    The DeWALT small angle grinder DWE402 looks very similar to earlier models, but a lot of thought and improvements went into this 4-1/2" angle grinder. By redesigning and placing the air intake and dust ejection system, this unit runs cooler and last longer. That coupled with a higher amp motor, larger brushes and more copper in the motor makes this a serious grinder.

    Great grinder. I like the DWE43116 which can take 4-1/2, 5 and 6 in discs. I like the rat tails better then the barrel grips for longer periods of grinding for weld preparation.

    I've many grinders and find the 6" size the sweet spot for ability to run 6" thin kerf cutting wheels, but (to run cutting wheels ONLY so as not to overload the motors) I've swapped a 6" DeWalt guard onto their 4-1/2" cordless. (Guards are cheap and it's easy to remove the indexing nubs that don't match from the larger guard, I never run cutting disks without a guard!) I still accumulate used 4-1/2" grinders but a 6" can use their accessories, has more torque and takes more abuse. Larger grinders are too heavy and awkward for most work so my 9" mostly sits.

    no one really mentions that these things are huge ,,, just bought one and it makes the older de wilt grinders look small , and they were about twice the size of the bosch gws range
    also had to square up the ramp section on the guard adjuster to stop it from ratcheting.
    but ,,, they do run smooth , the soft start is great , the powers fantastic , and they are quite quiet too.

    milwaukee makes a similarly powered one for like $50 more but i love my dewalt, put as much pressure as you want and it still KICKS. bucked and punched me in the face/hood NUMEROUS times. which sucks but proves its powerful.

    Thank you i own one of this actually 2 the old one developed a play on the gearbox the spindle that drives the wheel aparenthly has a bearing because i can spin it and can hear the bearing runing dry and tryed to take it apart and couldn't because Dewalt make it that way so it couldn't be disasambled if you try hard you ruin it and on the exploded view of the parts it not even show that bearing so the only way to fix it would be buying a new one sort of like $ 50.00 so yes i like it but it would be nice if we could replace that bearing.

      We wouldn’t have to do stupid shit like this if they just gave us a damn spanner wrench. I had to buy a wrench on Amazon and took a zip tie and keep it on the cord. Taping a Allen wrench isn’t going to stay on the cable king and will fall off and get lost. Dewalt sucks just for that reason.

  • @1pcfred
    @1pcfred Před 9 lety +1

    I like the little old one better. Little angle grinders should be exactly that, little. If you want a big, powerful, angle grinder, then get a 7/9. Pretty much if you want to see what angle grinders can really be like, get a 7/9. The 4.5s have their place, but, well if you use a 7/9 you'll know what I mean. They're beasts!

    I just bought a 4011 and within 10 minutes the entire grinder was overheating to the point where I could not hold it with my bare hands and using a wire brush where the wires go outward from the center (not outward around the disk) made it vibrate after a few minutes so hard that you could not hold the handle at all unless you want your hand to go numb in about 15 seconds. Very disappointed. I bought it to remove paint from a patio and with the coarse wire brush I managed to remove about 10 feet of a 2x4 in about 10 minutes. at that rate, it'd take me another 4 hours of grinding but the thing would die in about 30 min if that heat is any indication. :( $60 for a toy that is dying in 90 degree heat after 10 minutes.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge Před 5 lety

      @@WorkshopAddict well, I assume your shop isn't 95 degrees like it was when I used mine. I mean, if I pressed down a little, the motor just slowed down a lot. I was not happy with it but then I had a wire brush on it that was like a hair brush, they came out from the middle instead of the edge of the disc so... I think I need a larger or better grinder and one of those brushes that spin at the edge. I'm trying to remove latex paint from cedar wood. I put ready strip on it and it just made it gummy so maybe that TOO played a part. I should have gone with a good grinder and good disc from the start. skip the stripper that half way worked and cost me another $25 AND 30 min to apply and tons of elbow to scrape it and I'm still not done. :( thanks for the vid!!!
