Hey @MandatoryFunDay I'm a 25 year old recruit for the United States Army. I have been rethinking the army after seeing what happens to privates when they come out as Transgender. I'm not enlisting because I want Uncle Sam to pay for my transition. I'm not enlisting to do anything other than serve my Country which I love so much. After seeing what happens to privates after coming out, I have two choices, wait another 18 months (minimum 18 months HRT before being able to enlist as my gender), or face the very real consequences of "outing myself" by telling my CO I'm trans after Basic and Training Schools. You are going to deal with at a minimum some homophobic bullshit (regardless of your sexual preference) when you are in the army from your peers. I believe as someone who has been on hrt for over 7 years and stopped taking them for the last year that you have more mental resistance with testosterone coursing through your body than estrogen and sprio. I am in the process of going through BMOQ reserve (CAD) and I have experienced zero bullshit from my peers and the course staff (i have actual boobs). Most are curious at first but then i just tell them and it is left at that. However, the US is going through some very weird bullshit right now in regard to transgenderism, and I'm actually scared for you guys down there, as its the gay marriage scare bullshit all over again. If you have any college or uni like at all become an officer because then your gender preference will not matter, and it will be a rank issue if that shit rolls your way. As a private, you will have zero rights or recourse if bullying happens and your command does not listen. In my regiment, we have a few gays and a couple transgender personnel, and none of the bullshittery flies for a second. to answer your actual question, I think you should get on hrt as soon as possible and go in as your preferred gender, as you are more protected that way and your command will already be informed of your condition. Get caught wearing a dress, panties, or anything else (such as toys) and a endless shit storm could come flying at you as a "man" and the shit already flies at you when you are a private. In my years i've only had one incident where someone called me a dyke, back in the early days of transitioning. At a minmum, get on hrt see how it affects you (it makes me more homosexual and submissive so be prepared for a sexuality swing if you aren' already like that), it can make you more depressed so watch out for that (and you do not need to find that out during basic). I applaud your willingness to serve your nation and protect your country, the army is a tough job and it will make you tough through pressure. I myself aspire to be a leader that my future juniors and men can look up to and come to if there are any problems because at the end of the day leadership's job should be to make things easier not harder for everyone else.
Going past 20 is tough. I was going to stay for 25 years but the day I hit 20, while putting on my uniform, I asked myself, “Why the hell am I doing this to myself?” I hit the retirement button the next week to cash out at 21.
I did 27 years total but 6 1/2 were in the National Guard so I only got to 20. By the time I did I was burnt out, suffering midlife crisis, depressed, felt I wasn't making a contribution, and feeling the Army agreed with that last assessment. I finally caved and took depressants, which helped _a lot._ So toughing it out for another few years for a promotion seemed feasible. But I took a hard look at the finances and my pension and opted not to. I miss the Army but leaving was the best thing for both of us. Fort Livingroom is the bomb.
@@EricDaMAJ I feel ya on that. If there’s one thing I wished I learned during my time was how to say “No” more often. I found myself carrying 2 full time positions and several part time positions while the weasels got the face time required for promotion. My services are more appreciated on the outside and I got 4 job offers in the first week after I hit the button. Between disability, retirement, and a far less stressful job, I’ll double my pay and live in a place I want to. A lot of people told me staying past 20 is losing money and years off my life. Those are what I call wise people because they were right.

Or some of the NCOs that got promoted over better NCOs too. But there's always someone who had it worse, so for me it's water under the bridge. I had enough saved to not have to do the corp or government employment. I live frugal but free.
You are the kind of officer that we need. One who has been enlisted and knows the score. Also one who can tell what's bs and what's real. Good luck with your troops.
Ooh Rah Sir. I appreciate you being real and pointing out that you’re no longer passionate about what you initially got a degree in. Same thing happened with me. I soon started college to go into nursing after Infantry school (USMC here), but I Quickly fell out of love with it and now am in school for business. I get my Associates degree this year and will pursue University shortly after 💪
This is awesome to hear! I am a 35F as well and currently been thinking heavily about commissioning in the near future! I'm about to continue down my college path as I already have 2 years worth under my belt and I am hoping by the end of my next contract I can drop my OCS packet as well!

