- Together with @TravellingwithRussell we made a tour around different shops to show what is the situation with businesses inside Russia now and what the actual effect of sanctions is.
We do understand, that there are many people nowadays unfortunately living under poor conditions, and kindly ask you to see this tour as nothing but just an overview of what is happening here.

Hi, Great and informative video as allways. Thanks.
How is the situation in the book stores?
My Russian students told me, that it was difficult to get German literature - even before "the situation". Has it become worse?
@@magicGerman thanks for the question, but, sorry, don’t know the answer yet. If I want to read smth I find it online

Hello Zangieff & Russel
Nice collaboration
Thank you guys
Merci 😊
Great video Zangieff! Nice to see you and Russell doing a collaboration. As you mentioned here in the U.S. the foot traffic in malls has declined significantly. It is so much easier just to order things online and have them delivered to your house. I personally don’t shop at malls anymore and really the only shopping I do is for groceries. Take care and have a great weekend.
Lisa, I am right there with you.
Thanks 😊

How wonderful to see y'all together!
Thanks for this video. In our area in the US, prices are still very high.
Thanks 😊
Malls in the US do not have grocery stores attached to them. That’s a huge difference in the business model. Plus 95% of them do not have family activities like that indoor playground.
Interesting, thanks for sharing
well malls in canada do.
There's the Mall of America in Minnesota that has an amusement park inside, roller coaster and all
Well europe has a differently made malls
The mall down the street from me in PA, has a grocery store.
Excellent job guys. Best of luck to both of you.

Great video! Thank you for this awesome grocery shop tour. Thank you very much

Privyet! My husband and I visited Russia 3 times in 2007 while we were adopting our son. We flew into Moscow all 3 times then drove to Smolensk. We really enjoyed spending time in both cities and getting to know the people there. I was fascinated with the history and architecture throughout Moscow and met some wonderful people who we still consider friends.
I fell in love with Smolensk which is where our son was born and lived in an infants home until we finally got to bring him back to the US with us forever. The city and, especially, the people of Smolensk will always hold a special place in our hearts for the kindness and help they showed us whenever we are there.
Our son is now 16 (adopted 1 week after his 1st birthday) and we always planned to bring him to Russia so he can see his homeland. Unfortunately, we are holding off on that trip until the relations between our countries improve and Russia isn’t involved in a military conflict. Although our son is a US citizen, Russia still considers him to also be a citizen of Russia, as well. While unlikely, I dread the thought of Russia expecting him to serve his military service there. Parents have bizarre fears and that is one of mine.
I pray for the day when peace returns to your region and our countries are back to friendly relations so we can all return and explore our son’s homeland together. We still laugh at our many stories of being confused Americans in a strange new land, misunderstanding the language and signs, shopping for essentials in you malls and so much more.
Thanks for your videos!
Hi Zangieff,
Thank you.
Hilarious great to see Russell with you.
Very interesting to see the centre looking quite normal and plenty of citizens shopping.
Excellent post's
Thanks:)
Gotta love how the inside IKEA sign is still lit up. Probably all the signs along that row are on the same circuit. Nice malls. I live in the USA, but I'm rural. Shopping malls that size are just overwhelming to me, personally, although I do think they are very nice. Both of your malls, and the supermarkets looked well stocked. I'm glad! 💖

I really enjoy your channel. Your grocery store shelves are better stocked than my local grocery store; we have a lot of products that are difficult to find right now. I will subscribe to Russell's channel, as well! Keep the great videos coming. God bless you both! 🙏
Indoor shopping malls have been loosing popularity in the US for over a decade. Strip malls (possibly connected individual stores with smaller parking lots facing a street or road) have been displacing them. There is even a "shopping center" in this city which consists of a large building with a lot of stores facing a large parking lot and a few isolated buildings. No inside common space. Basically, the victory of car culture. Also, a lot of stores are no longer stocking various items, but are instead offering them via their online order system. In such cases, you can either pick them up at a local store or have them delivered. As my doorbell doesn't work, I live alone, and people have been stealing packages from porches in this city, I have my orders shipped to a "private post office" where the staff signs off on deliveries.
In Russia, most people travel by public transport. Maybe that's why it's different with us)
Once again, thank you so very much for doing the videos!
We do have a ton of mega shopping malls here in the States.... especially the higher end ones.
Yes, it's true we do a lot of shoppings online but the malls are still packed on the weekends.
P.S.
I also left a comment on one of your previous clips about the flea market
I live in Lexington, Kentucky, population over 300,000, and we used to have 3 big malls. Now we have only one mall, but it is very nice and very busy.
I really enjoy your videos. you have a pleasant personality and a good voice for this
Hope everything is going well with you always love watching your videos live in Santa Monica California and been to Moscow Russia at least seven times in my lifetime
Wow that’s dedication!😂👍
Thanks so much for this video my friend. All the best
I think he might be the next canon fodder.....
Where I live in SoCal, the mall I used to visit I haven't been to in years. Most of the department stores like Sears (now bankrupt), Macy's and JC Penny are long gone. A 24-Hour Fitness gym and a movie theater occupy the places of the old department stores. That seems to be the case for many malls in SoCal. Last month before Halloween, there was an annual meet-up of movie fans at the mall near Los Angeles where the first Back To The Future movie was filmed. That mall now is a barren and depressing place.
The Moscow malls in this video look like American malls in the '90s and '00s - full of stores and lots of people! I miss malls, but I got tired of cell phone salesman heckling me (this was the '00s). It was bad, like a Middle Eastern bazaar. Perhaps the biggest reason malls declined in America were businesses like Amazon and Wal-Mart. As a result, strip malls have become more popular and have overtaken indoor shopping malls here.
I just commented the same thing. Jcpenney, Jordan Marsh, Christmas Tree Shop, Filene's, Macy's, Sears, GONE, as soon as Target and Walmart moved in. Online shopping did them in too, here in Connecticut.
In Russia, most people live in cities in apartment buildings, so shopping centers are close to home for many. That's probably why they're not in decline yet.
In the US shopping malls used to be a center of gathering and socializing in past decades. They may still be so in outlying areas. But in cities, they are of declining interest. Many have closed. Covid accelerated this. People just prefer to shop and buy online enough to force many physical stores to close. There are 2 malls near me. They are no where near as crowded as it used to be 10 or 20 years ago. Plus the reality in most cities is that traffic is very heavy. NO ONE wants to drive for hours, fighting crowds, checking products from store to store when you can shop conveniently and quickly online at far more stores than you could physically and have everything delivered.
G'day from Australia Russell! Melbournian here, checking in.

