ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club - Auta a dopravní prostředky
...would listen to an entire video of this guy making turbo noises with his mouth.
CHOOOO CHOOO CHOOOOOOOOOOO.......................
pdbnc he has a great voice for narrating
hahaha
It’s hard to listen to his uptalk
Jeffrey Hathorn glad I’m not the only one. Everything else is awesome about these videos. But that just kills it for me. It’s hard to follow sentences and put together thoughts.
hey papa, can we get a 10min video of you just making car noises
I wish I could upvote this couple of times
LOUD NOISES!!!!
Make a human car sound version papa
I guess Im randomly asking but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Johnny Esteban Instablaster ;)
No one:
Papadakis: I don't like my nuts to look tampered with.
i know he's a no nonsense guy, but i still don't know how he didn't even try to make or add a little joke in there lol
@@J_spec6 he didn't have to lol
3:33
My wife checks mine to see if they have been tampered with.
Came here for this comment 😂
"I'm all alone in our race shop" Literally my dream life lol
NO KIDDING!!!! My thoughts exactly lol
Ceramic bearings in the turbo charger?
When that new papadakis drops you know it's gonna be a good day
I dont even know very much about engines or cars and Im hooked on this channel. So much clear information, and learning much more than I would otherwise.
@@patboudreau2739 i probably learned more off of one video then i would a whole years course lol
@@X1xRiGox3X no doubt!!!

3:36 Yeah same man...
🤣🤣🤣
i feel like an out-of-context compilation with this channel would be really funny
Papadakis for President 🗣
First executive action: everyone must drive stick shift
Is this a million dollar car?
He would take the country apart, down to its most intricate components, analyse it, make a plan, re-engineer it and rebuild it to at least 3 or 4 times its capacity while also making a live video if his country te-assembly process. Then he would tune it for optimum performance.
"This is a ceramic ball bearing cartridge, basically the highest end..." **Almost drops it**
Stefan is a not a mechanic, he's a master mechanic. He's like a mix of lecturer and mechanic. When he talks about it , he makes it sound so easy.Great video.
4:40 and 4:50
For those who want to listen the turbo sounds
Oh bro i wish there was a visible counter for how many times i just clicked those both 🤣🤣
Chu chu chu chu chu chu
.. pshhh pshhh pshhhh

Congratulations! It's a boy!
Steph is a living example of Einstein's "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."
I could listen to him explain things all day! Such succinct and precise language.
Also, love that you're using Nord-lock on your turbo hardware. The design is brilliant in its simplicity
@@brady5829 I started using Nord-Lock on Gensets used on railcars. It's is a brilliant design indeed!
Plot twist: he was actually building the turbo together and installing it, he just Played the video backwards to show us how a turbo works.
just imagine the pressing part...
@@estewarrior1 and the chuchuchu sound he made...
wtf

