  • In late 1966, Chevrolet released the muscle car that would change the world and set the standard for years to come. A young 25 year-old racer looking for a competitive edge in the NHRA class racing world was about to purchase a big block Chevelle before spotting the new race-ready 302 cubic inch four-speed machine. The gamble paid off resulting in the car and team going down in history.

Another “Most Excellent Interview!” I’m sorry Ben / Dave and I never got to race one another as we both were in D/S. They being too far away from Arizona or me being constantly in some sorta car prison for eternity. Would have been a great race and win, lose or draw, a highlight of my career in Stock Eliminator. I love those little 302’s and if I were to build another Stocker, surely they would be worthy of consideration. And that’s no easy combo! Any idea what the asking price is? Should be bought by the Peterson Museum.
    Keep those interview coming!

I remember these guys racing from back in the late 60’s. Ben is absolutely right when he brings up the L78 396’s in the ‘65 Chevelle. I’m sure his old 409 was now obsolete at that point. Believe it was called the Z11 package in the ‘65 Chevelle. ‘67 Camaro’s were their first year and still the best looking particularly this one in the Teal color. You should ask Ben what rpm he goes thru the traps at! I’ll bet he’s at 8000 or more.
