“Prisoners of the Snow,” featuring new interviews with survivors of the plane that crashed into the Andes mountains in 1972, airs May 22 on ABC and next day on Hulu.
It’s crazy to believe that people judge them for cannibalism to survive but don’t bat an eye for someone getting another person’s organ transplanted to survive
@@angyliv8040 A being consuming its own species, as a human consuming another human. They used others body/body parts to survive, an organ recipient uses others body parts to survive, hope this helps
The judging on these guys cannibalism is pretty disgraceful I agree but this has Got to be one of the worst comparisons ive ever seen tbh. Not even comparable
I was 12 years old, I remember this story and followed it. I have read the book two times in English and two times in Spanish. They’re story is one I’ll never forget.
This is one of the most amazing and unbelievable stories of survival. Cannibalism of the already deceased is no worse or different than eating steak or pork. It’s survival and it’s necessary. Better to eat the dead and let some survive than let all die.
This documentary was good hearing from the survivors and their family members, but lost interest every time the adventure and two mountaineers told the survivor’s story. What does an adventurer do? Why did the producers put them in the show? The survivors are there and speak english. The extra people added nothing and were in the show too often.
I believe these guys ran into a lot of criticism once people found out they ate the Flesh of their friends. I believe it was the pope Who said they did what they had to do to survive then people let that go. Just seems really strange that that is all people knew these guys for not surviving for 2 months in the Andes Mountains and having to climb mountains with absolutely no safety equipment it was just the fact that they ate the Flesh of their friends that is all people saw.
¿¿¿ really ... ??? i wasn't aware of that ... i know that was on HULU but i never imagine that will came to NETFLIX also... i willcheck if it's available here in argentina...
The focus here shouldn’t be the needed cannibalism, should be the will to survive. I mean Christian’s are taught to eat n drink the the body n blood 🩸 of Christ at communion 👀
But are they telling the real story?! Nobody knows the real truth but these 16 people! Is there a possibility that when all deadbodies finished and only bones left that they srarted killing their friends choosing the weakest or the most sick ones! I don't know but I'm sure that they didn't tell THR whole truth!
This tragic historical event has been warped by Hollywood writers into a complete fairy-tale. I read the books and watched the movies - but then I read the official report(s) and a much different version of events unfolds. After examining the location of the crash, the survivors were well within walking distance of hot spring resort (Hotel Termas del Sosneado) that had heat, food and telephone communication. The resort had closed for the winter, but was not abandoned. That’s the reason why the rescue planes did not fly close to them. If any one of the survivors had simply walked a mile - they would have visually seen the resort located on the side of the mountain. I realize these kids had no survival training - but if you are in a situation like this (I realize hindsight is 20/20) you get four of the strongest survivors - each takes a different direction - and you walk one mile (or 30 minutes) - and then you report back what you saw. This did not happen. In the end only a few passengers survived - not because of brilliant leadership - but because they resorted to eating their dead friends. That’s the only reason. When the survivors realized how close they actually were to safety and rescue - they became very despondent and depressed. Their news conference was subdued and their actions were explained through a spokesman. They did not talk about this tragic event for years - until glamorized books and Hollywood movies made heroes out of them.
if they only knew where they crashed ... they had no idea where they are , and where to go , they were not lucky enough to go just in the direction of the hotel .. the rescue planes stopped the search because they said there has been several crashes like that in the Andes and no one survived . Hard to make good decisions when in hunger , pain , cold ...considering all that they did survive because brilliant leadership ...
They were all from priviledged and higher class backgrounds. Most of them were coddled and had nannies growing up. With that in mind it's not hard to know why they didn't know what to do in that situation.
@@SourceHadesI don’t think it’s fair to tell them what they could have done in that situation. No one knows what they’ll ACTUALLY do when they’re put in a position like that. There’s lots they could’ve done. But they were scared and hungry and cold and dying. They didn’t know where they were or what to do.

Only some small pieces the fuselage was burn and cut down so it wouldn't confuse rescue teams if another crash happens in that area.

This story is mesage from God to present time. Amazing story.
That reminds me of Alive (1993). It's based on a true story from Touchstone Pictures and Paramount Pictures.
