PaddyPatrone hello, can you please tell me how much sun does a year old sequoia need? I have made the tetrible mistake of exposing my 6 month old sequoia seedlings to too much full sun this summer and 50% of the seedling has dried up though not dead so i decided not to expose them at all to direct sunlight this whole winter and they haven't grown at all since last spring and half of the needles are dried up....
My 4 sequoias died this winter. There were -29 degrees celsius, I covered them in snow but that was not sufficient. 3 years of work wasted but I will start new batch in a following month. Love this small treees tho 🙂
sorry to hear that, what a bummer. In Australia it's all about planting them somewhere with enough water lol (surprisingly they can actually do really well here)
That is so cool! I just ordered one of these trees, and will do a video series showing the unboxing, planting, and growth. If it makes it past the first season, I may even get a few more!
it's so weird how some of the little shoots become branches and also how quickly they grow so many branches. for many pine like trees it takes one year to grow a new ring of branches, but on giant sequoias and other related species it happens in weeks! :)
Wow. that was a beautiful thing to see. I have seeds in my refrigerator til november. I have learned so much. in these 42 seconds. I had no idea what to expect, Strangely enough I think I have one on my windowsill. I found it knocked out of its pot in my mums garden, after she left it. This summer, I had acted on my love for trees, and collected many cuttings and planted many seeds. I cannot wait to see what my first spring will bring. I cannot wait to see the next video (six yeras later)too!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
Your tree is gorgeous! I have a question if you don't mind. My 1 year old one I grew from a seed is doing really well, looks a lot like yours in the middle of your video. However, mine is starting to get brown tops here and there and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Overall, very tough little guy. I'm just curious if you had that problem or know what may be causing it? Thank you! 🙂
My seedling is about 2 inches tall with three leaves on it. At first the leaves were spread out in three different directions but now they've all kind of closed towards each other and are now pointing upwards. I water it when needed and it is receiving the proper amount of sunlight. Are the leaves supposed to do that or is there a problem?
wonderful video.... growing 2 redwood trees and 2 giant sequoias .(.we shall see said the blind gardener.)... they are all 4 inches tall right now (purchased seedlings) and am holding my breath... I have read they have a high mortality rate as a seedling.. is this true?
Hey I know you commented 3 months ago but if you still want some advice I can give you some basics. Depending on where you live, it may be quite sunny or hot, when transplanting any tree, you need to be aware that wilting is possible. So its obviously best to do this in the shade or on a cloudy/colder day like 15 degrees C. Also, there is a product called WiltProof that you can spray on the needles of the tree and will help stop the evaporation from the needles. when you transplant it take it out of the container when it is slightly drier though, this helps keep the root ball in tact and be lighter. transplant it in an appropriate soil mix, and a large enough container. make sure the soil is stable enough that holds the tree upright but dont compact it a lot or else there will be poor drainage. I dont know how much of this you already knew, But I hope I helped in some way. Cheers!
@@planterbanter Mine actually died over the period of about a year, slowly turning black and then dying completely. I believe the location where I had them planted it was too wet and the soil here is heavy clay. I actually have another one I just planted this year different location where it drains better and I’m curious to see if that one will do well.
@@noahr8670 I'm planting 21 real giant sequoias 10 sitka spruce and 10 douglas firs. my house is already surrounded by woods so im not blocking anyone out i just think they are some beautiful trees. :)
I got some seeds the other day. I was reading about how this is the biggest and fastest growing tree on earth. I thought it would be fun to plant them or at least make some bonsai trees. Every video I watch is like. . . .10years later. . . .still a twig in the ground and WOW 4' tall. Ill be dead by the time it looks like anything. Aren't there some tree steroids or something lol
With the right conditions, these trees can grow very fast. Plenty of sunlight, plenty of good moistured and ventilated soil. I found it to be quite easy.
+Tryinglittleleg Hah, so I quess these days even the Internet is getting smaller and smaller ;) . I watch all of his videos, he gives so much information and experience to interested people.
NEW VERSION OF THE VIDEO HERE (6 years later) : czcams.com/video/baQbl7FWark/video.html

Hey, only a few hundred years and you'll have yourself a giant sequoia in your backyard!
I've seen some non-native Redwoods in WA, I think giant Sequoia's, that were probably close to 200 feet in just under a hundred years.
Only takes like 40 years to become large compared to a normal tree.
That is so cool! I just ordered one of these trees, and will do a video series showing the unboxing, planting, and growth. If it makes it past the first season, I may even get a few more!
In 2,000 years your tree will be 250 feet tall. :)
Konstantin Vyazovskiy lets go
Please post update video in 2000 years I wanna see the difference
:'v
In 2 years that tree will be 10 billion feet tall
This is truly beautiful! Thank you for posting!

Your mum?
eyeball... I am sorry I do not understand your question.
You're gonna need a bigger pot, they grow to 300ft ;)
He put it in the ground
I love the idea of dynamic movement! :)))
Wow, awesome! It's neat to think that if given the right conditions, this will soon be like the General Sherman Tree.
Absolutely fabulous in every way!
May it grow up and be one the mighty giants this planet needs to heal!
Mucho lumber for chainsaw equals mucho $..
This is so beautiful 👏👏👏

When should it be strong enough to be kept outdoors? Also how much water per watering?
And here I am 6 years later damn just imagine how big it is now
I have one and it’s only 6 inches tall I’m excited to see it grow into that
very very nice!
we grow them at Welkers Grove Nursery from seed also. Yours is very healthy.
Is it possible to get seedlings to canada?
What kind of soil or soil mix are you using for your sequoias? Have you had to use any fertilizers? How about how much sun are they subjected to, etc?
Nice!

In Latvia we have USDA 5/6 so they have hard time to survive. Wish i lived in real 6th zone 🙂 Some advices would be great.
Got mine in a pot too but its growing super slow but looks healthy, how tall would u recommend it to be to put in ground?
Brad S after 3 years it should be ok. When the trunk is at least 1cm its ok
I was just wandering. What kind of soil did you use on the potted sequoias?
+nemodot nothing special, just some standard soil for garden stuff from a random Hardwarestore
+PaddyPatrone But, what about out in the eastern us?

Hi, I am growing some sequoias too. After almost a year I think my containers are kinda small for them. When and how it is safe to transplant them?

Hey is it still alive? If so can you put up another video of it?
Lovely
I'm only about 2 months in on my seedling, but so far, so good. :-)
how are they nowadays in 2021? I have just germinated my first batch

@@ThePhotographyHobbyist interesting, I’ll be planting them in different soils too, hopefully a few survive 😂
You grew it indoors?
0:17 is what mine looks like now :)
was this grown from seed or cutting?
seed
how tall/big is the tree after 2 years?
well i have tu guess since i did not measuere the tree back then. I think it was around 30 - 40 cm, but they can grow much faster tha that.
So they turn into a little christmas tree first before becoming a giant, mine is 6 months old now 😁
why the sprigs of the sequoia sprout darken dry?
I got see carefully at video ... at 4-6 month you had same process! Low leaves at ages of branches became brown and later low branches fell down all !
I planted Alpos blue sequoias to block out my nieghbors

they grow well under the right conditions. Give them sunlight, water and space czcams.com/video/baQbl7FWark/video.html
How did you this? I tried so many times but never have young trees.
what do you mean ?
@@PaddyPatrone the seeds I plant do not grow.
2 years of growth? mine are still midgets they are going on their 3rd year, only about as tall as my hand.

It might take a while though
