I was wrong about the Huawei Band 9, but I was also right. And that’s why today’s video is a very important one to watch, even if you are not interested in the Huawei Band 9 specifically. Let me explain. A few weeks ago I made a first video on the Huawei Band 9, in which I showed that the Band 9 appeared to perform less good than the older Band 8, at least based on the initial data. Because of technical reasons I could only access a limited amount of data, but I thought it was important to show you what I had already. I now have access to the full set of data I had at the time, and this tells a different, and potentially even more interesting story; and not just about the Huawei Band 9, though of course we’ll be doing a full health tracking review in this video. It also tells you something about the testing of smartwatches, and the potential reasons why I might get different results from for instance DC Rainmaker or Matt LeGrand, but more on that later. In this video we will focus on two aspects of the Huawei Band 9: the sleep stage tracking performance and the heart rate tracking accuracy
Still, overall I think my testing results are good news for Huawei and their new Band 9. The results seem to indicate the Band 9 is better than my initial results indicated. Their new sensor layout might not be as bad as I initially thought, and my new testing seems to indicate it is roughly on-par with the older Huawei Band 8, though we do see some slight differences, some in favor of the Band 9 and some in favor of the Band 8. At least that is, if we consider the better of the two Band 9’s I tested. So, why would these give different results, and why were my initial results even worse? Well I have several theories. The first thing that likely played a role is that random variation in performance meant that the limited amount of data I had initially was unfortunately not representative of the actual performance. You can imagine that each time I do the same heart rate test, there is a chance it will be better or worse than average. This is usually represented by this type of bell-curve, where the height in the curve indicates the chance of getting a better or worse result for a single test. The first is that the way my bones and blood flow are formed on both wrists might make them easier to measure on the left side versus the right side. Or, it could be that the production quality of one watch was better than the other. I can’t say which of these is true, unless I collect a lot more data. Still the Huawei Band 9 appears to be quite decent overall, which means I can now recommend it if you want a cheap heart rate tracker that is pretty good. Also check out the results of some other reviewers! - Věda a technologie

He said check performance on other reviewers!! 😂😂😂 Mate, you're the only guy in the world, AFAIK, presenting data as deep as you do and testing so accurately. Sadly, you're the only human being we can believe how a watch performs. If you don't test it we don't buy it.
Right he is the only one atleast till date
100% true on that "if you don't test it we don't buy it" line because he's the sole reason I bought the Band 8 version
Yeah, it's quite rare for someone to be the ONLY source of specific information. Most other reviews are "hey, this watch is beautiful, has a lot of functions, good battery. Buy it"
Sad but true. For accuracy of health metrics, there is no one else
Agree! If there's a new smart watch on the market, there's only one guy i seek with the review.
This video is proof that you are one of the most honest people reviewing tech. Thank you ! Keep doing your excellent job!!
Thanks so much!
Swap the bands between left and right hands and measure again. This will help determine if the issue lies with the device or the difference between your hands.
I was really looking forward to the full episode! Thank you so much for this episode in particular and for all the work you do!🎉😮
Love your videos! The hard work you put into them is evident. Could you please review the CMF Watch Pro 2?
Your reviews of actual performance are incredible! Unfortunately most people will not buy on accuracy and precision. But those of us who watch you really appreciate your work.
Hey, buddy. Thanks for the new video. Your job is very nice! A question: do you intend to try Huawei Watch Fit 3 again? Regards from Brazil 🇧🇷
He already did it
you're the most trustworthy smartwatch reviewer out there. i always check your reviews before buying one. i and many others really appreciate your deeply scientific review. thank you.
Hey Rob, can you try switching watches used on your left and right for different sessions or days. Just to make sure that the inaccuracy is not an issue with the particular device. Love your reviews, Keep them going. I am still waiting for your watch fit 3 full review.
Thanks for the video Rob, would you do the same for huawei watch fit 3?
