Thanks, never knew you could buy vinyl siding patches, how cool! Great video, loved that you were a woman, go you! ❤️👍🏼😉
Thank you!
Helpful and accurate video. You can get a good paint color match by taking a clean piece of the siding to a paint store and having them color match a sample of good quality exterior latex acrylic paint for you. Small samples are not expensive and can be very useful down the road.
I used flex seal tape to repair mine. I used a scrap peice no bigger than a quarter, took it to home depot and had the paint to match the siding. Painted the flex seal tape. 5 years later it is still standing tall. You will never notice.
Problem solved.
Thank you so much. My underpinnings have holes in them from a tenant using a weed eater too close to the rental. God bless you.
This is a great tip. Neve would have thought of this!!
Very helpful and glad i came across it! Thank you for posting this video!
It never even occurred to me that there might be a patch kit... so thank you! Since I already have the paint, I opted for the $8 patch as opposed to the $180 replacement vinyl piece.
Yeah, didn't occur to a contractor I spoke with at one point who ended up flaking on me anyway. I should have looked here first ...
Ummm siding is like $10 a piece unless you mean with someone’s labour included
@@justinstevenson2061 true. 1. You can get lucky and your local supplier might have a few pieces leftover from a job that just so happen to match your original siding. 2. To buy siding, you have to buy by the box (called a “Square”). Each square has ~24-30 pieces. 3. I know because I ask looking desperately now for replacement pieces and striking out big time.
@@AdedoyinOyelaran depends where you are and where you look. I have a distributor near me that can order from several manufacturers warehouses. So they will have same day availability if you want to opt for pick up.
In a few cases where it wasnt available same day, it can be ordered in. and thats meaning the manufacturers warehouse didnt have it, but they can order it from another warehouse or even production plant etc.
Also sometimes yes you have to buy a full box (usually 100sft which yes roofing/siding guys call a square).
But i have matched 40 yr old aluminum siding through them. Also they have colour swatches from several different manufacturers, and sometimes you can find a close enough match from a different company than whats on your house.
Those little red 'siding removal tools' are your best friend. pretty well every box store carries them. Just plug your holes from nails pulled, tuck tape if tyvek maybe go caulk if black felt.
Besides ladder and heights its not too hard. also get the yellow rubber ladder tips, massively increases safety on the ladder on the siding.
or the stand off bars which also have rubber tips, but also bring you away from the wall so you dont have to lean back as much.
Thanks! I need to replace pieces of siding and I don’t know how to do it or how to unsnap and snap and all that stuff so this was very helpful! I think I just have to get in there and start looking at it😊
Thank you for the video, very helpful and very informative
Thanks, very timely video!
Awesome 👍👍 thank you you. I mostly love the fact that you were VERY! informative and straight to the point. Because of that I would definitely subscribe. ❤❤❤❤
thanks! yes, I prefer watching videos that just get right to it so I try and do the same in my content
I'm really glad you made this video, I needed this.👍
you're very welcome
Thank youuuuu… looking for a patch and just ordered it ❤
Excellent advice!!!!
In the uk you can buy a silicone that matches the colour and fills holes etc but the patch is pretty cool
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Ordering one of those patch kits very soon. Thank you for doing this.
your welcome
00:29 No Tyvek house wrap? Just straight onto the wood OSB. My word.
The bigger problem is there’s no tyvek under that siding
Water does make it past that wonderful looking Dutch lap siding at times and will destroy the flake board sheathing as well
agreed, this happens to be an outbuilding, but still should have had it either way
I was going to say the same thing, no tyvek....siding does not stop water, the tyvek does..siding is designed to breath and in order to do that it also allows water past...you have to have good drainage behind it...
Unfortunately, until 2012, UBC code didn't require a vapor barrier behind vinyl siding. I've worked on lots of nice, large homes that had extensive water damage around windows and doors because of this issue.
