
Next up, clearing the stache with the Hawk. Great video Nick, to bad I can't grow a beard.
You are rockin' that mustache! ;)
Finally you are back among wet shavers.
Great video, and I like mustache.
Ce ya soon.
Trim it with clippers first a lot easier and will save wear on your straight.
Great shave Nick! Good to see you have Mo for at least one day of Movember haha :P
Never knew a man that liked to shave as much as him
Hey nick are you interested on a blade renewer that's called razorpit for de blades heard it was giving guys months of shaves ..Like ta see a good review on one .. anyways nice video
Why did you hold the blade in your left hand? Are there any advantages?
Why everytime I shave with straight razor causing bleeding some area.
Nick, are you planning on using the Muhle R41 again?
Your wife won't let you keep that.
When you shave with a straight razor (or even a safety razor with decent hair growth) does the blade cut smoothly, or does it take some effort?
Michael Pace I have always found that longer whiskers make for a very smooth and easy shave, with very little tug or hair pulling. The long whiskers just get mowed down.

One word on the moustache: awesome.
Great job but it is very hard to clean moustache....😀
Try High Jump 47 from PAA excellent scent

Nick! What are you doing?! That's a cut throats razor! Where's the Merkur 34c? You know that I bought a Merkur 34c because of your videos. I love the videos, I learn a great deal from them. In order to do that I need a time to get to. Got any suggestions? Love the vids.
Nick, how is the protection from the lather from PAA soaps? I've been wanting to start using a straight razor but I want the right soap first.
I always thought Gondolier kind of smelled like Axe as well.
Awesome shave, bro! It's a shame you don't like keeping the beard tho.
WOHOO !!!
I am16. I need shave first time but my father doesnt teach me what should i do ?
thilanga prabhath just practice be calm and let the gilette do its job

great shave man....you look better without facial hair.....lol.....nice technique and nice precision...you the man bro
Tried the straight, couldn't get into it. I'd rather spend the time continuing to improve with the safety razor.
I like the stash but it looks a little bizarre with that haircut IMO. I'd take it all down to 1/8" with that killer biker stache.
Hey what are good soap for shaveing I don't know which one to get or aftershaves
Irving Carrera Get some Stirling Shave Soap and After Shave you will be Happy after wards :) Stirling Never disappoints and prices are Great and the Quality is top notch...
MARCOS JESUS MENDEZ Thanks agin I will look in to the soap and aftershave
MARCOS JESUS MENDEZ I agree, Stirling always make quality products for great prices. 👍
now that was scary :D
sounds like it was scratching your skin out of your face
just by the sound, your blade is not enough sharp! make sure your straight razor is sharp as hell and you will enjoy it more and more! ;)
Why is it important to hone and strop straight razor. Can't we just change blade when we find that it's not working efficiently?
🤔🙄
Chuck Ladell's younger cousin.
Please help me
you turned into Freddy Mercury
just an idea, you love shaving and love a beard....do an in between thing keep a Goatee, that way you have both the beard and the shaving :) you have enough facial hair to make a great goatee
Mac from Supertroopers

Dude you need an ear ring now :D
Just FYI, Inox is pronounced in-ocks, not eye-nox - it's short for 'inoxydable', a French word referring to stainless steel
More on topic though, damn if it ain't cathartic to watch a big beard get erased like that! Welcome back to smooth cheeks, Nick! :P
Ouch
You know, a bit less Danny Trejo and more magnum PI would be a good look for you, good face for that classic stash..
Is it me or with his mustache he looks like a cop who drives a police motorcycle
👍🏽👍🏽
Nick, stop this Village People thing. Face hair is slowly, but steadily going out.
if you like the beard and love shaving....... shave your head bald and leave the beard!
you not look good in mustache
Cut the stache