I have been waiting for this video about my Huawei band 9, thanks Rob😊👌
Its a drag that after all these years, health tracking watches havent evolved at all
😂 true..i have wasted well around 200$ till date on this crap. Especially on Xiaomi and Amzfit
@@PratikDeshmukh1well I got you beat lol I have a Apple Watch Series 8 and an ultra 1 also a Garmin Epix Pro and a Garmin Forerunner 965
@@PratikDeshmukh1 so around 3200 us dollars
Some devices are getting better, but it's a slow process over many years 🙂
That is why Garmin is still leading in terms of health tracking with two(plus one) useful data: Stress and Body Battery (And HRV on newer watches). Everything else is just a hit or miss. But then again, I sold my ForeRunner 255 because I feel my body: why need any gadget to show you how is your health? Waste of money...
Hi. Thank you for these reliable videos. As i checked out you didn't share any video about Huawei GT3 SE. Is it because it has the same measuring parts with GT3?
Thanks for the update!
Hope you can update Huawei watch fit 3 vidéo too! ❤
Once again Rob, thank you. I'm guessing without a proper HR monitor to check the accuracy, I wouldn't know if the optimal placement should be on my right or left hand. This is an issue.
Thanks for the update, Rob. This is precisely why people trust your reviews so much! Also, I've noticed that you don't do reviews of honor bands/smartwatches. Is there a particular reason? I've seen they have some very nice and cheap options but since they're no longer with Huawei I don't know if they're any good. Would be excellent having a review of some of their latest products.
Love your videos. Thank you. I have a big question I suffer from afib and I want a good watch to help monitor it.
Is it the same for the Huawei watch fit 3?
Your reviews are very helpful, thank you for that. Could you please do a review on Suunto watches?
I always appreciate your tests & reviews.
Great videos! Any chance you could test the Suunto Ocean? Greetings from Vienna :)
Great review as always, could you maybe do some of the new amazfits? Balance maybe?
can the band 9 be connected to an external HRM? I suppose going into the bluetooth menù of the band. thanks
Thanks Rob for the hard work... God bless you
Many users have complained about the accuracy of the Huawei Band 9's step counting
Dude thank you its a big help
Not to diss on your work which I follow since you re the only one doing these deep and accurate analysis, but for this comparison make sense you would have to do the herculious task of testing all the other watches on your left wrist, because probably they would perform better on the left aswell, so you would have another whole term of comparison in a general scale. Keep up the great work!
Hello
Sorry but I've been watching a few (now recent) videos for a heart rate tracker and make sure which ones are more accurate
If you don't mind can you please tell me a watch or appliance that is a better heart rate tracker
My fitbit versa 2 seems to have a mind of its own
Impressive analisys, thank you very much for sharing all this information!!
Can you do a comparison between huawei band 9 and Samsung fit 3.
Hey are you planning on reviewing the Withings ScanWatch 2? If not could you please. Thanks so much.
Thank you for doing so much work to review the watch
When are you doing Withings scanwatch nova & scanwatch 2 tests?
Have you changed devices on left and right hand?
I have Huawei band 9 for a few weeks already and I am happy with them. I have china NFC one... Wondering if there is any difference.
Would love to see tests for smart rings. There are a ton other than Oura. Samsung even has one coming out next week.
Maybe you already answered in a previous video or in a comment but do you measure how tight you thighten the watches ?
It would be a little unfair to loosen the bracelet a bit for one of the watches that you are testing.
Thank you for your videos, you helped me buy the Amazfit Balance after my Huawei watch 3 pro stopped working for no reason and I realized the absence of GPS on the Band 8 was a problem to me.
Have you or any other user test their step tracker? Whenever I woke up, my tracker never been zero. Mine always count around 20-80 steps during sleeps, and I'm pretty sure I didn't sleep walk.
It's also mess up the step count during driving or commuting.
