I noticed that head gasket was copper so you could anneal it to get it pilable again. Heat it with a cooker or gas torch until cherry red then allow it to cool naturally. The copper will be annealed again and good for next use. You can do the same with copper crush washers if they are in good shape. They work harden over time and annealing makes them soft again.
It runs so good because it was made when they actually made things last
This is true but I somehow managed to blow my 84 kx80 🤣
Haha because it is a little air cooled 2 stroke that makes about 15 horse, not much that can break on it lol
Same I have a 2006 yz85 rings is bad almost no compression but if you bump start it it runs nice just a little bog
How many bikes you see on the road from
I agree! They don’t make things to last anymore.
The gouges in the piston and cylinder port aren't disastrous. Two new piston rings and a few new gaskets, this dog is good for another 20 years! 🐶
As old as they are the IT and KDX are awesome trail bikes. Both are absolutely bullet proof as you have shown with the IT.
KDX was bullet proof, IT was junk
I am seriously impressed! I love watching your videos please don't ever stop!
Try a Yamaha blaster cylinder and piston. With a little modification it could probably work. If you want I can even send you the specs for the stud holes to see if they would line up.
Done some research and the IT200 shares the same engine parts of the blaster so you should be able to rebuild that bike man I only wish I could find a bike like this
I think the Blaster 200 is the same engine and parts will swap out also.
What an awesome revival really goes to show how bullet proof these old 2 stroke motors are they were built simple and reliable, hope to see this bike on the channel in the future long live the 2 strokes!
My older brother had an IT175. Was a nice bike
Haha unbelievable can’t believe that ran joe kicked it it into submission right enough lol awesome mate hopefully you get some parts to repair it properly great video man 👍🔧🔧🔧👌
That was an amazing video, cant wait to see part 3 with new piston and correct carb/jets. Keep up the awesome work, great free content.
deserves to be rebored and it'll go again, show it some love man! it wants to go again, they never die these old strokers!
Wow, I cant believe it runs that good. If I were you I would run 20 to 1 oil ratio.
I swear that tiny little bent screwdriver is probably your single most used tool ever! Hahahaha I believe it makes an appearance in every single video you've ever made 🤔🤷♂️😝🤣
It puzzles me how some people could put a 2 stroke piston the wrong way?. Arrow on piston always towards exhausted port 👍. Great work and great video 👌.
You passed that off to a unsuspecting 16 year old with a $1000 bucks didn’t you! Anyways it was running and you got your 1 ring video! Good job reviving a old friend!
Right on!!!! That was an exciting video! I'm an old dirtbiker from the 80s and really dig your channel.
Cant wait for the next one!!!!
We and my buddies used to ride those IT Yamaha bikes back in the 80s . Had a lot of good times riding those bikes
I cant believe the thing ran and well... seems 80% of the compression comes from the piston itself... i would have thought it would smoke horribly or run with really low power ... but it looked like every other old dirt bike in the Caribbean.
You have an amazing gift my friend. I just bought a 90 Honda xr250r it’s getting work done please send your blessings to my bike🙏🏾
yamaha in that age was rock solid parts!!!!
Yamaha in general. Even modern yamaha's are as good or better than honda's, reliability-wise. If only they could fix their suspensions though.....
@@alexandermorris2335 what wrong whit the suspensions lol
Hey Joe; at least the gouge in the piston, and gouge in the cylinder are on opposite sides now ;-) BTW, check out Dale Sweger's youtube channel. He does all sorts of fun stuff on old 2-cycles, especially Yammy's. He has videos on modding cylinders, increasing port sizes with die grinders and stuff that may apply to your bike there. (he might even have a cylinder like that laying around). Awesome stuff you got there.
One Ring Working WOW. That’s amazing to say the least 🤘😎
Dude this made me smile. I got a dt175 actually how I found your channel. But the cylinder and piston were scored too crap. The lower ring was stuck I filed the ring land and got it free put it together and it ran wouldn't idle n drilled the intermediate and it idles now lol m gonna get a top end kit on Amazon n I'll be back lol
Back in high school I had a 1979 IT 175. She freaking ripped!
Revving the thing out and everything, amazing work
I love it Joe 😀 work with what you have !! Single ring easy install dude !! Awesome little bikes , very reliable, 125 top end will work to if you find one .. very fun and entertaining video 👌👍👌👍
Snowmobile season is coming!