Thank you for sharing your story. I think it's really important for guys and gals to know that going Pure Bred, or even coming in as an Officer isn't the only way to do it. I hope and pray that when I finish my degree, that I'll be good enough to be accepted into OCS, or even ROTC ADO and commission with my Masters degree.
It's amazing how similar the National Guard is to AD, SSG here. All your videos are so relatable... and frustrating😅. Especially loved the one I just saw about first leadership and first duty stations. Young soldiers do a 4yr and get to their first unit and ETS before really giving it a chance (esp. at DIV). Mostly because they get screwed out of actually attending college due to training, which is what they join for.
I don't understand the context to this video, and I don't understand half the words he said, but I was really interested and appreciated getting to know this guy. I was really pleasantly surprised by him wanting to pursue something in psychology after he retires. Got a great vibe from this guy, as if I didn't already!
You’ll love it as a PL. I also came in prior enlisted and when I got to my first company as a gold bar they made me the XO just because of my experience. I honestly thought it was a bad move. I stayed with that company for over two years. My last nine months there were as the commander. We had just deployed and my commander was fired within a few weeks of deployment and as the XO I took on the additional duty of commander. I learned a lot, but I really leaned on my NCOs. Once we got back I went to another company and took a platoon. But with the officer shortages in my BN I went to NTC with a platoon that wasn’t mine. Managing one platoon while learning how to be a PL was like drinking from a fire hose. I wouldn’t trade one second of any of it. Sadly our journey as officers gives us little time with our Soldiers on the ground. I’m 5 months in as a PL and I leave for CCC soon. But honestly I’d extend to stay with them. Like I said you’ll love being a PL. If you need help, reach out.

I always wanted to be a solider but I grew up in Northern Ireland during the troubles & pragmatically, it just wouldn’t of been safe for my family or myself for obvious political reasons. I immigrated to the US in my teens & literally a few days after gaining my perm residency I was approached my a recruiter in NYC, down near Jay St & for some reason, assuming I was in trouble or would of been deported; I fucking sprinted from him. Puffing a cigarette, a bucket of compound in each hand & in an Irish football jersey sprinting up the street I was nothing short of a recruiters wet dream. Eventually, I stopped; explained & honestly it made me think of how much I wanted to be a solider & within the following week I enlisted. My whole life, all I ever wanted to be was a bog standard solider. Nothing fancy at all. No high rank, no cool MOS, not even 18 series. I wanted to be a grunt. I spent eight years in the infantry, 11B working my way up to an e5 but lacked the points for e6 & as shitty as most of it was, I loved it all. After I became a citizen & met the requirements such as security clearance, I dropped a packet. I achieved my dream & more, I was content with that being my entire life. I lived for the uniform. When we lost our youngest lad to an aggressive form of leukaemia the army but more specifically, the lads was what kept my head straight. Keeping my head straight helped keep me focused on my wife & kids so as we could; learn to live with the loss. My wife’s dream was to become a physician & I never seen anyone work as hard in my life for anything when she matched, it was unexpected as it was out of state. Things were going to change drastically & she even offered to put it on hold but she was so focused on it & losing Padraig was a major driving force. I gave it up. It fucking killed me. I went from having my ducks in a row, living for the uniform & only really mixing with guys in group to moving to TX. I knew nobody, had no real hobbies beyond working out, was unsure about work, etc. To our new neighbours, I was an Irish guy. An Irish immigrant. “Top of the morning to ya” was something they said daily for years & id never heard anyone from home say it at all….it’s the same as Americans assume corned beef & cabbage is a thing at home, I’d never heard of it until I arrived in the US. My point is, I’ve seen this channel preparing individual for the day they separate from the military. To have friends outside, hobbies, etc. To enjoy your time in the military, embrace the suck because it will fucking suck & probably more importantly, to seize absolutely every opportunity that presents itself. I feel a real direction would be a video, explaining MOS’s & skills that can be used in the private sector. It’s something that’s rarely mentioned & people would be surprised just how useless airborne, sniper, etc are when adopting to civilian life. I realise I’m not explaining anything perfectly & id be ashamed to admit how long it’s taken to type this as a TBI interferes in more ways than I’d like to admit but basically some context as to how useful the skills of certain MOS’s are & what direction to go in when the uniform comes off. Nobody really touches on that I find.
That is amazing my big brother is year 22. When I asked why stay in there forever I got put in a headlock and told where else can I legally take out my stress and change the rules for that day if I want? And then he sang in the ARMY 😂😂😂😂

