The Yokohama Geolandar MT G003 Does It Conquer Off-Road or Run Flat?

  • This week I review the Yokohama Geolandar MT G003, and ask does it conquer off-road or run flat? The Geolandar MT G003 was created using Yokohama's Geo-Shield technology, making this tire strong with an intimidating demeanor. The mud and stone ejectors and optimized block to void ration make this tire have outstanding off-road grip and traction on wet and dry conditions.

The Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 is an AMAZING tyre. After two sets of Maxxis Bighorns M/T-762 285/75R16, I decided to purchase the BF Goodrich T/A KO2's in the same size, hoping that the agressive looks of the KO2 would satisfy my needs, but I was wrong. The tyres looked "small" on my 100 series Land Cruiser; they felt too narrow for my taste. I purchased them on Saturday and I just did not feel satisfied with my purchase, so I went to another distributer on Monday and bought a brand new set of Yokohama Geolandars M/T G003 and they look and feel FANTASTIC! I drive my 1999 100 series both on and off-road because I own several farms in Costa Rica. If you have the opportunity to get a hold of these tyres, go for it. You will not regret it. Take it from a man who owns LC 200's (running KO2's on 1 and KM3's on the other one) , Range Rovers (running Wrangler Duratracs) and a LR4 (running Maxxis Bravos), and I have put them all through hell. It is safe to say that Geolandars G003's are my new favourite tyres!

@@CampusautoCo Hello there, the tyres have been AMAZING thus far. The ride is much softer than the BF's and Maxxis' (35 PSI). They do not 'whistle' as much as other M/T tyres, basically no sound at all at high speeds and they are great on mud terrain. The best all round M/T tyres I have ever purchased. Thanks Matt! I have been goin crazy shopping tires for a while. Your videos have been my "go to" source for information every time I saw another tire I was curious about. I finally narrowed it down to the Hankook MT2 or this one. You did such great reviews and from them I have landed on the Geolandar G003. I have to admit it was your answer to the question asked below about choosing between the MT2 and the G003 that finally helped me decide! I am going with the Geolandar in a 295/70R17 with a 2.5 inch lift on my '15 JKU. I was looking at 35's and I do have a 3.73 gear with a HD Dana 44 rear axel but I decided I just do not want to open Pandora's Box on breaking driveshafts, U-joints, chewing up wheel bearings, and the host of other repairs that would come from running those 35's.

I currently have this tyre and has been awesome so far. Off road it’s fantastic I’ve never been bogged or had to use the winch even through bog holes some one has just driven through and torn up I’ve gotten through no dramas. The wear on the tyre is outstanding how ever if your wheel alignment gets knocked out of whack the tyre gets chewed up fast! I did a 20,000km lap around Australia with these towing a caravan was extremely heavy on the rear the tyres wore evenly and this was high heat of summer I was expecting them to be junk by the time I got home, I’ve rotated the tyres every 10,000km probably should of done them sooner but they have been fine the last 10,000km I have been lazy and not rotated them and that’s destroyed them they are to far gone to recover they need to be rotated... the fronts have a feathered and scollopped badly and now create crazy bad vibrations, humming and road noise. This is only due to my self not maintaining the tyres
I’ve got 50,000km on them now the rears are down to the tyre indicators the fronts have I’d say 15,000km left to go in them but they are bad now I will replace them this week. The terrains they don’t like is sand and super fine dust the only time I’ve been bogged is when driving in sand I’ve never had problems on my vehicle in sand before but only now with these tyres. The bull dust in Australia is bad and catches every tyre manufacturer out but these especially love to dig and in the mud that’s a positive on the dirt that’s a must it digs and bite in and gets good traction but sand and dust it digs deep and gets stuck
As far as the tyre goes they are an expensive tyre that’s why I got them to see what bang for buck I got and they were certainly good if you do off road driving. I’d definitely get another set but I’d put them on spare wheels and keep them for the trails as they are rather expensive and I’d rather not waste those good qualities driving to and from work

First off ... these are extremely durable and when new ... you just can’t beat them. That being said ... their age shows rapidly and I know I hear everybody say they last a long time. I disagree given I just got new tires after just under 30k on the Yokohamas. Loved them ... never got a flat once. Over time ... the tires got louder which is to be expected ... but what I didn’t expect is the challenge they were to keep balanced. I had them on my 18 4Runner and like he said ... one of the best looking tires on the market, but unless you plan on wheeling a ton ... I would do something else. Now running the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s and from day one they are are already leaps and bounds quieter and smoother riding ... with nearly zero comprise on capability ... just my .02¢

ive been running the G003 for a few years now and i gotta say they are bulletproof. tread life and gas mileage arent great because lets be honest, this is a MT tire. that being said I bought a new set the other day because they just dont quit. I dont see a lot of mud but when i do, i dont even bother going into 4x4 because these boys pull through every time. I usually do very rocky terrain here in AZ and these bad boys take hits like nothing, Sidewalls are impenetrable. I blew 3 Nittos in the year prior to getting the Geolandars and after that ZERO tire failures on some nasty terrain. I also know that they are quieter by a good margin on road than the BFG KM3s. the Geolandar MTs are beast mode tires i cannot recommend them enough.

They hold the road and corner very well on dry and wet conditions and soon we will see how they do on snow and slush covered roads. I am still working on finding the sweet spot for tire inflation. I have them at 40lbs and on the days the temps dip they stay around 38lbs. Might drop them to 35 to see if that softens the ride a little.