Very educational on this one joe! I love it. Would like to see you take it out to the property and give her a proper full send. See how long itll really last
your neighbors already hates you for the noise in the garden LOL
thats amazing, didnt think it would even start like that, makes me wonder why i rebuild over little things now lol
Those old dirt bikes are Kick-Ass
Wiseco should have a piston kit and i believe the jug is boreable up to .080. The jug should clean up with that. They sell sizes in increments of 0.010 usually. The bike looks identical to my 1982 IT175J. You should bore it out and woods race it.
You should give it a new piston and rings and new gasket kit. Jet it decent and get the right slide for the carb and that bike Will actualy run better than you think. You should clean up the plastics abit to and allso do a topspeed run on it. If you drive it with piston and cylinder like that i would mix abit more oil with gas just to be on safe side!
She got the one ring ping lol
Gosh, too bad I didn't see this sooner. I have a perfect cylinder for an 85 IT 200. Along with a spare, complete! runner motor.
Buy a blaster 200 motor and put it in it that would be dope 💯💯
If you used a bored and ported 240cc etc. This maybe your most fun bike ever.
The it200 the chain is on the right side and the blaster is on the left side
advanced sleeves is a great company and fast turn around. only company i use to have my cylinders resleeved.
Pretty cool how you got that bike to run the way you did, I dig your land and trails keep ripping👍🏼👍🏼
Pulling a Soichiro Honda by making your own pistons, awesome work!
I bought a 1984 CR60 and the dude that I bought it off of didn't get one of the C clips in good enough and it fell out ,he said he want about 30 feet and it locked up . I tore it apart cleaned it up got the rings unstuck ,put it back together and got 155 pounds of compression, that was after I bought a running engine off ebay for 168 bucks
great job well done,,very inspiring ,,greetings fron australia
They things go for crazy prices in uk .
I had the same bike and was planning on buy this one
You don't shy away from a difficult job.
Much appreciated.
Damn i can’t believe it runs, nice joe!! When you rev it up damn it sounds like a blaster!!!
It sounds like Vinny is trying to tunnel out of his cage lol 😂
Dude send the cylinder out to get worked. The right shop will supply everything you need.
Check for air-leaks with WD40 - brake-cleaner works too, but it's too harsh on rubber and paint.
Never under estimate the one ring! One ring to rule them all 🙂
Ho Lee Chit you can’t stop a 2 stroke. Fun rebuild.
i hope theres another part 3 coming out soon. add another ring and maybe some decals
I had a 1982 Yamaha IT250. I rode it for months with no issues except for the Carburetor Intake Manifold. It was cracked, and had been "repaired" with Gasket Maker which was causing a massive air leak, and I was unable to tune the Carburetor properly. I finally found a company on Ebay that made replica Manifolds for $120. I eventually traded it for a clapped out 2010 Yamaha TTR-230 after I realized parts were hard to find/expensive for these old bikes. The boy I traded it to was riding it, and it blew up on him the next day. I honestly didn't think it'd ever blow up. I question if he didn't mix the gas properly, and leaned the top end out too much as these old bikes require a very rich mixture (20:1).
IVE GOT SOMETHING SPECUL 4 YUO HOSS!!!! 🖕🖕
Mate tinker with it and source out the parts if you look about and ask it is a bike worth having in your collection these bikes are fun
well done mate, whats the banging in the back ground is jade building stuff? good vid and a surprise..
Quick tip use a torch or a heat gun on stuck piston rings
I definitely learned something. Only buy stuff with available parts. lol
I don’t get why they don’t make piston rings that wrap around like twice around, kinda like a very short spring. Wouldn’t that be like the equivalent of having two rings? Wouldn’t the compression be way better? Wouldn’t it create a better seal?
I bet a cylinder and piston for a blaster would work for an it200
These are great bikes so well made and a ton of fun when these were made they took pride in making things last
This video is sick, its a perfect change of content to destruction but the same category as you normally make, and i bet even after all that put a new plug it in and maybe some rings and it'll still run again 😂 love the vids keep up the good work!
Edit: if you ever do wanna try and restore it i think the early yamaha blaster cylinders will work with it because i think there the same size
You can fix anything-recreational !
Those old machines are tougher than a $3 steak. It's pretty cool that you got it to run with a bum top end.
Wonder if a blaster cylinder will fit it
Joe you should always leave the airbox off so that you can choke it with you hand ✋️ when your hand gets wet with fuel you know its getting fuel
I agree with you, try the plug
That's very interesting, I'm surprised that it ran reasonably well. What are the old XL Honda in the background, with no motor, and the XR Honda I think it is? It would be great to see your collection please mate
Yamaha IT175/200 or a Suzuki PE175 are my most favourite bikes of the 1980's.
