ABOUT BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" follows the exploits of hilarious Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his stoically ever-professional captain, Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), along with their diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD's 99th Precinct. In this final season of the series, Jake and the squad must try to balance their personal lives and their professional lives over the course of a very difficult year.
Rounding out the ensemble is Sgt. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumera), who has a passion for organization and a weakness for dork dancing; Lt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), a mountain of a man whose most powerful muscle is his sweetheart; Jake's best friend and human puppy dog, Det. Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio); and the incredibly secretive, tough-as-nails Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz). Also part of the Nine-Nine are veteran officers Det. Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Det. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker), whose only skill as police officers is their ability to make a passable pot of coffee.
Created by Emmy Award-winning writer/producers Dan Goor and Michael Schur, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" won the 2014 Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical (Samberg). I kind of like how Holt introduces his mom as "The Honorable Laverne Holt." I know most people probably read it as a joke about his overly-formal nature, but my personal head-canon is that he is just really, really proud of his mom and wants everyone to appreciate the magnitude of her and her accomplishments :)
Also, that's her title.
It can be both.
She's a judge, which is why she's addressed as "Your Honor" 0:45

I think a big part of it is she can tell how much Jake admires and respects her son. His very blatant affection for Holt is something I'd wager she finds quite endearing.

The "jam on" incident brought the professionalism into question, so he shifted to Jake instead.

I love how Jake has become so aware of the Holt family display of emotions that when he asks if they're hugging, Holt says in his "regular" tone of voice are you absurd? And his mom says in the workplace, again in her regular tone of voice. Then Jake says I saved the day, stop yelling at me. He knew that was said in a yell voice. 🤣

I'd like to see how Holt, his mother, and his emphatic loud sister all interact. Like maybe his sister becomes Quiet Serious Stoic as soon as their mother is there. Switching back and forth as their mother leaves and enters a room.

Well, atleast Captain Holt's mother knows to control her emotions in his workplace and addresses him appropriately, as "Captain" before taking their leave. And not like his philanderous son, who couldn't control his love one time, when husband Kevin showed at the precinct.

A small part but I always loved the three-way goodbye between Judge Holt, Captain Holt and Jake Peralta:

Jake Peralta: "Captain, Your Honour. Hey, this is fun. Let's do it again. Your Honour, Captain..."

I like the ending scene of this episode, it gives the exact vibe of Grandma, father and grandson, when Jake says stop yelling at me 😅
I love her. She’s one of the best if not the best family members of the squad.
Putting that energy out there - I wouldn't mind a show that focused on the Holt family. I loved the episode with his sister as well as his mother. It could feature cameos from the 99, but mostly I would just like it to focus on them. Even a limited series or a movie would be nice.
L. Scott Caldwell is underrated as well! But she's been one of my favorite character actresses since she did an episode of Lois and Clark back in 1993! Also loved her as Rose on Lost!

This explains everything, Holt’s personality is a carbon copy of that of his mother, total lack of emotion but speaks volumes as we weirdly know where their at even when not showing their feelings like the average person, truly brilliant acting.
I hate to disagree with the title, but Holt's mother isn't even the most underrated character in Holt's family. That honour belongs to Holt's sister

The B-Plot was Holt trying to make up some drama to get rid of his sister (Hurricane Debbie) until he finds out that she's dealing with a divorce and he makes a pillow fort in the Precinct to talk about it
