When i was deployed to Iraq august 2006 - february 2007 with the Royal Danish Army, PzGrn, JDR i had the honour of serving along the finest British troops; MECHINF, Marine and your pilots.
I vividly remember each conversation i had with your Ladies and Gentlemen, Private or officer, they where all very pleasent to be around.
We started in the danish camp Danevang at Shaiba Logistic Base where we where under British command, for a brief time we had a tent of British soldiers in our camp.
I clearly remember the first watch i had, where my buddy and i couldn figure out how to turn the Union Jack, we guessed that neither could anyone else so we raised it as unpacked.
    But oh my.....
Before the Union Jack was at the top we heard someone really, REALLY angry come running up to us, it was a British sergeant if i remember correctly (Never been so scared in my life so forgive me my memoryhole :-D) that in a VERY CLEAR and UNMISTAKENLY tone told us that was NOT the correct way.
When he calmed down he noticed that we where Danish soldiers, and indirectly, but yet politely apologised for his.... entrance... (He did not apologise per se, but as a soldier you know what he meant).
From that day on, 16 years later, im still able to tell how the Union Jack should be raised.
But for some reason the Scottish flag have a very warm and special place in my heart, for some reason that flag, no matter how simple it is visually, it contains so many memories and most important, values, values that you cant describe, values that you respect, no matter what, values you remember, values you life by.

And the Scottish marching bands are the very best...The Scots are the backbone of the British SF military...if we as a collective go our separate ways, something very special will be lost forever. It’s good to see some traditions still hold strong just like the people of scotland we’re kind polite and easy going but just like our accent we maybe a little hard to understand at times but we are very well spoken and honest we say what’s on our minds just like the cold scottish weather our temperament is the same what say might be harsh but that’s just how we are we don’t mean bad by it. hearing the bagpipes soundings around the streets this makes me so proud to be scottish and to live in edinburgh born and raised all the stuff going on around the city the modernisation and development this helps take your mind of it all.