My grandfather from my dad's side served with the British army in north Africa during ww2 as an electrician. After the war ended and India gained independence he stayed on with the Indian army and was made an officer... he retired as a major.
Guard your expectations. I was enlisted for about 10 years, was an E-6 when I got my commission and was just putting on O-3 when I got out. I got disillusioned. It's like seeing seeing behind the curtain. I learned that people that I had idolized for years were just people, and some of them were not good people. If the USAF had a warrant officer, that probably would have been better for me.

I was a SSG that got my degree and I ran into some of my old Redneck backwoods NCOs try to hold me back from getting a commission I can assume out of jealousy.
I'm on my route to becoming a civilian, but god damn my unit makes it hard lmao 14 days till I ETS and they're trying to have me help out with a gunnery, the one friday I get to clear post and all the briefs I need to go to are on every day except friday i hate my unit so much :(
Honest to god run, run all the time because thats what you do in BMOQ (which i'm assuming would be equivalent to OCS for America). Strength training is not as important as cardio like at all. You are more likely to be punished with running over push ups. Don't do drugs or get into trouble (get as high as grades as possible so you are competitive in your choice of MOS because it could actually matter if you are getting in this year or the next when you apply). I am actually curious about why you are going to school first over joining and having the forces pay for you. Do you perhaps not want to owe the army guaranteed time of service?
I have an Exercise Science degree as well and I am putting a packet together. I see the AF has a direct application for that degree. Is there anything similar in the Army?

Since you went back to the same unit commissioned did you have to remind enlisted friends to stop telling you the stupid shit they are gonna do on weekends. :) I went to OTS as an e4 (SrA) and went back to my same squadron. There was alot of. "Look , just don't tell me your stupid shit" If you get caught and turns out, you told me. It's my ass.
No problem with guys from OCS. No problem with platoon leaders from the military colleges, Citadel, West Point etc. The real turd bags were the weekend warriors from some party school who realized their psychology degree leads nowhere and coming to be a platoon leader where you will have about as much experience as a PV2 from basic is going to work out. ROTC just needs scrapped.

Don't do drugs or get into trouble (get as high as grades as possible so you are competitive in your choice of MOS because it could actually matter if you are getting in this year or the next when you apply).
I am actually curious about why you are going to school first over joining and having the forces pay for you. Do you perhaps not want to owe the army guaranteed time of service?
I have an Exercise Science degree as well and I am putting a packet together. I see the AF has a direct application for that degree. Is there anything similar in the Army?

Since you went back to the same unit commissioned did you have to remind enlisted friends to stop telling you the stupid shit they are gonna do on weekends. :) I went to OTS as an e4 (SrA) and went back to my same squadron. There was alot of. "Look , just don't tell me your stupid shit" If you get caught and turns out, you told me. It's my ass.

No problem with guys from OCS. No problem with platoon leaders from the military colleges, Citadel, West Point etc. The real turd bags were the weekend warriors from some party school who realized their psychology degree leads nowhere and coming to be a platoon leader where you will have about as much experience as a PV2 from basic is going to work out. ROTC just needs scrapped.
