  • In this video, Leah explains what to expect during a C&P exam for IBS. She notes that these exams, conducted by nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or physicians, are essential for veterans seeking VA disability benefits, especially those with Gulf War service. The examination process includes reviewing medical records and filling out the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ), which covers various aspects such as diagnosis, treatment history, symptoms like diarrhea, constipation, abdominal distension, and any related complications like malnutrition or weight loss. Leah emphasizes the importance of veterans having their symptoms and treatments well-documented, including any weight changes or impact on work.

    IBS with diverticulitis. Diagnostic Code 7327 (diverticulitis) provides that the disability should be rated as for irritable colon syndrome. I wonder if VA may consider PACT Act as a form of gastro cancer?

      Functional gastrointestinal disorders to include chronic diarrhea are often related to gulf war exposure. It really just depends on the specifics. I had emergency appendectomy (ruptured) 1986. Many instances, of vomiting, diarrhea , nausea, dehydration, abdominal pain. I've had emergency room visits in 1998, 2003, 2005, 2009 ( twice), 2012 (multiple organ failure and abdominal pain), 2015, 2019 blocked colon, and 2023 blocked colon. Those visits were very severe, the incidents when I could bear the pain I didn't seek medical help and so no documentation. QUESTION: Could the multiple organ failure (liver and kidney) be caused by the abdominal condition via dehydration or other means and can I claim it separate from my claim for DC 7301 Peritoneal Adhesions? The doctors did not know what caused my multiple organ failure and after 3 weeks of dialysis,two of those weeks in the hospital I was able to get off dialysis.

    What is the difference between an episode, an attack and an exacerbation of IBS? I am 0% S/C for IBS and on the DBQ, section 4, it is not checked off on the occasional, frequent or constant part but under the episodes of exacerbations with 7 or more checked. How is a rater to interpret this since the diagnostic codes only have the occasional, frequent and constant ratings? Love the content! Keep up the great work you do for all of us Veterans!

    • @prestigeveteranmedical
      @prestigeveteranmedical  Před rokem +1

      That is interesting. If you look at the DBQ you will notice that those lower portions are only to be completed if the answer to question 4 is yes. I wonder if the person made a mistake. Hard to say best to talk to a legal professional about that

      @@prestigeveteranmedical Check this out. I was called back in for a medical opinion DBQ with the SAME C&P examiner. I brought copies of the dbq's and kinda pointed out that I thought that section 4 needed to be checked off on the episodes. She thought that since she checked off the last part of that section 4 that it meant it was the more severe of the episodes. Meaning it should have been a 30% rating for IBS. Do you think it is a misunderstanding between the examiner and the VA? Just thought I would let you know and see if you had any input. Thanks again!

    I am in the process of having a second C&P exam for IBS/PACT ACT "presumptive condition" mid October. OPTUM Serve told me there was a "conflict of interest" regarding the NP (she recently provided C&P exams for radiculopathy and Degenerative Disc Disease (I'm not sure their rationale)....anyway I've had four gastro MDs with three diagnosing IBS and the most recent (two years ago) diagnosing as Chronic Constipation. So I'm not sure what I have. I recently got this ailment looked at in VA medicine (previously medical documentation were civilians). Stool samples for VA show no IBS issues; just had blood work early Oct awaiting results. Welcome comments.

    • @prestigeveteranmedical
      @prestigeveteranmedical  Před 9 měsíci

      I am sorry to hear that. I am sure you asked them to specify what the conflict of interest was specifically? As far as the IBS is concerned, it sounds like you may not have a formal diagnosis for that condition based upon what you mentioned. The C&P examiner is capable of diagnosing you but that does not mean the necessarily will unfortunately. Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

    Hi Leah, I’ve recently been in contact with your company for possible future services needed. I am currently awaiting a C&P exam for left shoulder that was injured during boot camp and had to have surgery to repair it. Long story short I was prescribed NSAIDs (prior to surgery as they kept telling me the shoulder was fine even though it kept dislocating) and ended up with IBS. I’m sure the shoulder will be service connected and we filed a secondary for the IBS. What’s the likelihood that the VA fights against the IBS claim and deny me? Enlisted in 2006, Injured in 2007, surgery in 2008, prevalent stomach issues by 2009’( weight loss, vomiting, blood, etc.) and separated 2010. Filed this past May with the help of a VSO since I never stopped seeing specialists for the stomach and shoulder. Have an intent to file for anxiety (with panic attacks) due to the IBS but VSO recommends waiting for the other 2 claims to be adjudicated first. These issues have been going on since before I was discharged and/or not long after. Mind you I was in the National Guard but the initial injury happened during training doing unarmed combative
