Byrne did some really great DC/ Marvel crossovers. His Batman/ Captain America team-up was excellent.

The best part is the Joker and the Red Skull simultaneously trying (and failing) to poison each other...

The story I heard was that George Perez and John Byrne were sitting in Artist’s Alley a some unnamed convention when a fan came up and pitched the idea: Galactus eats Apocalypse. Perez and Byrne just stared at each other. They were professionals and should’ve came up with that idea along time ago. Anyway that’s the way I heard the late George Perez tell it

That was me. It wasn't a pitch. I wrote the story for Byrne when I was twelve in 1984 and was planning on presenting it to him at a convention later that year. Unfortunately, I got grounded at the last minute and wasn't able to attend. When I finally met him in 1994, I told him I had written him an epic story ten years earlier but couldn't make it to the convention. He asked me what the epic story was about? And I broke down the basic outline. I finished with "basically, Galactus tries to eat Apokalypse."
He complimented the idea (as did Perez) and having been validated by two legends, I continued on my merry way.
A few months later Byrne put a letter in Next Men announcing that his plan to do a Darkseid vs Galactus comic based on a an idea he got from a fan. He wanted to give me credit for the concept but didn't know my name, or how to contact me? When I finally got in touch with Byrne, he told me that George Perez convinced him to do the book on their way back from the convention. So big up to the late master, George Perez. As an aside, when I met them, I got the impression that Perez liked the idea more than Byrne. Still, I never thought it would be greenlit by both companies. Event projects rarely feature two villains as the lead characters.

Gotta just tell you guys how much your videos are appreciated. Been collecting/reading comics since 1977 and can't get enough of your stuff. My daughter just left for college and my amazing wife told me to go crazy with her room. Turning it into a dedicated comic book room and it will be so nice to get my collection (scattered in various closets, rooms, and hallways) into one place. Looking so forward to working in there this fall and winter with CK videos playing on the TV P.S. Have ya'll ever done a tour of your comic collections? Would love to see it!

I remember enjoying Byrne's art a lot on the Demon series he did, mostly because I liked the grimey inking going on (my memory of it at least). Hope you put it under the microscope some time!

This book was my "15 minutes," conceived when I was twelve, then produced ten years later. My version was way different, had way more characters, and was not nearly as awesome. In summary, if you dream of seeing your epic idea come to life in comic form you'd be hard pressed to find a more impressive talent to pull it off.

This book is exactly what I wish we saw more of in crossovers, villains vs villains. The hero/hero meet, fight, team up got old fast.

Cartoonist Kayfabe is the ONLY good channel in the comics community! Not surprising considering it's made up of 2 ACTUAL comic creators. If I have to hear one more thing about CGC or CBCS, or someone's cutting in line to buy a garbage book, or how much a book is worth instead of what the book is actually about, I'm going to burn all of my comics. The other folks in the community should be ashamed that the guy who created 'Red Room' is one half of the people holding down the only "safe space" in the community. That being said, thank you Cartoonist Kayfabe for doin what you do! Much love.