@@samspade9980 I’m a builder and It’s crucial that the tyvek is installed properly too with correct overlaps because the moisture will cause extensive damage due to cheap particle boards and all that other stuff that soak up water like a sponge
@@glennlienhop342 I'm fully aware. I'm a builder since 1986, and I've always used a vapor barrier. I've never had issues with siding. I spent a great number of years doing insurance claims and remodel /repair and the number of homes I saw with water damage is unbelievable.
Quick and to the point!!!!
Thank you for this video.
Great video! Better than any repair video I have seen. Very infomative
Wow, thanks!
Thanks…guys at lowe’s said no patches are sold so buy the whole thing ..wankers lol
Nicely done
WOW! FANTASTIC! Just subscribed. Thank you!
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this video i bought patches 😊
Amazing!!!! Thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Wow, thank you
I used clear silicone caulk and filled the hole working fine
This is an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing. I wish there was a close up shot of the painted patch at the end of the video :(
email me at info@thedailydiy.net and I'll send you a close up shot of what it looks like now, which is almost 2 years later. I still have the same patches on that I did in this video.
Thank you ❤😊
Thank you!!!!!❤
Thanks 🙏🤓👌
thank you so much.
Definitely good to fix that immediately, keeps the yellowjackets out
a little water (like a few drops) with a little bit of white paint mixed in will help lighten the color of your paint. Just do a small batch, and paint a little on something else that is spare piece plastic, and let dry to see if it better matches your siding before painting. You gotta let paint dry to get the actual finish color.
Nice work lady
thank you
Thanks for the video! How do I secure loose siding back onto the house? When I press the siding it’s not clocking into place.
Additional tip, don’t drive the nails in all the way. Vinyl needs room to expand and contract.
great tip, thank you for adding
I used JB Weld with a piece of left over siding to cover the crack/hole.
Amazon repair kit, quart of paint, and paint sponge. Could have just bought a panel of DL4 Natural Clay siding. The gap left on the overlap is just as problematic as the holes. Each siding manufacturer has their own specific locking system. There is a serial number on each panel locking system that inicates color and manufacture to match new panel with existing panels.
luckily l have white siding so I fill hole with white caulk and then paint over the patch. and try to remember to turn the mower away from the house next time.
yeah, those mowers are the worst. I think that's how I keep getting holes in mine.
Is there by chance any corner piece patched?
I ordered that Guppyhill patch kit. Prepped the siding, it didn't stick. I hate vinyl siding.
wow no vapor barrier the wood is toast
Most often you don't have to remove the nails, you can flex the siding off the nail and flex the new piece back onto it.
Can you pleaseeee tell me the color of exterior paint you used?
I’m going crazy trying to match my siding and it looks like your siding is the same as mine 👍🏻
I had a custom color done, I actually took a small piece of siding to the paint store and had them match it. If you cannot take a piece of siding, bring home several paint swatches and try to find the one that matches the closest.
So this can be cut to size? I see you did it here but I'm wondering if anyone has feedback on using small pieces to cover nail holes.
yes, you can cut these patches to any size
@@thedailydiy thank you. This may seem an easier route than Bondo. I'll have to give this a try.
Buy yourself a Zipper, and do it when weather is warm or sun is on the siding. Cold siding will snap very easily
Can you share the link for the patches?
Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/463fEA4
FYI instead of tinsnips turn a table saw blade backwards and then cut it on the table saw
Thanks for the video. I need help. Ha. And if anyone has advice on un-raveled underpinning, 🙁
Do you should take your vinyl down and insulate it behind it it'll help you cool your home down and helps you in the winter and keep your house warm
my house is wrapped, this is just an outbuilding I have that stores lawn equipment and tools.
Fyi, it doesn't help keep your home warm lmao.
Not repairing; covering up! Big difference.
can you text what you used to patch it and how do I look for it
I used Guppyhill Vinyl Siding Patches from Amazon
No tar paper or tyvek on the sheathing so that wood is going to rot as siding is not waterproof.
You could have bought a piece of replacement siding for the cost of that paint.
Build your houses out of bricks like we do. No holes !