Are you planning review for Ultra Human Ring Air?
surely swapping the watches over would have been worthwhile with such a large difference
right! 😄 Now I am wondering if this is related to you circulation on R/L wrists, have you tried with different persons using same R/L? Maybe now all watches measured previously
could be bias too ... Anyway great job!
I'm trying to decide between band 8 and 9 for a present. Thanks for the updated video
I went with a band 8 about a month ago and don't regret it at the slightest. Does a similar job to the newer band at a fraction of the price.
Band 9 has an ambient might sensor, which is very useful. I had Band 8 before and was forced to change brightness a lot of time.
Is there no chance you will review the scanwatch 2 at this point ? Really value your thoughts on all wearables the most 🙏🏽
+ 1 on this, I need a review for the scanwatch 2
Seriously please dude
we definitely need him to revisit Withings in general. Would love to know how they perform nowadays
Thanks for your hard work. Hope you are doing good in life.
Hi do you post this graphs on your website?
Do you have an educuated guess of where the Garmin Forerunner 55 would land on the graph located at 3:41 of the video?
Awesome video. Thank you very much for this work
Were you test the watch fit 3 on right hand?
Very interesting video as always... and a video that spaked an idea in my mind.
If we accept that the error on the two watches on two arms are independent (rough assumption), then averaging the resutl will decrease the error RMS (ideally by a factor of 1/sqrt(2)). But the reall question is does the Huwawei Fit App support this? I mean, can it simultaneously connect to two watches (or two devices in general) and average the results? If so, this might be a very good way to incease our devices accuracy and reliability... expecially when upgrading, we may keep the older one and wear them both in particular exercise sessions (such as interval sessions) for increased accuracy.
"......simultaneously connect to two watches (or two devices in general) and average the results....." Good idea MAN!!
Do you plan to test xiaomi watch 2 pro?
How does this compare to the Galaxy Fit3? Which would you choose? 🙈
Please review the Muse S. we’ve seen all these wrist worn devices. Please do an EEG device.
Can you review Muse S and Ultrahuman ? Have you heard of Sennheiser Momentum Sport ? Also you should consider the wearable blood pressure measurement comparisons as this will be the key metric in 2024-2025.
Would it be possible to do a 3rd rewiev of it, since the move to the newHarmonyOS 4.2 update ?
Can you please kindly recommend what is the best oxygen monitor watch? Please need for health reason.
He has videos for best smartwatches in each category, just look it up
What I love about fitbit is that they track overall calorie consumption during the day ,my question is what watches can do the same and which one have the most accurate data ?this might be another interesting session on your video
So, these or the mi band 8 pro?
Love your videos! Any chance you will review the Garmin Vivomove Trend? The Vivomove series hasn't received enough attention from your channel.
Ar GT3 the best afther the recents updates?
This is pretty good!!
I keep thinking about the Oneplus Watch 2, given how good it's battery is, and the interesting approach they have taken with the dual chip for the performance, I hope you will gain interest in trying it out and testing it out!! It seems a pretty good product!
thanks for the update! I'm convinced to buy this instead of Haylou RS5 and Mi band 8
Could you please review Suunto Race S? 🤩
Who is better: galaxy fit 3 vs huawei band 9?
How about "racing" two Apple Watch SEs against each other on your left and right hand?
One question I hope you answer, if I put my Huawei band 8 on my left wrist will it also be more accurate? And greetings from Spain
I mean, apple watch has a switch that tells which wrist you wear it on...
Thank you for the update
Have you reviewed Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro?
Have you reviewed Xiaomi Redmi Watch 4?
Have you reviewed the HUAWEI WATCH FIT Special Edition?
Thank You for the review 🙂. But if you asked me a suggestion on how Huawei will be able to make their Smartwatch highly accurate is if they will collaborate with companies who makes medical grade devices.
thanks Rob, bought the watch after ur initial review, happy with the heart rate reading it gives for my outdoor running, easy to connect to Strava, love the duration of sleep time (seems quite accurate even with the wake up times), I also feel that when I wear them on my left then my right, better reading on left.
