As someone who was in a wedding that was filmed by a TLC show, I can confirm that everyone knew what they signed up for with this. So the moms and sons willingly came onto this together knowing what it was. I can't speak for all reality TV but this type of TLC stuff is basically guided improvisation

Honestly if I went on a MILF Island show and I found my mom among the women I was supposed to be like…dating- I’d have to change my entire life style after that. I feel like it’d make me realize how whack dating people my moms age is and if I was the mom and I saw my kid among the group of men I was supposed to be dating I’d have to realize how gross it is for me to be 50 seeking to date someone 30 years younger than me who is just barely able to drink alcohol legally.
