  • During their short tour of Europe in Autumn 1974 the All Blacks squeezed in this hastily arranged match with Wales. The match was played in midweek and was not a official international, despite both sides fielding full strength teams. So no caps were awarded and Wales were billed as a 'Welsh XV'. All Blacks captain Ian Kirkpatrick scored the game's only try as New Zealand ran out 12 -3 winners.

This match played mid-week had a bizarre status attached to it. It was officially a non-International match and Wales were called a Welsh 15 despite it being a full Welsh International team. The ABs who played were never awarded test caps for this match which they won 12-3.

2:50 For Kirkpatrick, this was possibly the most satisfying try of his career. The 1971/72 tour to Great Britain had not been a happy time for him - especially the Wales part of it.
Edit: I meant the 1972/73 Tour.

Even Gareth admitted that. Sid Going tended to get the better of him .

@@121zoso Sid Going is still the greatest half back to ever play the game. Could do things no other half could and was an absolute match winner. Cliff Morgan once said during a commentary after Sid scored against Ireland in 1973 in Dublin , ... " that is why they say , New Zealand is only half a team without Sid Going. "

all blacks robbed on 2 tries in a minute. Batty 100% penalty try and no way Williams was offside, Just look at the disbelief on his face
