In this review we will test the new Coros Pace 3. The successor to what is probably the most popular watch that Coros made so far, the Pace 2. In this video we will focus on systematically testing the heart rate tracking performance, GPS tracking accuracy and we will also take a look at the sleep stage tracking, so you can decide if the Coros Pace 3 is the watch for you. And, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of this lightweight and relatively affordable watch from COROS. Let’s get started!
Let’s start with the design. The PACE 3 is marketed as a very lightweight watch, weighing 30 grams with a Nylon band and 38 grams with a Silicone band. This means it is very lightweight, but still about a gram heavier that the Pace 2 , which weighs in at 29 and 36 grams for the Nylon and Silicone band variants respectively. The band width of Pace 3 is 2 mm wider at 22mm compared to the Pace 2’s 20 mm. But these are relatively small details, a bigger change is the addition of a touch screen to the Pace 3, which was not part of the Pace 2. The 1.2 inch touch screen display includes an always-on mode and a night mode.
But, what is far more important to me is the sensor set. The Pace 3 includes the next-gen HR sensor, with 5 LEDs, 4 photodetectors, whilst still having a slightly reduced casing size compared to the Pace 2. It now also includes an SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen tracking, which the Pace 2 did not have, and importantly the satellite chipset was also changed. The Pace 3 supports all five satellite systems, but the major improvement is that the Pace 3 now supports L1 + L5 dual frequency while the Pace 2 didn't. Just to very briefly explain what this means: L1 is more or less the standard frequency used by most smartwatches. However, this single-frequency data can be affected by atmospheric distortions, leading to inaccuracies. The ability of the Pace 3 to also use the L5 frequency means it has access to additional satellite signals that help correct the inaccuracies stemming from atmospheric effects on L1 signals. In essence, using two frequencies reduces the error rate and offers users more precise location tracking and thus theoretically more accurate data for speed, distance, and route during any activity. - Věda a technologie
Your reviews are so thorough and entertaining. Nice work Rob! Thanks for the shout out!
Thanks Dave ! You too! It’s really important we get a bunch of independent tests of the same watches😊
You guys are phenomenal
What you do is invaluable.
Thanks so much! Your supports is really appreciated!😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientistAre you planning to test something from the Suunto series? Suunto is very popular in Europe.
Invaluable means "not valuable".
@@VladimirPaniNo, it means extremely useful
His videos are good, but a sample size of one is a really huge issue for being able to determine the accuracy of the watches he reviews. Differences in wrist diameter, skin colour, body fat, body hair, and other factors mean that the accuracy he gets may not be what someone else can expect.
Answering these kinds of questions are what good science does.
Thank you for every review you've made and the passion to always improve!
Additionally, do you plan on a review of the Huawei watch 4 or 4 Pro? Thanks!
Thanks for this review! Again, great work and commitment to scientifically reviewing this fitness tracker!
Exitedly waiting for the garmin venu 3 review! Thanks for your work!
I like your attention to detail, important when so many of these devices are sophisticated but the useful accuracy is unknown. Keep it up
Fantastic job man thanks. you have changed review videos to new level👏🏼❤️
Thank you! May be snagging this over Garmin's 255/265 as I use a Polar H10 for HR tracking, so the Pace 3 would be for GPS tracking.
Cant wait for Venu 3 review🎉
Finally, got to see you reviewing the Coros watch and a new one from Coros at that😎🍻
I'd love to see you do a big body composition scale review/comparison. I _know_ they aren't "accurate" per-say, but I'm sure some of them are more reliable and consistent than others. Having one would still be a lot better than forgoing tracking body comp metrics entirely. A lot of us simply aren't going to go get tested regularly for body composition. I'd trust your opinion on a reliable one at least.
Per se 😉
I've been desperate for this kind of info as well, but I feel like there'd be a large corpus of data you'd need to ingest and I don't think Rob's bodyfat is high enough to be difficult to measure.
The sad truth is we just need to assume all of the BEI scales are shit.
@@jft8994 can't be fucked with phone autocorrect on that one
Amazing reviews and appreciate your approach being scientist myself with focus on sleep research. Keep on doing this great work! I just have one question - are you planning to do a follow sleep testing of Coros pace 3 with more nights?
I would love to see the benchmark map for gps accuracy, just like the graph you did for heart rate. Awesome works !!
This is a really good deep dive into heart rate thanks 😊
Hey, curious to know, what are you filming with? Great video quality!!
Thanks for the review Rob. What are next on your agenda? Would you consider blood pressure measurement as a new health metric in your tests ? Aktiia band, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4/5/6, Huawei Watch D, all measure blood pressure.
Thanks for the video.
Just curious. When the line deviated a little bit, was that around taller buildings or passing under bridges?
I’m asking because my Pace 2 will sometimes have issues around very tall buildings (which is normal) but I’m wondering if the Pace 3 improves on it with its dual frequency.
