    Hi, Gena. I have recently decided to embrace my curls. After 20+ years of blowing out my curls and flat ironing in addition to highlighting, you can imagine the damage I have caused. Unfortunately, I have to continue with the highlighting because I am going gray and am not ready to embrace it just yet. But I have made a commitment to not blowing out or flat ironing for at least a year. I have been watching your videos and you have definitely helped me with my transition. I have been using the Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk line but it seems I am either not using these products correctly or it’s just not right for my hair. I did recently purchase some of the L’Oréal Elvive Dream Lengths products. I got the no haircut cream, the Dream Length Curls shampoo and conditioner and the Non-Stop Dreamy Curls Leave-In Cream. I didn’t want to go crazy and purchase all their products because I didn’t know if I’d like them or not but I have to say that although I still haven’t achieved my goal results, I do like this line better. I have looked through your videos to see if you’ve done a review and tutorial on these products but I can’t find it. If you have, will you please reply with the link? And if you haven’t, would you consider testing these products and giving us a review? I would ever so grateful. Thank you for what you’re doing to help us curly girls! ❤️

    100% agree with your comments on the red Ouidad bottle versus the white one. I tried both and also found the regular formula did not provide enough hold. I was expecting the red bottle gel to be like those plasticky gels from the 90s, but as described it was the perfect balance of hold and flexibility so my curls could dry smoothly but not be dried out. Great reco!

  • @ChynnaBlue1
    @ChynnaBlue1 Před rokem +1

    YES! to all of this. Getting enough moisture was key for my chronically dry hair. I love Treluxe gel in the winter, but always use Ouidad ACC in the summer and humid weather.

  • @Ohbrady2003
    @Ohbrady2003 Před rokem +4

    I never had to use conditioner often until I started using Ouidad styling gel. It worked wonderfully initially, but my ghosh it dried out my hair after 6 months of using it. I've always allowed my hair to air dry and use the diffuser sparingly during the winter. Only medication I was on was for my thyroid, which I have been on for years. My curly hair specialist said the 6 month mark is usually when this happens if it does. I don't recommend this product. Maybe younger hair can handle it without damage, but I'm in 50's and have gray hair, so lol, my hair may not be as tolerant. I say keep your regiment simple, clean, and don't overwash your hair. Ouidad cost $50 per bottle. I didn't mind the cost since it worked amazingly, but I've gone back to a simple mousse, hairspray, and my hair is loving it! Before trying a new product, I highly recommend looking at the reviews of it first, good and bad. Talk to your stylist as well. Good luck to all you curly-haired beauties!

    I touch my hair all the time!!! From right after washing and styling til next wash! I will say that I have found that not only wearing a satin bonnet at night works but I work around food so I have to wear a hair net. Now, that prevents my hair from moving around and falling out. I put one of those on at night, then my satin bonnet and my hair is fabulous in the morning because it was double protected from moving around. Thank you for this series. I too have high porosity hair, very fine, medium density. My hair hates heat so I mostly air dry and kinky curly and uncle funkys daughter curl Stimulator work best for me.

    Well, I sure learned a Lot ! Thanks 🙏 We are having a heat wave in western Washington with temps in 90’s. This last wash day the air dried my hair very quickly. I did add water and diffused a little but my hair is so frizzy. This video came at a perfect time. I really understand much better though about the ingredients making a difference. Well done 👍😻🙏👏

    I am struggling with my hair. I don't like how curly hair requires you to wet it everyday. And I don't like using gel or mousse because it creates buildup. But I might try some of the products you mentioned to see if it works.

  • @loriobrien1246
    @loriobrien1246 Před rokem +2

    I have learned so much from you, but my hair and yours are polar opposites for frizz. I know my hair is in good condition, but it’s a combo of every type of hair (except straight) and extremely frizzy. The more liquid the gel, the less hold I get (I should say, almost no hold). I can’t really refresh at all because once the cast is gone, any touch to my hair, including air and especially water, and it’s a total frizz mess instantly and can’t be fixed without totally soaking it and re-gelling. I’m just super sensitive that way!

    I'm pretty sure my biggest problem is touching my hair too much. Right now during the high heat I have to have it up all the time. I get these frizzy spots right up front because of my glasses and from playing with the front too much.

  • @simplycurlyde

    I guess for me is #1, I don't think I'm using a hard hold gel or mousse or enough of, which leads to #2, the technique. I try to do it as quick & easy as possible, so I do upside down styling.

    Am i the only person that my hair lasts a good 5-6 days? I use cream and then anti humidity/uv/heat mousse and i brush style my hair for volume, diffuse it for even more volume, i dont put my hair in scrunchies buns or anything and i dont use a bonnet, just a satin pillow. My hair is low porosity 3b-3c medium length thin but thick. I dont refresh at all and i dont apply any products after what i applied at wash day because i feel like they weight down my hair/clog my scalp
    Edit: the cream i use is garniers macadamia hair food and the rilken curl styling mousse

    • @GenaMarie

      For what it's worth, I like the look of a little frizz in the summer. It looks "beachy" to me. I also associate frizz with volume. Before I knew I had wavy hair, I wouldn't have noticed if wavy/curly hair was frizzy. But it is really disappointing when we know our hair is not at its best.

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  Před rokem +1

      It's up to you! The longer you leave it, in the longer your curls will last. However most people prefer a softer look so they scrunch it out. I usually scrunch out about 90% of it unless I'm going to be outside in humidity.