What’s up man, how do you connected your huawei band 9 to strava?
@@jeanmikhailmendiola6913 there is a guide from the strava web
Interesting finding. Bet if you measure your blood pressure in both arms different positions, there is a difference. This could change the sensing, specially in mediocre watches. For me the Samsung 6 is HORRIBLE, doesn't pick HR or SAT in either hand. Cheers and keep the good work.
I cant find the outdoor cycling in the exercise list :(
Can you make a review of the med-watch? It's supposed to have great accuracy in blood pressure measurement, bedankt!
Thanks for the update
Hope this video is real deal
Thank you Rob !
So my conclusion is that... it's expected. There are low-end and high-end watches for a reason. I feel like we will never have much better watches regarding hearth-rate performances and sleep, or at least until a very long time. But imo hearth rate accuracy is more than enough for daily usage, as well as sleep tracking which in my case help my know when I fall asleep and when I wake up.
I compared the Huawei Fit 3 to my Garmin Fénix 7 Pro and there was absolutely no difference in the heart rate they detected while running.
Not really, if you go to the Watch Fit 3 review, it's one of the top performers, closing in to the Apple watches, and soundly beating most Garmin watches that are way more expensive. Price != quality, it really comes down to case by case basis.
Hi Rob, my own testing also differs from yours and also left-right hand gives a different results. For example Garmin watches works better for me than Huawei in terms of HR accuracy....that is the opposite of what you experience with them and I really don't know what to make of that...
YOU ARE the Max Verstappen of tech wearables review 🏎😂😂
What’s that mask you are wearing while cycling indoors?
thanks Rob.
If you have time, can you try honor band 9 / honor watch 4/honor watch gs 3/4/ honor choice watch? thanks so much!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I just found this channel. Very helpfull. My shitty Fitbit Charge 5 just suudenly does not work anymore. And thats already a warranty replacement for the one i bought, which also dead suudenly
Oooh my band 6 screen is going to shits after several years. I'm in a market for a new one either the 9, the fit special edition or fit 3
Same
That's because left hand are a bit closer to the heart than right hand..
Which is the best "smart" watch for cycling? I am asking because I know you are also more a cyclist than a runner.
Can you make one for oneplus watch 2 please 😊
I watch features review of watches from other established reviewer but I come here to see the data analysis
Hi, Which should I buy, the Huawei Fit 3 or the GT4? The GT4 is €50 more expensive.
They're pretty much identical in terms of HR and GPS tracking, pick whichever you like more.
They're pretty much identical in terms of HR and GPS tracking, pick whichever you like more.
Honor Band 9 Review? Thank You
Using a Band 8 at the moment for swim tracking in a lap pool and its pretty good, with everything turned on except AOD, and 5 hrs swimming per week, still getting 7 days battery life.
Xiaomi Band 8 Pro next? it has GPS, i'm really curious
What is very interesting (I have Band 8 and Band 9 that I bought today and updated) Band 9 updates faster on screen. The heart rate. Like if one says 98 it is always Band 9 first. Tried to switch hands too, same
can you test the huawei watch fit se.
Doctor Quantifier we expect the same test for the Galaxy fit 3 then lol
omg nooo I just got the 8 yesterday bc of the video 😢 😢😢should I send it back and buy the 9 instead?
8 still looks beter
Can you test CMF Watch Pro 2?
The problem it's either with one of the bands that is not functioning properly OR there's some differences in your wrists to the point that the device cannot read HR accurately. This is very weird...
Make a review of mi smart band 8 pro
With the current data established for the left watch vs the right watch, you should swap the watches and do the tests again in order to determine if there is a quality issue between the two fitness watches or if there is simply a quality issue between your arms, lol.
Wait when did you do Huawei Watch Fit 3?😂
