I was stationed in Holy Loch, Scotland in 70-71 in the Navy aboard the USS Canopus As 34. Everyday i had off of my duties i took off for Dunoon or several other places to listen to the bagpipes and watch the men march. Absolutely loved my time over there. Sure would like to visit there again. Wonderful people.

I believe its called Camaraderie, the feeling of being attached by a non-blood connection to something eternal and far greater than you as an individual (your Regiments multi Century old continuous history perhaps) to which you will remain long after you have passed away. These lads here can trace their origins to 1633 AD as "The Royal Scots" Regiment and whilst they don't talk about it they are aware of their Regimental history, hence when recruitment is very competitive with other careers, they can successfully attract the most "unlikely Scots" into their ranks from Commonwealth Nations who wish at a personal level to become part of that Immortality. Interesting comment?? These "native" Scotsmen are probably from Commonwealth Nations where they have as their "birthright" the right to apply to join the British Armed Forces. You will also see large numbers of South Sea Islanders (mainly from Fiji) in the British Armed forces. FYO, the two Highlanders in the front of this video are probably from East or West African Commonwealth Nations.

I for one look back and see a well fought Germany who would have won the war if not for there mistake in Russia and the yanks. We brits were on our knees during the war.