The good thing is that I can connect a Polar or Coros arm strap to the watch and will get better HR recording by weight lifting. I think its a small thing you should add to your tests, as I would in general not use the watch, but a strap, and if I can connect it to the app of the provider or the watch itself it will get much better results in weight lifting.
excellent overview
Incredible job Rob!
Scientific method Is the only one that should be used everywhere!
Thank you for your job!
Now Venu 3 please
Do you also think the differences in ranking would remain the same if standard error figures and statistical significance were taken into account in addition to the correlation figures?
Any plans to cover the Garmin Venu 3 that was released yesterday? Holding out on buying until your review :)
I was just looking for this after watching all the normal reviews. Thanks!
Glad I could help! 😊
that's some top tier review ty going to buy the watch
Thanks for the most perfect scientific reviews... I can't ask for better reviews...
Just a quick question... which one should I choose from Coros Pace 3 and Garmin Forerunner 965?
Which one has a better HR sensor?
Very usefull, Rob!
But i am still waiting for Redmi Watch 3 test.
Thanks!!!
Another video! Love ur videos and dedication Rob 🎉
Rob, is there any Polar watches you are reviewing recently?
Thanks again for the database! Have been interested to look for great sleep tracking wearable and it has helped!
Can't wait for a test of the New garmin venu 3
@TheQuantifiedScientist
Nice job! I hope you can help me with an interest question, and I believe there are not much solid information about it around tbe internet.
There is any problem using fitness trackers/smartwatches/smartbands on the inner side of your wrist (palm side)? I mean, how bad is it (if bad at all) to the accuracy of the device?
Do you have a word on this issue? Maybe you can consider doing a video testing it, would be great!
Rob if you can test the new honor watch 4, i think it should be interesting also as regards the price!
Hi! Thanks for the very informative review.
Overall, which one do you think is more accurate - the Garmin Instinct 2S or Coros Pace 3 ?
Wow this helps! You think you're buying a GPS, heart rate monitor etc, but often you're only getting a % of that. Would love to see the Huawei Watch 4!
Thanks for your review, it is imaging, please let us know where i can find the Polar H10 or Wahoo trickerX in Worst to Best graph of heat rate analysis.
Do you plan to also test the Garmin Venu 3?
You have to test it again after the last update.
Will you be checking out the TicWatch 5 Pro (now coming in sandstone colour) and see how if they've improved the accuracy since your TicWatch 3 testing?
Nice review, is it Fair to compare this watch with huawei gt runner?
This looks tempting, but I think I will wait and see if the new Pixel watch releases and if it is better than the Venu 2. I would wait for a Venu 3, but 450 is a bit much for me lol.
Would you please also review the new "Amazfit Balance" Smartwatch? It seems the watch is using a newer BioTracker PPG 5.0 compared to the older GTR and GTS4 Watches. I hope this tracker improves measurements in your tests. Really looking forward to your Test.
Hi there, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me understand one of the tests you do. I see that you show both the accuracy of the total of each sleep stage tracked by smart watches and the accuracy of the tracked timings of each sleep stage. I am just curious of how to go about understanding the difference between the two measurements and why one is more important than the other? Sorry for the long winded question lol.
Could you also test the Coros Apex 2 pro? I think it would be interesting to see how it compares to the Coros Pace 3 and the Garmin competition. Thank you!
Hey, are you planning to do a follow sleep testing of Coros pace 3 with more nights?
Will you be reviewing Garmin Venu 3?
Can you review the redmi watch 3 active?or the redmi watch 3
Hi! which Xiaomi/redmi watch u would recommend for someone who workout almost every day? Also the new redmi watch 3 it is good?i love ur chanell you should had more subscribers!!
When you have Huawei that high up I would love to see a Huawei watch ultimate review as you've tested the top apple one. Would be cool to see that comparison.
In the future can you retest the watch 5 pro with the new one UI 5 update?
Hello, please let me know if this Coros Pace 3 without any accessories can show me real-time running metrics like cadence and stride length during my road running workout? If yes, can I bring these numbers to the main screen so I can take a look at them quickly while running. I would like to improve my form. Tks
Hi could you please do a review of Ultrahuman ring ? You do such thorough tests, I always try to see your reviews and opinions before buying any wearable tech !
Hey buddy may I know one thing ?. Do you collect all the data regularly before comparing those or do you collect all the data one time ?
Thanks for your reviews! Are you planning looking at the new Ticwatch?
Hi! It is not currently on the list, but let’s see 😌. Soo many interesting watches to pick
Please do a mi band 8 vs Huawei band 8 comparison after mi band gets a global launch. I'm really confused which one to get.
Hello, could you please review Garmin Venu 3 which was released recently ?
Please share some information and experience on Huawei Watch-D
Rob, still waiting for the huawei pro 4 watch 😢😢😢... Why don't also chestband comparison? There are a lot of them in the market, not only the polar h10, and cheaper also like coospo, magene...
