Why Does China Want Our Genetic Data?

  • What could China possibly want with genetic data from companies like 23andMe? There is no way it is anything good. Why is the People's Liberation Army, China's primary ground force, working with companies in this industry?

@emh5745 I mean given Covid 19s spread, it wouldn't seem likely that it was a successful test of a genetically targeted biological weapons.
But a wide diverse sample would likely be useful in developing targeting. And China isn't super diverse (I think it's like 90% Han ethnicity). Compared to countries like the US, and Russia (which are comparably more diverse).

They own so much real estate in Vancouver the province had to come up with laws to put a stop to their system. They actually have a system of how they did it! It all happens through a Chinese bank called HSBC. They are now starting in Ontario. It may be stopped because it has been bought by the biggest bank in Canada, who hopefully will keep an incredibly close eye on mortgages lent out. Hopefully put an end to it.

I believe its pronounced "wee-gher", just as an FYI. Also, I've no doubt the chinese military is looking into weaponizing genetic research as they are attempting to weaponize any other valuable research. I'm not as worried about the genetic research for a couple of reasons. One, genetics is far more complicated than a person's appearance. You as a european presenting american could be more genetically similar to a man from another continent and of another ethnicity than to someone who looks like you from your home town. Second, America has been an immigrant country from the beginning. There is no "American" genetic marker that could be used to target a high enough percentage of us to be effective. Any attempt would also target their own people. There's not a trait or single group of traits that could be used to identify an american population. Some ppl think the coronavirus pandemic was a chinese power play. If it was, it was incompetent. China is still dealing with the negative effects of the Pandemic. I take great comfort in the incompetence of humanity.

They would use it for ballast on trips back from America to China. What was in our trash you asked only our mail, documents, prescription bottles. The list goes on. Sometime around the late '80s early '90s they started caution everybody in America to shred your trash. Especially any mail or personal documents even a magazine can give them a lot of information from the sticker or print on the magazines. The subscribers address name everything is printed on it. I have ideas of what they want to use this information for but unfortunately I cannot confirm or deny anything. Yes thats true but false as well!
Indeed genetic difference between two people in especially Tansania just from different villages nearbye can be larger than anywhere in the rest of the world.
What means North-Norwegian, South-Italien and Japanese (and every soul living inbetween) are genetically more related than those in Africa in nearby villages. Not important that in Tansania they are very likely black and especially being black or white itself is just an minior attribute - but over hyped by our human focus on visual and patern matching. On the other side It will be very easy to identify genetic combination e.g. absent to all Chinese.
And Target them. It is as easy as pointing to red haired like done in middle age just now with more modern tools!

Thats where you would have to define yourself by labeling yourself as one of Asian, Black or "Caucasian" whilst on the next Page they add their heritage data from 23andme AND are proud of their whatever- bloodline AND are offended if you tell them they themself have for sure some Percent Neandertaler genes (unless they are purly decendent from sub Sahara).
      To complicate eh?
Just think about this way: give every human being alive now (and ever lived) a uniq number from 1 to 100 Billion and apply Mathematics and forget about race. Thats genetic information. To now use this you can Target the odd numbers, find the ones that can be divided by five or are Prime or search for people with a 2222 in their number. Thats about what can be made. Not much room for direcrly applying "race" in this Mathematics model. Your concept of race from biology applicable for Galapagos turtle or Darwin fincs is just not applicable as it is from a parallel Universe.

I mean, why would China not try and develop bio weapons when historically the US, UK, and Soviet Union have (and to some extent likely still are).
That's not to say that China didn’t see syphon filter as a suggested answer to their "Uyghur problem".
Ironically enough China historically seems to have seen moving into that area as similar to the US's history of manifest destiny (even running a campaign that said "Go West Young Han").

You know that they have some ghost cities, where they have replicated some buildings that other nations have. So maybe they have developed an AGI and it predict a nuclear war around the world. So they gather the material to build a sort of the Arc and populate their replica cities with people genetically similar to the original. Also the would like the replicate people in case something bad happens, just like we have silos for different sorts of seeds. If I understand their mindset correctly they think of life as something that is far beyond their current existence. They tend to think that they are insignificant and might even get reincarnated. Many seem to truly believe in domination of the superior leaders. As in life is a path of a dragon sole, who gets to the top because of its qualities and thus deserves ultimate power for being the best. So they might be interested in both preserving human species(populating the replica cities) and breading the new with better qualities.
P.S. I don't really know, it is just my personal speculations.

East Asians lack the enzyme ALDH2. As such, East Asains are predisposed to alcoholism immunity. East Asains lack the LCT gene on Chromosome 2. Thus, East Asains are predisposed to lactose intolerance. Africans, and Native Americans trend towards Lactose intolerance as well as only a few tribes in the Americas had domesticated milk producing camelidaes thus adult consumption of cheese and milk was very brief in evolutionary terms.
I digress, yes, genetic information varies significantly. Despite how much the media and social media tries to tell you we are all the same, we simple are not. There are lots of variationsin different races. Those are only a couple examples, but yes, the knowledge of those variations could very well lead to targeted weapons.
Fun fact, or not a fun fact, picture a skeleton in your head. That skeleton is a 30 to 40 year old Caucasian male. The pelvis is narrow, and the femoral head is more inline. The Skull is clearly Caucasian and the teeth are typically indicative of middle age.

Dont think its to worrisome creating a biological weapon to hit certain DNA. We know alot about it compared to 10 or 20 years ago, and the diversity in dna is extremely small between humans, so its almost insignificant, think its about 0,3% of a whole code that is diverse amongst all humans, compare that to a single herd of antelopes that have around 10% diversity in their dna. So basically races amongst human species doesn't exist, and we are all a large inbred family. Don't know if its propaganda or truth, but all chinese owned companies, needs at least one representative from the chinese government, and must report on everything going on in the companie. Witch basically would mean that if china own stock in a companie, everything in that company is reported on to the chinese government to the extent of the knowledge the shareholder have of course. Of course all countries and even companies do similar things, to risk assess individuals and predict threats to their ruling. Though it doesn't help worrying about it because there is nothing anyone could do on a individual level. Except unifying our inbred family against our leaders. witch would be communism, that will lead to dictatorship that starts categorise individuals to threat assess them.

Just think in 2015 when president Obama wanted to legislate a higher standard of cyber security in critical industries and the Republicans and industry had the temerity to cty that they were completely capable of handling it on their own and loot at now, companies are still far behind in cyber security becaue spending money on that might mean a few cents per share less for the shareholders and they will never take that option.
