@David Hamel fair enough. I don't personally attribute cleanliness with professionalism though. Just me. For example Pepboys shops are clean but the kids they hire know nothing as opposed to smaller run places that live and breathe history of certain vehicles may not have the time to dust the shelves. I see what you guys are saying though, it's a nice shop for sure 👍

I loved my 2001 740i, got it with 74k miles and set about to replace everything that needed it. Complete suspension, guibo, center driveshaft bearing, entire cooling system after a catastrophic failure, stereo with factory widescreen NAV, grill and more I am sure I am forgetting. If you are unable to work on them yourself and only write checks for others to work on them, they are a horrible car. If you can turn your own wrenches they are the easiest car in the world to work on. Everything is assembled logically and it is the smoothest car for traveling you can own. I only sold mine because we moved out to the country and I knew the dirt roads would destroy it after two years and thousands of dollars to restore it.

I owned the 5 series version of this car for 11 years. Same spec same engine model E39 which in my opinion is the nicest 5 series ever produced. It was a 2000 year and in all those years it only required a MAF. It was serviced every year using quality parts and the best oil I could find. Couple of pixels died during my ownership but easy fix in the UK. Eventually I was offered an amazing price for the car and I really struggled on wether to sell it. Turns out I wish that I had kept it as the 540i M Tech Sport is getting difficult to find in good condition. A quick check of the resources available in the UK shows the car fully legal and still being used. I put 70 Thousand miles of the car with regular maintenance and replacing consumables like brakes etc. Great car if looked after properly

I would replace buy with lease, and only if you can bury most of it in business expenses. Buy one and you'll suffer horrific depreciation & have to deal with time lost if it has to go back for warranty issues. Otherwise I totally agree, they are disposable commodities, like pretty much every mid-tier luxury car is these days, especially the German ones. This is of course totally on purpose to drive new car sales, and of course, they do not give one shit about the amount of pollution and landfill they are generating, as long as the cash keeps rolling in - sure you can recycle the steel, aluminium and copper, but most of the hard plastics & electronics in them are destined for landfill, and there are a LOT of hard plastics and electronics. Green my arse.

Speaking personally, I own and currently run an E36 M3 and E39 M5 and both have been excellent cars. I bought them both used, from a previous owner that I trusted and admired with confidence that they took care of these vehicles since new. What have I owned?
My first car was an E36 that I drove until it died, then an E60 I intend to also drive until it dies. No sale! 😂
They both adhere to the rules of BMW happiness:
      - Thou shalt not have a V engine
      - Thou shalt not have less than five or more than seven cylinders
      - Thou shalt not have forced induction
Keep those in mind, and you avoid 90% of the problems 😂
(My E36 was also blessed with no vanos, it had the M50 engine).

One of my favorite pieces of car-related TV is Tom Ford's reaction to the Bangle-era 7 series on _Fifth Gear_ back in 2002. "The bloke that designed it, Chris Bangle, says that it communicates 'dynamism, performance, and on-the-road presence.' No, Chris, it doesn't. It communicates fatness, weirdness, and what-the-HELL-is-thatness. Y'see, there's a problem with this bit of the boot here. It might contribute to great aerodynamic efficiency, but it looks like it was built by gibbons with access to welding equipment."

I myself had two e39 540s and when the e60 545i I wasn’t the big of a fan but I ended up loving it and had two e60 550s with sport package. The tech and feeling of the e60 was on a whole different level. My 07 550i had a sticker of $80k. Night vision camera and HUD just to name a few was crazy. I think the design aged really well too,I wouldn’t mind driving an e60 even today.

Yes the abs module and pump has failed (didn't fix yet). Replaced a window regulator, a camshaft and wheel speed sensor, as well as a few control arms and other regular maintenance. But after that, it has been extremely reliable. Probably the most reliable vehicle I've owned.... which seems odd. But I LOVE this thing. The ride is smooth, performance great, and the AC still works! LOL! Best car I've ever owned and I'll cry like a baby if I ever have to get rid of it. Every time I watch a Hoovie video on BMWs, I feel like the luckiest man alive. I've owned two 3-series for the last 18 years, a '99 323i and '02 M3. Aside from two recalls and new tires, neither has needed a mechanic in ~150k miles. I've done consumables - fluids and brakes, water pump on the 323, rear subframe bushings on the M3 (most involved repair), and ignition coils/plugs around 110k miles - that was the only time I've seen the check engine light in 13 years and 50k miles of M3 ownership. Everything was cheap to replace myself. Maybe the e46 is the high watermark for BMW because nothing about my experience would make me think BMWs are junk.
I do admit I have no desire to own a newer one.

My '04 E46 320i also has zero issues. From what I can tell is that old BMW's suffer from extreme climates/weather. Germany and most of Europe have very moderate temperatures. They rust like crazy in salty sea weather. And the plastics (o so much plastic) become brittle and break after long cold winters and hot summer days.

I'm sorry but I disagree a bit. I got a 12-year-old Toyota with 329,000 miles. still rolling on all the original suspension other than the struts which I just changed.
The engine doesn't leak a drop, the transmission doesn't leak a drop, I changed the water pump which started leaking at 285,000 mi.
I literally put more miles on my Toyota in the last 2 years than this thing has had on it in 20.
I'm sorry but these German cars seem to be absolute crap.
I do agree with him that that particular generation of seven series is one of the best looking ever made. But you better have deep pockets if you ever want to own one used.
