I am still confused! 1a or 1b. Every hair stylist I can remember has always commented how baby fine, thin and super soft my hair is but has never ever said anything about my hair being oily in any way! I have had a few stylist get so frustrated when attempting to curl my hair. They get about halfway or so and you couldn’t tell they had done anything at all. The only way my hair will hold a curl long enough to make it out of the salon is by using extreme amounts of product (basically gluing my hair in place) which may last a few hours depending on the weather or perming it, both of which I hate. A damp/wet mop has more umf. Putting my hair in a ponytail is approximately the circumference of a dime. My roots dry super fast (in minutes) and takes longer to dry the further down ya go. I detest spending more than 5 minutes doing my hair!!! Everyday is the same, brush, ponytail, braid, pin then cover with a Buff to keep any hair from touching my face (that’s another entire can of tactile and sensory issues).

I'm definitely a mix of 1c-2b. When I cut my hair short, they're pretty much straight and quite smooth and silky. But as they grow, my waves tend to show a bit more on my mid sections and the ends look dryer.

You are probably one of my favourite hair CZcamsrs because ou are the first one to correctly explain straight hair and its relation to oiliness, which debunks the whole "don't wash for a week its unhealthy" myth. I fall under the 1b/1c type, because my hair can be frizzy at times and I have more bends. Its definitely extremely difficult to style, unless I use sticky mousse. Exhausting! thanks for the vid

I think my hair is between 1b and 1c and my hairstylist said it is normal scalp with normal scalp sebum production with mild sensitivity but my hair always feels so dry LOL (it snaps all the time although my hair is medium coarse hair type!) And definitely my hair got bends.
And most of the time hairdressers usually seems don't really like to handle my type of Asian hair LOL
1a hair is so blessed because literally this kind of hair rock any bobs or pixie bobs!
While my 1b/1c hair because of the weird bends, asymmetrical choppy long pixie-bob actually looks unexpectedly stunning on me! =O
I can't take symmetrical or super blunt chin length haircuts because I look so dumb and kind of nerdy people from poor rural area in the symmetrical hair LOL

I was born with type 1 thick hair. It was like silk. Glassy shiny 1A. Because it was so straight it looked thin although my hair was so dense! I could hold a perm for a week. A week!
Now I am turning 40. My hair is ling but damaged from dying and blow drying. Because of the dryness, it will have a bit more volume and a slight bend. Now it's closer to 1B or even 2A. Chlorine in the city water has changed my hair too. Growing up I had spring water and it made a huge difference.

Same here. I was born with type 1 straight hair like silk. Now I am hitting 40 soon and I am morphing into a type 2A. It is very obvious when I let my hair dry naturally. I googled and it seems hormonal changes cause hair to turn from straight to wavy.

Thanks! I think I am a 1A or 1B. Since young everyone thought I rebond my hair cause it is so straight. But yes, it is almost impossible to curl my hair without a perm at a salon. I can wear buns for 10hrs and my hair will be straight in 5mins. Even using curling iron, it goes flat real fast. I have to perm my hair to have curls but then it gets dry and hard to get the curls I wanted. Any tips on hair styling?
And also, does it mean that perming or rebonding your hair will change a hair type?

    Best explanation ever!
I'm leaning towards type 1B, but could be a mixture...i find my roots get oily extremely easily, and i tend to get fuzz from middle range of my hair. I wonder if having layers help keep it voluminised, cuz when my hair is all one length it's heavy and very quick to get messy/fuzzy. Grrr. Either way I always feel I need to bring a hairbrush with me wherever I go.

This explanation is so great and it explains so much of my life when dealing with my hair! I have type 1a hair, with my last pregnancy it changed to 1b or 1c in some places, but I think it’s shifting back again. 😂 Literally no stylists understand how to deal with my hair. It’s been so frustrating to have them tell me that if I just used enough of this or that product, I could get some body and movement into my hair. And then after their demonstration it just looks like a greasy, dirty, weighed down mess. 😅 This is really a great explanation and I wish more stylists understood the variety in hair types. Loved this!

    • @esra4404

i know this is late but from what i know, 2A is a more defined “s” shape aka a wave, if you have 1c when ur hair is dry but 2A when wet, you probably have a wave pattern - a lot of factors affect this such as heat damage, chemical damage, dryness and just overall your care towards your curl pattern. it’s all trial and error but just try a Wave routine or a curly girl hair method and see what works best! If your hair holds it’s shape dry as it does wet, you have 2A (or wavier) hair!