Is talc powder sold there? Can't get talc powder in the states anymore, only corn starch powder (not recommended for jock itch)
There were two indoor shopping malls around where I live. One of them has been torn down and the other one is almost completely empty. People have gone back to preferring strip malls. I mostly shop online. (Reading, Pennsylvania, USA)
Hey, I'm from the same area and you are right. The malls are dying.
Greetings from Moscow. They have been buying products online for several years. Within a 5-minute walk from the house there are 4 shops with a large assortment of products. Sometimes I go for some minor products.
The area up around the pagoda is not too inviting. Always some sketchy folks hanging around up there. Trash everywhere etc.

Our malls are empty and some have been turned in to appartments. People seem to be shopping in small local shops for groceries but many use Amazon. We do and I find there are a lot of immigrants who deliver in private cars now. A lot of our friends ask us to shop for them at Amazon for things they can't get locally. Costco, the Canadian version a Walmart type store is always full of people shopping but they are there for bulk foods and whatever else they need for home and business. Costco sells everything and is generally the largest of all the individual stores. Personally, it could be years before I go into a shop larger a small grocery store. But I do grow and preserve most of our foods. I'm not a prepper but I am a homesteader.
Malls turned into apartments?? You mean they first destroyed the malls and then built the houses or just made apartments inside the actual shopping mall?..
@@Zangieff The malls sometimes have been turned into apartments with renovations. In others, old malls get torn down and replaced with whatever is needed. I know of a mall on Prince Edward Island, Canada that was turned into an apartment complex.
Globus is well supplied, apparently. In the US, we sort of are happy to do our shopping online and there are many options other than Amazon. I have not gone to a mall for a couple years and I see I don't buy so many unneccessary items and waste less time and gas.
В России тоже покупают онлайн как продукты питания , так и любые другие, это для ленивых! И потом в Москве бывает до 30 миллионов человек, включая туристов !!! Так что народ России любит ходить по магазинам!
I miss good ol christmas shopping in malls. I'm happy to knew that feeling we felt in the 80's and 90's ❤
Nice Russel. I stay! Good work!
in my area of Virginia, for the most part our local mall is abandoned, sad so many good memories there.
Malls in Japan have small daycares that you can drop off your kids with teachers and go shopping. They also have grocery stores in them too
In USAs it is all about COSTCO; people go to COSTCO; I just bought a BLACK FRIDAY 86 inch television for great discount, and COSTCO delivers ....actually tomorrow; shopping malls were a magical time I experienced as a child, but people do not really go there any more; it is all about home delivery

Hello from St Louis Missouri! Yes i think sadly shopping malls are not as popular as they used to be. Now many are run down with closing shops and many have been closed and torn down. Very sad to me, they were so much fun. I guess people are doing online shopping which i hate. Spasibo and paka. Take care. Prayers

Last 15yr, online has taken over malls and grocery shopping on line. Manassas mall near me is a very Dead mall . Many anchors stores have closed

