TY for doing this. I was introduced to B&0 gear in 1979 London UK....a kid in candy store. The company introduce refreshing styling/design that was unmatched......it was exiting and welcomed POV from my Radio Shack speakers that were hooked up to my Sanyo boombox, ..I was 15. I was the only kid rocking external speakers. lol. I remember being obsessed with everything B&O manufactured after 79'.

Your cables worked GREAT! While I haven't used PowerLink cables in several years, your adapters and cables felt more substantial than the factory cables --again, going off memory. Regardless, they worked GREAT and you were right about the auto on/off functionality via the PowerLink cables vs. standard RCA cables. Thanks for ALL your help Steve!

There is a segment of audio enthusiasts who upgrade speakers, an audio restomod if you will.
I picked up an old pair of 1960's Sansui speakers. I like the look of the speakers with the carved wooden grill, but man do they sound terrible. I'm going to be doing some upgrades, and leaning toward using the Klipsch cerametallic components as the copper and wood contrast would be visually appealing.

Great experiment. I am contemplating on doing the same thing for my father’s Technics SL 1600 MKII which my brother and I saved up our money to purchase it for his birthday. It needs some TLC to get it in proper working condition. The second project is to get his circa late 50’s, early 60’s Scott integrated tube amp and a Garrad Model RC 88/4 working again. If there piece of gear that you love, then it’s well worth the time and effort in restoring it to working condition. Since you got the ok from the wife, then this makes your “project “all the better👍🏾 I just want to thank you Kristi for being such a supporting factor in Andrew’s life. I bought a pair of used BeoLab 8000s this summer, plugged them into Pro-Ject Preamp DS2 which also has a DAC and sub out. The DAC gets sound from the TV via optical. After trying the setup also added a Dali c8d sub and now the whole setup sounds amazing. The soundstage of 8000s and their overall performance amazed me, especially after all this audiophile internet talks about B&O being abt the looks only. Total cost ended up being comparable to some Sonos setup, but it sounds better and, well, the looks, these speakers make the room look better.

Andrew, I enjoyed this completely! Let me say, I just recently got into B&O thanks to an elderly neighbor gifting me a BeoSystem 6500 receiver, cassette deck and the fabulous control center! Missing, was the CD player and the VERY hard to find turn table.

To shorten the story, I bought TWO CD players from eBay, and got one going perfectly. Contacted BEO-Parts in Denmark, got all the belts for the Cassette deck and tackled that MOST difficult operation, and am now really enjoying the sound! These were all dated 1990 on the rear panel. I got my adaptors for the Euro DIN for the speakers, and a small DAC to stream into the receiver section.
My neighbor called me the other day, said she found something. I went over, and low and behold, she found the CD player !! So, now, I have the original to the set, and a working backup! With that, the final quest is to find the matching turntable for the 6500 series (in BLACK) and it is NOT to be found anywhere ! Perhaps you could let me know if you have seen one in your 'travels' ? Thanks for much !

The Beolab 4000 is Bang & Olufsen's most underappreciated active speaker. The sound is really crisp and rich, and the new wood aesthetic makes it more more appealing. One of the weak points on the Beolab 4000 (MK1) have is the isolation materiale Bang & Olufsen had used. The Beolab 4000's isolation material burns on the amplifier board's surface as the amplifier board warms up, causing damage to the board. If you have a Beolab 4000 I will highly recommend to clean out the old isolation material before your Beolab 4000 gets damage.

I recently bought a pair of 6000's, and i have them connected to the Pre-Outputs on a Yamaha WXC-50. I can't really figure out if whether it would be best to buy a Beolab 11 or a non B&O subwoofer to add to the system. It just seems rather complicated with the Beolab 11.

I used to sell Audio in the late 70's into the early 80's.. We had a great buying option to be able to buy a pair of most brands speakers for 50% of their suggested retail. I bought a pair of the M75 monitor speakers which came with the stands. Those speakers were amazing back then, open and airy , sweet top end and excellent mid bass kick and some decent lower end frequency response if driven by good power. At that time I had a Hafler DH 500 powering them. At the Time the store I worked for carried B&W, Kef. ADS and B&O speakers .. Those stands played a great role in raising the speakers and allowing you to tilt them back which increased their sound stage. I got a lot of compliments from friends. Man, I wish that I had held on to them thinking back on those speakers. Kudos Andrew for sharing.. Definitely under rated loudspeakers in their day.

