Pine Tree Time-lapse 300 Days

  • Last Christmas they sold these stone pine cones in the supermarket so I bought one to try to see if i could grow something from the seeds. And it turned out to be one of my favorites this year. Definitely keeping this one going for longer so there will most likely be an update video coming end of next year.
    "The stone pine, botanical name Pinus pinea, also known as the Italian stone pine, Mediterranean stone pine, umbrella pine and parasol pine, is a tree from the pine family (Pinaceae). The tree is native to the Mediterranean region, occurring in Southern Europe and the Levant. The species was introduced into North Africa millennia ago, and is also naturalized in the Canary Islands, South Africa and New South Wales."

    we live on the edge of a wild fire burn area, from a fire that swept through here in 2002. The fire killed most the pines. After 21yrs, we see the pine trees growing back. The biggest being about 6-8'. Of course, they did not sprout for a few years after the fire. So that is after 18-20yrs of growth.
    the Apsen, on the other hand have taken over. Where there were none, there are now huge groves of Aspen, 25' tall, some about 3-5" in diameter. The elk love to hide in these groves, which are prominent in the draws between the spines of a hill. Also b/c water generally travels these draws allowing the aspen to proliferate.

      When we have conifers or other trees from seed (almost always little volunteers), it's usually about 3-5 years in a pot or garden bed before we can transplant. Then we have a wire cage or something to prevent deer damage for another 3-5 years, until the tip of the tree's around 6 feet/2 meters tall. Some trouble, yet worth it! 🌲😎✌️

    • @fluchterschoen
      @fluchterschoen Před 6 měsíci

      The concept is very simple and anyone can do this (which isn't meant at all to belittle this amazing video). To start with, it's not really a video - it's hundreds or a few thousand photographs that have been combined into a continuous stream. Which is exactly what a film (motion picture) is, except movie cameras take 24 photos every second and it's played back in real time.
      You could do timelapse in your garden, or in an indoor space like this one. The key things are to ensure the subject (the pine tree) is not moved, and there is a fixed camera mounting point that also does not move. You could leave the camera in place for the whole time, or if the point where the camera attaches to the tripod is high quality you could remove the camera to use it for other tasks (and obviously replace it in time for the next scheduled photo).
      You either manually take the photos once each day (or perhaps three a day at different times), or you could set up a timer to do this automatically.
      Once you have all your images, there is software (probably freeware) that will combine them into a video clip.
      I made a one minute stop motion video using the same basic techniques as described. Making a video over 300 days is something most people could do, but it will need some dedication to keep up the project - and you have to be patient to see the end results!

      @@fluchterschoen I know what a time lapse is but I want to see what camera/gear they use. if they have a camera on 24/7 with some auto timer. And what software they use to turn the pics into videos. Also they have new videos often. So they must have 20+ plants growing at the same time. One camera for all? Going back and forth taking multiple photos per day or one cam for each plant on some timer??? Thats the kind of things i want to see
