- Cognitive scientist Donald D. Hoffman reveals why an entirely new paradigm is needed to understand the nature of reality.
This is an excerpt from “Reality Is Not As It Seems“ recorded on February 7, 2019 at The New York Academy of Sciences. For the video of the complete discussion, see: • Reality Is Not As It S... - Věda a technologie
Hoffman is pushing at that wall,. if enough of us pitch in it's gonna collapse.
Whether or not people push at that wall, the wall will come down.
I'm going insane
I'm very much in Donald's camp. Love it! Mind-blowing, but still makes sense for me after contemplating everything I've read/heard/experienced.
YES!!!
I am going crazy listening this guy. That means I am nit exist. All I am is imaginarry. Mind blowing.
more like, only you are real, whatever your perceive (i.e. the spacetime) is imaginary because your consciousness created it.
@@bsauce4879 yes, but it is created via senses, that capture some parts of reality.
We’re really stretching things here
Oh yeah.. I am literally up for that..
Final truth by Raman Maharishi and Lord Budhha.. There is only eternal presence all else is an illusion.
man made time, does that not say it all
What it should mean is vacuum lightspeed is a function of gravity, but that would be too simple for the world's greatest minds, I imagine, so wormholes and worm bridges will still be fun.
Space-Time Is indeed Not Fundamental, but nor we understand the nature of consciousness to say that it is Fundamental. Sadly, evidence suggests that consciousness is an emergent property from complex memory.
Has this guy been talking to Alex Jones?
Read his book if you think he's crazy.
This means God is an internet of consciousness, and that it's not a god.
The latter part of your answer assumes that God is an individual … the former part is more towards the truth
2:20 straight bullshit "when you close your eyes you make it go away" I can still feel, smell, hear, taste and think just can't see.
thats an example way of telling it. u smell, hear etc ok agreed.
but it exists because of all the conscious agents that exist. the reality itself is fundamentally different.
we dont have any evidence that when we dont look at something or are not conscious of that area, that it exist.
its mostly in a quantum superposition
Perhaps you don't fully understand what he is saying.
I'd phrase it as "when you die, you make it go away, until consciousness returns again"
Nah he means when you meditate and ignore all of your senses then you enter what is “real” - simply your consciousness.
@@idonotlikethismusic I think that Hoffman does not understand himself. He mentions same things over again, e.g. chocolate example which does not makes sense...
As we learn more and more, it appears Einstein was wrong about a lot of things. His ideas are incompatible with what we learned, on so many important matters... Plus, he didn't even come up with relativity himself. A serbian scientist in the 17th or 18th century did it and Albert read that paper, as it was well known but not widely believed or fleshed out.
For anyone watching, the physics questions and theories referenced are real things, the garbage about consciousness discussed on stage is not.
