      PaddyPatrone hello, can you please tell me how much sun does a year old sequoia need? I have made the tetrible mistake of exposing my 6 month old sequoia seedlings to too much full sun this summer and 50% of the seedling has dried up though not dead so i decided not to expose them at all to direct sunlight this whole winter and they haven't grown at all since last spring and half of the needles are dried up....

    My 4 sequoias died this winter. There were -29 degrees celsius, I covered them in snow but that was not sufficient. 3 years of work wasted but I will start new batch in a following month. Love this small treees tho 🙂

    it's so weird how some of the little shoots become branches and also how quickly they grow so many branches. for many pine like trees it takes one year to grow a new ring of branches, but on giant sequoias and other related species it happens in weeks! :)

    Wow. that was a beautiful thing to see. I have seeds in my refrigerator til november. I have learned so much. in these 42 seconds. I had no idea what to expect, Strangely enough I think I have one on my windowsill. I found it knocked out of its pot in my mums garden, after she left it. This summer, I had acted on my love for trees, and collected many cuttings and planted many seeds. I cannot wait to see what my first spring will bring. I cannot wait to see the next video (six yeras later)too!!! Thank you so much for sharing.

    Your tree is gorgeous! I have a question if you don't mind. My 1 year old one I grew from a seed is doing really well, looks a lot like yours in the middle of your video. However, mine is starting to get brown tops here and there and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Overall, very tough little guy. I'm just curious if you had that problem or know what may be causing it? Thank you! 🙂

At first the leaves were spread out in three different directions but now they've all kind of closed towards each other and are now pointing upwards. I water it when needed and it is receiving the proper amount of sunlight. Are the leaves supposed to do that or is there a problem?

    • @michaelperszon8507
      @michaelperszon8507 Před 5 lety

      Hey I know you commented 3 months ago but if you still want some advice I can give you some basics. Depending on where you live, it may be quite sunny or hot, when transplanting any tree, you need to be aware that wilting is possible. So its obviously best to do this in the shade or on a cloudy/colder day like 15 degrees C. Also, there is a product called WiltProof that you can spray on the needles of the tree and will help stop the evaporation from the needles. when you transplant it take it out of the container when it is slightly drier though, this helps keep the root ball in tact and be lighter. transplant it in an appropriate soil mix, and a large enough container. make sure the soil is stable enough that holds the tree upright but dont compact it a lot or else there will be poor drainage. I dont know how much of this you already knew, But I hope I helped in some way. Cheers!
