BMW was the first car maker in the world to offer side head protecting airbags in 1997. The HPS - Head Protection System was standard in the 1998 7-series and 5-series.
you will have to get an OBD scanner or just take it to the closest NAPA or Oreilly's , best would be a BMW dealer and get it checked, it can be a serious problem or it can be something small just like as a gas cap loosen
This car is in James Bond 007 and The Transporter. E38 maybe the best 7 series ever. But I prefer E23 and E32. E23 is also in the mouvie "Nothing But Trouble".

I just want THE CAR. Is it possible? Is it feasible? I dont even need the electronics. Its all garbage. I dont care if the speedometer is a volt meter. I just want the car.
Prince Chawmin Yes you can put LT1 if you won't to....But if you ever buy one just drive with original engine till that engine die and just swap with LT1
Just swap out the timing chain guides + coolant system on an '01 740, if you want manual find a Getrag 420G trans from an e39 540i. If that doesn't work for you I've seen some LS swaps, but the VANOS on '99+ models is amazing.

I have two of these - 98' iL pre-facelift and one of the latest Jul 31 01' iL post-facelift which I believe is among the latest batches ever produced.
I've always preferred the look of the front of the pre-facelift, but I haven't seen them side by side in person. Which do you prefer?