Funny story. My one piece of B&O equipment is a Beogram 2000 turntable from the mid 90's. It's in fantastic physical condition but has some distortion issues and needs some TLC. I have no idea what's wrong with it (cartridge, cables, caps?). I thought about putting it into the shop but instead I started watching turntable reviews (including yours of course!). Yesterday I literally ordered myself a brand new Fluance RT85 to replace the B&O. The RT85 should be here in a few weeks. But if you have any interest in adding a vintage B&O turntable to your collection, please let me know. I'm in North Austin over near Great Hills:) Take care, and Happy New Year!

I think it’s a cool idea. Older B&O gear is kinda like older Porsches, good design, engineering and also different from the crowd. Definite cool factor. And update an older speaker like that gives you a nostalgic piece that’s unique. I’ve been wanting to paint my woofers in some way because they are a little monotone to me. Not B&O but speakers I’ve had almost 20 years. I’ve considered a bunch of ways to just change the look a little.

This was so great. I loved the dichotomy between Kristi’s practical view and Andrew’s “tinker/nostalgic” view. As someone that purchased a pair of mid 80’s Beovox S45s this summer for $60 because they looked so cool and then spent $140 on stands and $40 on a re-foaming kit, I totally get it. Not the least bit practical. And then replaced a new pair of Emotiva B1+ with them. But they have blown me away with how amazing they sound and look. Every time I see them or hear them I smile and the journey to get there was part of the fun. I know these vintage videos are tough because they aren’t as relatable as reviewing available (or theoretically available products) but from a purely entertainment standpoint, please continue to mix these in (just like the Marantz). B&O support ways of keeping their old speakers up to date. Vintage B&O CX50 and CX100 speaker are passive, but can be given a make over with the Beocreate 4 Channel Amplifier from HiFiBerry paired with a Raspberry Pi 3 A+. Streaming, Bluetooth and Wireless connections. The board is expensive and you also need a power supply, mounting frame, a RPi and the SD card so perhaps makes more sense if you already own the speakers tucked away in a back room or garage. I don't think the board is a stereo solution. The four channels connect directly to the two woofers and single tweeter (CX100 is a three way speaker). The CX50 uses one woofer and one tweeter output.
The repair to the foam of the two bass units is straightforward and a number of instructional videos on CZcams to help.
I have a pair of CX100 that I re-foamed. They are hooked up to a Beocenter 9000. I have been listening to the FM radio and then got out some old cassettes and CDs. The quality is surprising and the interface is futuristic by today's standard yet the unit dates from 1986. Amazing just how good the Dolby HX Pro and Dolby C are and even pre-recorded tapes are much better than I remembered. Just like you found on the Level there is something about the controls on the unit making you want to use the interface on the unit and not the remote control.
On connectivity a Uher 4400 Report Monitor simply plugged that into the back of the Beocenter. Connecting phone, portable devices with 3.5 mm plugs and the computer just for getting a cheap lead or soldering one up.
The Beocenter 9000 powers two sets of speakers and has pre-amp output for BeoLab 6000 and Beolab 8000. Only phono (turntable) and two external inputs (Tape 2 and AUX) but that allows a DAC / streamer, DVD, TV and computer to be connected.
Like Bose, B&O have a reputation for over expensive products for the sound quality. Style and convenience does cost but on the second hand market there are numerous bargains to be had that would cost much more to achieve the same sound quality elsewhere. Damaged foam CX50 and CX100 means for very little costs of a kit to put new foams on you get great speakers for very little.

They are very well made indeed , I also use cables from Sounds Heavenly too , great products 👍 .
Andrew I use the Bang and Olufsen Core on a different system to my 8000s
The system is one pair of Beolab 3 , Beosound Overture, Beosound 2 in between the Beolab 3s and a Beolab 11 sub woofer . The Beosound 2 plays independently but in tandem. The Beolab 3 s are connected to the Beolab 11 subwoofer which is connected to the core which is connected to the Beosound Overure .
Andrew it works perfectly ok I can’t use the EQ Wheel on the core however do have EQ settings on the app via the core and of course EQ options on the Beosound Overure music system.
The bass is excellent , the Beosound 2 emits a 360 degree treble , the Beolab 3 (I think this speaker may of been the one you were thinking of ?) emits 180 treble it’s a lovely little system all three speakers sit on tall poles as does the Overture. Bang and Olufsen are a unique brand they sound as good as they look it’s terrific Hi Fi
And my experience with Sounds Heavenly cables is 10 out of 10
And that also goes for the guys at Prestige Creations another 10 out of 10 .
I find the EQ options on the core enough tbh
