      Yes especially for refreshing quick and easy before work! I’m a frizzy mess by 10am I have to throw it up. But I can’t spend more then an hour including makeup, changing getting kiddo out the door with me. So realistically 30 mins max on my hair and I hate leaving with a crunch

    Every time I go for a haircut, the stylist does mistake #6 (the aggressive scrunching). It's so frustrating! Especially since I usually have to get my haircuts either on my work break or right before work. Then I'm left going to work with frizzy, undefined, and webbed hair. I don't feel super comfortable telling a stylist how to do their job because I don't want to offend them, but during my last cut, I did explain to her how I scrunch my hair after applying products. She still went in super aggressively. I definitely think hair stylists need to be better trained when it comes to dealing with wavy/curly hair because I know this is something a lot of wavies/curlies deal with when going to a salon.

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  Před 2 lety +16

      This is so true! I style my own hair after I get my haircut and my stylist is super understanding about how I just have a way I like to do my hair. I totally understand though how it can be awkward to say something to ask to style your own. I think it just depends on the stylist!

    • @florl.delgado4093
      @florl.delgado4093 Před 2 lety +6

      Girl, I hear ya. Like Gena said, depends on the stylist. I try to tell them that on MY hair, that won't work. But they just don't listen. Maybe it's a time "thing" too. The faster they finish with a client, on to the next = more money. 🤷‍♀️

    Thank you so much Gena! You touched on so many areas of frizz producers in our routines that NO ONE EVER talks about. Such valuable lessons of causes and cures. Your visual examples really drive it home. Your videos really show your compassion to the curly girls struggles and frustrations. I’ve learned SO MUCH from you and I’m 63! You are truly an Angel in The Curly Hair community in my opinion. 💕💕💕💕💕

  • @nspector
    @nspector Před 2 lety +2

    Wow....I need to learn more if I want my hair to look better. I stopped coloring my hair with COVID, so it's quite grey now, which I actually really like. It's such a relief not to be worrying about grey roots, and I truly like the color and don't think I look "older" as I feared for so long I would. But I feel curly grey hair can look even more sloppy than curly dark hair when it gets frizzy. So, I need to up my game a bit just to feel sharp, you know? I'm not going to be at your level, Gena, but that's OK. I just need to be happy with my hair myself, like you said. Thanks very much for this video and the others of yours I've watched tonight. I'm about to get in the shower and then try some of what you talked about here and HOPE that tomorrow morning, whatever I manage tonight, still looks decent as I am going to drive into NYC for Thanksgiving (about 90 miles from where I live) and I won't have time to fuss in the morning.

    After having no luck with the advanced climate control gels (I know, unpopular opinion!), I reluctantly tried that coil infusion good shaper gel and LOVED it! I've used it 3 or 4 times & have gotten excellent curl enhancement! I paired it with different products each time so I'd know for sure what that gel was doing for me, and every time my curls would be extra bouncy & more uniform. My right side is always a bit curlies than my left side, especially by day 3 and on, but this gel helped the left look just as curly as the right, with much less of a difference as days went on. I have fine, easily weighed down hair, so you're right, it should be fine for other fine curlies 💜💜💜

    My hair is mostly 2b, with a few 2c sections, and although yours is much "coilier" than mine, I still enjoy watching you because you're so pleasant and I can tell your tips come from real tried-and-true experience, not from reading some list or watching another content creator and regurgitating what they said. I am starting to get a lot more gray hair, and as you know, they are often wirier, so I will try the more deliberate "tucking in" of those strands. I have a Behairful brush that I adore, and a few others that should help. And, of course, I can use my fingers to coil those spots with more intent! Thank you for all these tips. Thanks for the video! I learned a lot! It's super hard finding a strong hold light weight gel, or mousse that would suit my fine hair... Especially low-glycerin or glycerin free... I don't mind aloe vera, a silicone or two is okay (I'm not strictly CGM), and I could always use more protein. My current leave in has some hold (HUGE cast), sometimes it works so well on its own, but my hair ends up stringy (I thought it was just me until I looked at how it looked in other people's hair and it's definitely intended). It's harder not living in the US because the (curly to be specific) hair product selection where I live is super limited :( But this one seems like everything I'm looking for! Once I run out of the gel I have I'll be sure to give it a try, along with a lighter/spray leave in

      @@florl.delgado4093 Sorry for the late reply! I use the Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner. It's not silicone-free, so not CG approved, but that's fine with me, I'm happy with how my hair looks. I felt it too heavy on my hair at first, but you only need a little bit and your hair should be wet enough! It works great on its own or with a gel on top, without cream! My hair naturally falls flat / stretches out at the roots by day 3 because its quite long, but it holds quite well. If I knew of a CG approved similar product, I'd name it. I'll have a look but if you don't mind silicones (or glycerin), it's my favorite.

    New growth; shorter layers; applying products right onto tangled, frizzy hair after washing. Instead brush gently or finger detangle hair first, then apply styling products; applying products to hair that is too dry. Instead try towel drying the roots with a hair towel, T-shirt, or microfiber towel first, then spritz water where needed so it's evenly wet; skipping leave-in or curl cream and only using a drying gel or mousse. Instead try using a curl cream or leave-in first for a moisturizing base layer; not using products that have film-forming ingredients and not enough hold or cast. Instead try looking for ingredients like aloe, flaxseed, marshmallow root, castor oil, honey; not evenly applying your styling products and leaving some strands not covered. Instead try combing products through for more even coverage, and use a brush to create clumps and ringlets; aggressive scrunching or scrunching wet hair with dry or sticky hands. Instead try gently scrunching with wet hands, using open palms, lifting the hair away from the scalp then scrunch to encourage root curls; not properly drying your hair while it's wet, or letting the humid or dry air outside get to it. Instead try diffusing which sets the gel cast right away and dries the hair faster preventing frizz; scrunching out the crunch or cast too soon, or separating clumps when the hair is damp within. Instead try waiting until hair is 100% dry and cooled off. Leave the gel cast in for longer-lasting frizz protection.

Thank you for them. so I have a question for you, I currently have hair keratin on my hair, don’t like to much the curls. I believe my hair is type 3b, what would be the best way to try to go back to my natural curly hair? My hair is also colored and I have fine hair, currently working on my hair not to get thinner or lose so much of it. What suggestions do you have? What products do you suggest? It’s been about 3-4 months from the last time I keratin my hair. Thanks in advance.

    I'm so curious on the hair repear vs the perfect hair care towel but can't find not 1 comparison. They're very diff as one is 100% Combed Cotton while the other is 100% Microfiber: 80% Polyester / 20% Polyamide-Nylon. Both are touted as super smooth, popular w/ curly/wavy hair and offer similar sizing w/ ties on the towels.

      Great suggestion! I haven't tried the Perfect Haircare Towel. I personally prefer combed cotton because it doesn't have any fibers, and it's flat. If you look closely at microfiber material, you can see tiny fibers that can grab onto strands and cause frizz. Just my opinion but I know many people love them!

She gave me 2 large and 2 smaller scrunching ones. The latter are v handy. If you ever get an opportunity would love a comparison! I brush style my hair & have found that I do t have much slip (I style before gel because I won’t have any slip at all if I do it after gel). I was wondering if this could be because I need more leave in/curl cream in my hair to make the slip? How do you know you have enough product without it feeling producty when dry? My hair is usually very wet when I style so it can’t be a lack of water. I just feel I’m probably causing more damage trying to style my hair than just leaving it alone & wearing it in a ponytail for a few days.