Thanks.
Did I miss it or didn't compare R values to the Coros Pace 2? Curious to see how much more accurate it was compared to the Pace 2.
Do you have recommendations for watches that are better for weight lifting? I know Apple is good, but I don't have an iPhone unfortunately. Any Garmins, for example?
Can you please review the Huawei Watch 4 Pro? 🙏
Recently i get the Coros HRM band for running outside, and i'm getting almost the same bpm as in the cheap Amazfit Band 7 and chest band Magene H303; with variations of just 1 bpm.
So i don't know if it'd be good to buy Coros Pace 3.
Can you also look into overnight HRV? Or HRV in general? Do different watches give you different values in HRV?
For someone who can't get an Apple watch (Android) and won't get a Huawei for personal reasons, what are the best smart watches from your testing? I've heard good things about Garmin products, would you say the Coros performed better than the Garmin watches you've tested?
So...What the smartwatch do you recommend that is good for sports and health purposes?
Oh, very interesting watches, thanks for review! Like a lot your testings!
Glad you like them!
@@TheQuantifiedScientist yeah, I found them very informative. And I based on them I selected my current watches.
Will you be reviewing the huawei watch gt 3 se?
Please suggest the most Accurate Smart Watch to buy considering following,
HR
Pulse
SPO2
Steps
Price is no issue.
We are waiting for scanwatch 2 😮
Thanks you
thank you. garmin is getting too expensive to replace my old garmin. this might be best choice
The top models across brands (Garmin, Coros, Amazfit) cost about the same. And every brand has budget models.
Venu 3 review soon I hope!, maybe theyve improved the hr tracking with the new sensor since the new epix release
Yes i hope sleep tracking got much better than other devices of garmin... if so... i habe new toy for sports and sleep tracking
Excellent review!! Thanks!
If I understood right the garmin 965 has a better gps tracking but a litlle bit worst heart rate monitor? (from your videos which I saw)
Hey, Rob thanks for the great reviews! If you had to pick one: the Apple SE 2nd gen or the Coros Pace 3 for health tracking (running, swimming, weight training), which one would you personally get?
For me, SE 2nd gen is better still. Just have a lot of other options. The GPS is also solid. The only bad thing is you know... the battery.
Venu3 soon?
Have you used the dual band GPS for the test? It isn't the standard set up. I ask because my signals are even more accurate with the dual band.
Does Coros have continuous heart rate outside of an activity? I heard that outside of an activity Coros only samples your HR. I want continuous HR 24/7. Please let me know. Love your videos!
I used Apple SE 2022 vs coros pace 2. Heart rate was basically the same
Sir please review redmi watch 3 active, is it any better than redmi watch 2 lite especially in sleep tracking? It's newer but slightly more expensive than watch 2 lite
PLEASE DO THE VENU 3 by GARMIN 🥺🥺
Dear rob
Do you recommend huawei watch 4
Is the heart rate accurate?
And thanks for the effort i dont trust anyone in term reviewing smartwatch except you 😆
Are you planning test the Amazfit T-Rex 2?
Can you review redmi watch 3 n redmi watch 3 active?
Would u pls test huawei watch fit special edition
I test run 400 meters track with Pace 3, on standard run mode, standard GPS mode,.
The first 400 meters was quite accurate, then it get a bit inaccurate from there. Some lap reported 410 meters, some 420 meters. I end up with 5.2km, for 12.5 loops which is supposed to be 5km. I will test again with track run mode.
My 7 years old Epson SF810, give me very accurate and consistence distance of 398 to 402 meters. It does not have track run mode, just plain run. This old watch is accurate to 0.001km.
I am guessing this is the reason Coros Pace 3 is giving a significant higher distance reading since it is accurate to 2 decimal point, and round up to ceiling.
No comparison chart for outside running to other watches? 14:28
GARMIN VENU 3 PLS!
please review the mi band 8 pro
hi, can you review Huawei watch gt 4?
Please do redmi watch 3 active
Compare this to the 165, which one is better ?
Ticwatch Pro 5 or Garmin Venu 2 Sq. New Garmin Venu 3 is due for release soon.
Gamin255 VS Pace3
Which one should I buy??
They have similar price.
Review redmi watch 3 please
Does it record vo2 max?
I chose this channel for about smartwatches. real dependable!
Does Coros Pace 3 has continues heart rate monitoring like garmin?
0:11 for anyone who has seen the watch in person how visible is the stair stepping effect seen on horizontal lines especially on the the letter Z and number 7? I'm really not sure what to take away from these extreme closeup shots but visible pixelation bothers me a lot IRL.
Withings announced Scanwatch 2 at IFA and as an owner of the original Scanwatch, can't wait for you to get your hands on one and do a comparison.
Hello! Thank you very much for your reviews - they are the best! Please tell me, will there be (and how soon, if so) a review of the new Amazfit Balance watch (replacing the GTR watch line, as I understand it)?