I have been to my local mall in Clearwater, FLORIDA 5 times since covid started, when was that 2020?.......including last January 2022, to return something my husband bought on-line for Christmas and had home delivered for the kitchen that he never opened.
on Thursday there was a fire there, a security guard was killed, a hardware store burned down and there was something else torn off, the torogov center itself managed to be saved, but there is no construction, this Fire was moved to the 4th degree
Exciting n interesting
its so spacious and clean
Hopefully, I get a reply.
Is it easy to have a healthy diet in Russia, price wise? Like, are the fresh food are cheaper than processed ones?
Actually many products can be identified as healthy, also taking care not account the way they are cooked. Groats are definitely accessible, so no issues with some porridges or side dishes. Basic fruits and vegetables are accessible too, but that’s the question what’s basic for us and for somebody else. I mean cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic. Fancy avocados and mangoes hare of course not for the average everyday diet. Same can be said about meat, nuts, etc, all can be healthy, but different types may much vary in price.
It’s definitely possible for the majority of people here to have healthy diet, but I see time and effort as main issues, like me personally I could have spent less money on groceries and in parallel get a better diet than I have now.

yes, you are correct: here on YT is a channel retail archeology and he goes to all the dead malls: the reasons are many, that you would not be able to understand until you came here. I haven't gone to them for about 20 years, but there are hardcore mall rats, but not the general population as was always the case. An Australian mall firm Westfield bought our largest one a while ago, and mall real estate is being converted to other uses or with strip malls just demolished and then individual box stores in it's place.
We have WESTFIELD malls in Clearwater, FLORIDA too.
"The reasons are many, that you would not be able to understand until you came here". So true.
Hi, what kind of camera do you use?

Looks good, here in UK many of us cannot go to the shipping centre anymore we can't pay the energy bills.Meat is certainly unaffordable for most working class it gets reduced in price at most small super markets then binned. Sad state of affairs.Stay safe God Bless.
😒🌿☀
That mall looks a little more busy than the dead mall in my city of Omaha, NE. I would say about half the traffic of our most busy malls/lifestyle centers in Omaha, a mid sized midwestern city.
I see the comments about malls not doing well.
But here in Florida the mall is booming. It's an outside mall which you wouldn't think would be a good idea. But it's always packed. Nice video btw.. from Florida take care ..
Malls in Utah have been seeing a massive resurgence in popularity for the last 10 years or so.
We have shopping malls here as well, but they are not as huge. Some people love them, others not. To be honest, I am not a friend of huge stores, shopping malls etc. since many years, latest since Covid19. Too many people, too huge, too uncomfortable for me and often too expensive. So products like food I buy in smaller local shops near to my home, most other goods are ordered and delivered to my home. Hugs from Frankfurt@Main
Thanks for sharing 😊
Hi Zangieff!
I'm really enjoying your channel. I really love Russia and its culture and its people. I see that in many ways, Russia and Brazil are very similar. Russia is one of the few countries where I would like to work and live. I believe that the strongest barrier is the language (which, in particular, I find spectacular) but quite complicated for us Latin people. I'm not sure if I could communicate easily in the country using the English language, but I would love to live there.
Congratulations for the content of the videos, and the sincere greetings of this Brazilian citizen.

Yes, it also seems to me that Brazil and Russia are similar. Some entrepreneurs from Yekaterinburg, where I live, left for South America when it all started about a year ago. Although, it's bad for us(. I, like you, even had thoughts of living in Brazil))
That's a bit messed up to want to live in an invader country but whatever works for you dude
Be attentive to windows if you want to live in russia!
Most usa shopping malls are getting destroyed or converted into apartments. One mall near me is doing half mall and half apartments. I've been to mexico many times, and they still have sears open over there. It's cool to see that Russia has grocery stores connected to their malls.
Not only in Russia do they have supply problems or the prices of most imported products have risen considerably, in America, which is a continent, several countries are experiencing the same phenomenon with the prices of various products.
Welcome to 2030 agenda🤷🏼♀️
Hello from U.S.A. 🇷🇺🤍💙♥️
Hi 👋
Most of the malls in Texas are still busy.
So from which engle the burning shoping centers looks better in your opinion ??
Food prices are really going up in the US. I don't see them coming down anytime soon.
Where I’m from in the states, we have one big mall but it does fairly well. Us Americans are typically lazy and would rather use Amazon or something. As far as prices go, they thought they’d hurt Russia with sanctions but it’s actually really screwed the American people.
Correct about Amazon taking over. Malls in California aren't as popular anymore. We can be outside all year so no need to go to malls to have somewhere warm to go in the winter.
That is a real nice mall. I have seen people may not have a big shopping list. I'm sure people are spending more smartly. Are they still drafting men for the military.
Cool video any new upcoming videos coming soon
Very good 🏆

Is it true that in Russia ice cubes bags, like a bag full of ice cubes for drinks, cannot be bought or found in supermarkets?
Most probably true. There would be very little if any demand for the stuff.

Jesus Christ . Why on earth will you want to buy that???? If you need, you can always make it at home
@@Zangieff Thank you. When I was there I couldn't find. Where I am from, it is common to be able to buy bags with ice if needed. Just interesting.

Malls aren't that popular anymore. I see more and more malls going under. My husband and I used to live in Pocatello, Idaho U.S.A. the mall there was pretty much a ghost town when we lived there. And here in Joplin, Missouri, the mall here is doing a little better. But more and more people are shopping online.