Yikes no house wrap!
this is my outbuilding, and I didn't build it, but agreed, not good
Yeah this is a serious problem, osb doesn’t fair well when it gets wet. I’d strip that siding and get a WRB on that osb asap.
That tool ur talkin about is a sideing zipper tool an ya probly ought go ahead an find u one cuz u can see u didnt get the lok lip locked bak in. But good vid all the same
Wait. Those two joints side by side on top of each other are not correct.
Whoever installed your vinyl siding didn't put up a vapor barrior? That is a no no!
Actually house wrap, rather than vapour barrier, but you're right, it is missing.
@@bobmcl2406 I guess house wrap may have been a better choice of words but I always used fan board to keep water off the sheating.
@@mattedwards4533 interesting. I just looked that up. I have never seen it here in Canada. Looks like it creates more air gap. Thx for expanding my knowledge. I have typically just seen vinyl siding installed directly over Tyvek house wrap.
@@bobmcl2406 I have seen the use of Tyvec myself. I am in the southern U.S. and have a semi-tropical clime. Sweating behind the vinyl would eventually reek havoc on the sheathing if not kept away from it. When I was in the construction bussiness I always used fan board. I saw the use of Tyvec slowly start to be used. Regardless of a persons choice it is imperitive that a barrior be installed of some sort. I can't understand why a contractor would install vinyl over bare sheathing? Maybe he just didn't know?
Vinyl siding is often done with nothing underneath, in the south. Most "wraps" have a flame temp that is substantially less than the house or vinyl.
lmfao
Duct tape works great.
It sounds like it's fast forwarding!
I use screws.
Well shit thatz how it's done huh
I feel lame.. I just put a piese of duck tape on it and called it a day! .. Cheers
PS.. I actually tried to get the tape that would match but bought the wrong collor anyway . Im sure it will last untill im willing to spend more money on another roll of tape... ROFLMAO
Anyway ... thanks for the video : )
Girl, where is your house wrap?
my house is wrapped, this is a detached garage/outbuilding. Bought this house already built 2 years ago, but I agree still good to have it on outbuildings too
@@thedailydiyabsolutely necessary. Look at all the weep holes on the bottom of each siding piece.
They are there because the manufacturer knows water gets behind.
How people can install siding without housewrap baffles me
Many garages don’t have house wrap.
@@HomeRapidRepairwell that’s just wrong though.
No siding is 100% waterproof, and house wrap is your waterproof (WRB = weather resistant barrier)
Thanks, Honey but that's not fixing it , that's replacing it duuuuuuuh!!!
I would consider retro fitting a small piece of siding “fixing it” and not replacing the siding. If you watched the entire 2 mins she also patched a hole. That’s definitely a fix too.
The first part she shows replacing the small piece. My original thought was the same as yours. Then she shows how to fix it if you don't have siding, just like she said she would. It's a short video so watching it until the end before criticizing her is a good idea.
Replaced and fixed
Chaulk
I greatly dislike vinyl siding. It just looks and is cheap and can warp in really hot weather.
WHAT IF I SMASH MY FINGERS
I hate vinyl siding! It looks so cheap.
Don’t put that garbage on your house in the first place. Stop buying houses with this trash!
It's Georgia Pacific siding color is clay. Just go buy a piece of siding and replace it. Stop with the moronic "fixes"!
You can't put wallpaper on vinyl siding! The first half of this vid is perfect though. just use exterior grade caulk or buy a new house. WOMEN!
it's not wallpaper, it's a product designed specifically for this type of application.
Jason must be living alone…in a van…down by the river…😢
@@Fatchadomi Hey, sounds good to me!
@@Fatchadomi Lol...
That’s why she used a patch specifically designed to patch vinyl siding. I’m not sure if you’re joking but just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean she can’t be better at fixing stuff than a dude.
This chick bahahah using garden tools to cut it and a old 1900 wooden hammer. I'm quit.
Step 1 should be.... DON'T PUT VINYL SIDING ON YOUR HOUSE !!
Flat bar on old siding will keep you from breaking while you take the nails out.
You're good with the cats paw... meow