Pretty awesome you got it running, any updates on it? I bought one complete in but in pieces and look forward to making some noise with it!
It's gonna b a good 1 Joe,gl brother,looks like u gonna need it!😫🤔😱😱🦵🙏🙏🤔
You can sleeve the cylinder if you want, probably would run around $350 in the states idk I’m Canadian
Loads of race bikes only have one ring, 125 and 200SX KTM's for example. We ran the 465/490 Yamahas with only the top ring only until Wiseco brought out a single Dykes ring piston and then Yamaha made one. The only downside is you need to change them more often but on a race bike it doesn't matter.
One ring to rule them all!😂😂
Great video Bro, as usual! Keep up the good work!
It runs better than any of the other machines you attempt to fix. Lmao
Can't believe it even starts
If I didn't live 1500 miles away from you, I'd be happy to buy that little bike.
Just when I thought I’d seen it all this shows up 🙈
I believe that motor was the basis for the blaster motor. See it a blaster cylinder will bolt up.
I haven't seen most of the video yet but I wonder if you could use a YZ cylinder and piston. Maybe slightly different CC but if the cylinder fit and the piston fit the cylinder it might work. You could probably take that cylinder and piston to someone who was good at TIG welding and they might be able to fix them.
Could you take the cylinder to a machine shop to see if the cylinder can have a sleeve it to save it. If so then call wiseco piston for a over sized bore. Just in thought. Then rejet the carburetor..
Too bad this bike is toast. This is really a cool bike man. Hope you will patch it up!
Blaster is based on the it200 use the blaster cylinder they real cheap on ebay. ***** I say it every time and u never listen or try, use heat and piston ring pops out ring I use a torch but oven might work as aluminum expands and contracts at differant rate
Use copper head gasket spray by permitex on the head gasket.
Deep Creep or Blaster works wonders.
IT are solid bikes
Heat cylinder next time with torch may help expand ring a little lol
try "pole position high speed 2t" oil on your air cooled two strokes
Joe u have the patience of a saint u have that never say die attitude witch u need with two strokes 😅 two strokes wind me up -- top video
send it to Powerseal USA in Pottstown PA they can replate/coat that cylinder good as new
Before the IT or YZ there was the MX it had a single ring piston.
i agree with other commenters, bore the engine and port it,you will have a good engine again.I had this done to a couple bikes in my time and they worked amazing. This would be a powerhouse bored out,my old stock it200 was fast .find a machinist locally and bore that thing before you totally destroy it,they are getting harder to find these bikes.
We have in my country(Finland) it is blue/green glueish stuff that ya can but it every were to sealant and that beyond time its just burn and fade away! Best thing what i have ever use but when i remember name of that thing i told you cause its amazing stuff if ya wont buy every time new gaskets if ya want just try if its starts! Sorry my shitty english..
Great video as always
One of the most powerful bikes of the it series was the 465 what a trench digger that was much like the yz you have
Hard to kill an IT many of us tried back in the day lol.
I owned 3 honda Mini bikes 2 Honda QR50 2 stroke mini bikes 1983-84 models & a Brand New 2004 Honda CRF 50F (It burned up in my shop fire with the '83 Honda QR50 & 1974 Honda TL 125) Next bike i owned was a 1972 Honda CT70 K2 sad story it had bike caught fire a litte bit i did blow the fire out. then the bike need a new Carb. Sold it for $550. I owned a 1974 Honda TL 125 Trials bike. Then a 1978 Yamaha MX 100 & a 1978 Suzuki DS 100 2 strokes. the next 2 bikes where my 1984 Yamaha DT200R 2 stroke that got stolen Ya a bummer. MY last & hopefully more to come is my Yamaha is a 1976 Yamaha DT 400 Big Bore Enduro. ATV & ATC I owned was 1986 Honda ATC 250ES Big Red Never got it running. Sold it for $200. I owned a 1987 Suzuki LTF 230 atv. bought it for $600 & some people gave it to the son in law along with the Parts ATV that was a bummer.
Get in touch with Ken OConner racing. He does wonders with Blasters and all cylinders!!
Hearing Pennsylvania we have a motorcycle salvage yard in I was in it one time is full of engine I don't know what it's where it's at I forget where I found it
Kann das sein das du die Schwimmerkammerentlüftung verschlossen hast?
Maybe you should`nt have closed that hole from the carb ;-)
I love your videos , awsome bikes