MORE OF THIS 111
So happy to see you getting more recognized by general public. Definitely my favorite youtube channel!
I remember when he only had like 20,000 subs how time flys!
Yes, that was not so long time ago. I just checked, they had around 5k when I got subscribed. That was mid 2018.
He's been a legend in the import world for around 20 years. I remember reading about Papadakis in Import Tuner and Super Street when I was in high school.
I don't know what is better? Your turbo noises or your face at the press. Thanks for vids please keep them coming.
Turbos are really an engineering masterpiece. Simplicity, reliability, precision, repeatability.
The videos are always on point! 11/10 You guys have that extra that no one else has!
This is better than network tv production value and content. It would be great if the videos were longer. I feel like a lot of ground is covered and video length could be milked out. Not so much this video, but the other builds and tear downs. I’m sure all of us would love that, but it is up to the content creator and I’m happy with whatever comes our way.
6:30 that smile genuinely made my day
I know I know we all here to learn but that's a good inside joke 🤣 03:35
I love that even his sponsored product is in the same format as the rest of his video. Stephan is very media savvy! No surprise he’s very successful in what he does.
5:54 I love how probably everybody knew, that this snapring will uncontrollably shoot out.
Papadakis: Best mechanic for your race car
Also Papadakis: Best at making youtube videos
What a madman literally takes the turbo right off his new build and tears the damn thing apart for us.
So they balance these turbos once both turbine wheels are together on the turbo. When you remove one of them and then reapply it, you will have to re-balance the turbo. Just like taking a car tire off a wheel and then rotating it some and putting it back on the same wheel with the same wheel weights but just a lot more strict since they're smaller and snip A LOT faster than a wheel/tire.
Apart from working as a data & race engineer on track during the weekends, I rebuild, tune and upgrade OEM and aftermarket turbos throughout the rest of the week. Awesome to do this kind of precision work.
You're face when the shaft popped out was that of pure relief
I’m loving the bov built into the compressor housing like that...efficient and beautiful!
I would 100% have a nut or washer left once I reassembled it. A usable turbo is something I’ve resisted the temptation to pull apart! Loving the build thus far.
My favorite commercial of all time!
Dude, You just shows us what no one else does. Every internet video about a Turbo is novice content for 5 years old, but this was awesome even for some one expirenced with performance cars
I would watch this guy take apart an electric toothbrush. He is such a meticulous craftsman and explains everything well
Just did this with my own Borg S369 over Easter! I've only ever had journal bearing turbos apart, so it's great to see the difference in the center bearing design. Thanks for doing this, Steph!
thanks for sharing Stephan, always look forward to your videos!
Gorgeous and spotless shop. A pleasure to watch.
This is the first time I've ever felt like I totally understand the full turbocharger system from end to end. Thank you Stephen, this was really interesting, clear and helpful.
OMG I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
This was by far the best video on how turbos work..
Standing ovations to the papadakis team.
I love how he actually disassembles the turbo and show all the small steps and plugs. Was wunderful
Love how you explain things so simple and easily. Your great Stephan!
And now the whole thing has to be balanced again 😂😂
🤦♂️
Literally just rebuilt my first t3/t4 turbo last week. Wasn't anywhere near as high end as the turbo you're running but to see the different hardware and design used on it is very interesting. Love the videos SP! Keep 'em coming! Your shop is above and beyond professional and innovative!
This channel is highly underrated, you’ll never get a mix of humbleness, humility, and humor with the added education in one channel 🤙🏽
Cool! Always expect some new information from papadakis!
Thanks Papa. I love your videos. Very inspirational. Your workshop looks amazing
Stephen, your vids are SO much fun. Thank you.
Another incredibly informative video - thanks PapadakisRacing
Thank you Stephan!! This videos are very calming for me. Love your work!
Stephan Papadakis you make some of the best automotive videos I've ever watched. I respect your attention to detail and your pursuit for knowledge. 👍
I love how your shop is so clean!
Turning on post notifications for this channel is the best decision I've made
Always appreciate your information delivery speed and depth. Food for the brain.
Anybody else already know how a turbocharger works but enjoy Stephan's way of explaning things ?
So food for thought. When removing or installing compressor wheel nut, the best tool is a t-bar with the compressor facing up. With a t-bar you are less likely of tweaking the turbine shaft. To hold the turbine wheel, just clamp an appropriately sized socket in a vise. The the compressor facing upward and the turbine wheel locked into the vised socket, remove the compressor nut with two hands on the t-bar.
Little trick for extracting the turbine wheel shaft is to flip the turbo, exhaust wheel facing up, and carefully pop the shaft ,pointing down, against a wood table. That will prevent thread damage.
I loved watching the whole series of this build, your calmness and determination on tearing down and building the engine gave me the confidence to rebuild the engine for my bmw. I about finished it and im glad i did it.
Definitely need longer videos Paps. Love the content.
4:37 here before everyone starts screaming that that’s the sound of the compressor chopping the excess air built up, and not the compressor wheel stopping and starting.
He can't be right all the time.
Well, it does drastically lose speed doing that, so it is not all that wrong (could be considered correct)
But the choo choo noises are still bad for a race car though, right?
Yeah you're right, actual surge is from on-throttle situations, surge at closed-throttle is not true surge.
@@NikFowler For the turbo, specifically, as it creates a lot of extra stress on the turbine wheels
Engine tear downs are always great. BMW N54 and N55. Great content!
More videos like this please! Very insightful, love the little tips and tricks along the way. Keep them coming!
do like twin scroll, vband and geometry vein comparisons and applications. The housing ratios in general would be cool. A history from your experience about trubochargers and then improvements over the years would be awesome.
Damn the quality and the effort put into these videos are through the roof.
Just wanted to say i love your videos on all aspects of the build. Thank you for every thing you do
5:55 Nine inch nails - the hand that feeds
Caught that too!
One of the best channels on CZcams. No question
Your videos are great. Thank you for all the wonderful information you share
This is when you are in isolation....just take stuff apart because your bored. Forget watching TV lets take a big fat Turbo apart!!
I really, really enjoyed this video! Thank you so much for taking the time to disassemble this for us (and put it back together again)!
So awesome contents........loaded with so much information..thank you very much sir

Is always great to see your videos you can sense the passion you have for automotive stuff
Tanx Steph you've really been INSPIRING of having this Legacy of my own starting with taking apart engines and rebuilding it. Always very clean and orginized with everything that you do. Consider myself quite lucky to have discoverd this channel!
I know damn well how a turbo works but I'd listen to Stephan explain it again all day long.
Clean, simple, no bullshit. Best gear head channel
Clean work , and garage
Papadakis! Loving this content, keep it up
Glad your still making videos!!
Love your vids making stuff easy to understand 👍
This community is probably the best one, I bet no other youtuber have community nice like this. I would be really fun to make an event or meet with all of us.
Awesome content! I truly enjoy watching!
This channel is pure gold.
Great video Stephen.
The quality of these build videos are impressive
Uncle Stephan, your videos have taught me so much. You're a really good teacher, keep up the great videos.
Your channel deserves much more recognition Mr.Papa.
the quality of these videos are too good!
this man is also a bluetooth speaker pro . giving us pro portable speaker pro tips ... big poppa we love you . learnt alot from you videos with positive results
Another new video and another new knowledge from Steph Papadakis. I just recently know that the "chu chu chu" sound is comp. surge. I think that is a blow off valve
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos you really are a wealth of knowledge
As always great video, thanks for sharing all your nice work. Keep safe stay at home!
This is amazing content, I love how detailed you are. It allows car noobs like me to understand everything. Please make more!!!
I love how clean it all is! Dream garage
Love this shop time!! I totally get how a turbo works, but it is so entertaining to see you explain it!! Keep it up!
