Smoothies are a great way to get nutrition in your body in a delicious way. This smoothie doesn't contain extra sugar if you hadn't noticed. So make sure to use a nice ripe banana for sweetness.
I like adding the raw cashews, which I bought at Trader Joe's, for some richness, protein and thickness. The chia seeds also add a couple of grams of protein per tablespoon and also help thicken up your smoothie to a milkshake consistency.
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup of blueberries or a bit more
1 thumbnail of fresh ginger, peeled
1/3 cup raw cashews
1 Tbsp. chia seeds
good dash of cinnamon (I love cinnamon!)
4 ice cubes
1 cup of liquid I used water, or milk, almond milk, coconut milk or water, etc.
Place all ingredients into a blender (I recommend the vitamix) and blend away for 45 to 60 seconds for a rich, creamy and smooth smoothie. It's so thick you could call this a shake.

I love making smoothies
I make a similar smoothie, but I omit the cashews and chia seeds. Instead, I use rolled oats, almond butter, flaxseeds and almond milk. Creamy and delicious!!

Wow! Haven’t thought to put nuts in a smoothie, yet I guess I’ve put almond butter in one in the past! 🤔 And, I totally need a vitamix. My Magic Bullet is not nearly as powerful! I make a similar smoothie, but instead of cashews, I add frozen peaches and raw kale! Yummy. Bananas make all smoothies good!
Hi Brenda, Vitamix are great but they're very expensive. An average Vitamix costs $400 to $500. I've found that a $100 blender can do most types of smoothies especially if you add some extra water. However, I did splurge for a juicer. But the difference is that the top of the line juicer to make green juice for consumers is less than $400. It's worth looking into. hey nearly the same i make ....... at least the chia banana ....... and blueberry.... but i use milk- almond and normal and no water ......... no spiceys but......vanille proteins.(for more protein).. and alga powder...(for more minerals) the nuts is a nice idea......u can also add wheat germ.. or ricemilk soya...... i mostly mix to milks and look that one of it is sweet. and the good its really yummy... ps almond and cashwe are close only different big one almond got more calcium iron and zink... and cashew more magnesium

Hello. I can't have seeds, is there anything else I could use with that to get the protein?
Hi, Marge. Getting "enough protein" is a false concept. Have you ever met anyone with a protein deficiency? I haven't. How would you know if you're getting "enough" protein? The answer is, even if you ate nothing but fruit for a week, you'd be getting enough protein. Yes, even fruit has protein. As carbon beings, our cells need sugar (in the form of fructose, not processed sugar) to survive, not protein. Just make the smoothy with the bananas (but use ripe bananas, with some brown spots) and blueberries, someone suggested coconut water - that's excellent. And for some nice texture, add a few Tbsp cacao nibs (broken bits of cacao beans). You'll be getting all the protein you need (unless you're a bodybuilder!).
When I construct my blueberry smoothies: I use 1 cup soy milk. 1 ripe banana. 1 cup frozen blueberries & tbl.spoon of honey. Almost similar to you're recipe minus the seeds. I would like to start adding cinnamon for an extra kick. Unfortunately I have to omit the seeds because of an aging diverticulitis issue. That won't make or break the recipe will it ? You say you use a handful of raw unsalted cashews ? I can handle that, if they're ground right. Thanx...
+super duper It won't be a problem to leave out the seeds. Your smoothie may not be as thick as with them but you can thicken it up by adding a bit more banana or cutting down on your milk. Adding a couple cubes of ice will also thicken things up a bit too. The cashews will thicken it up also. Happy New Year!
Avoiding seeds with bouts of diverticulitis has been debunked. You can have seeds!
You can try using some rolled oats. It adds a creamy texture that's missing by not using cashews. A half cup should be enough. Good health to you!!
@@reneebarnes1957 I just made my first one. Good. I did not have cashews used walnuts. But I like your suggestion of using rolled oats, which I make daily for breakfast. This could be a good alternative.

+Marisa Snowden I do not know the nutritional facts on this. In my opinion I don't worry about calories as much as ingredients. Eat real whole foods and the calories will take care of themselves. You can google the calories in a banana, the blueberries etc. and get an estimate. Hope that helps. Thanks for stopping in.

I do that every other day with the water , just like you, but instead of ice I also use a frozen banana.... Just peel a few ripe nana"s stick in bag, then in freezer , take one out when ready....# just sayin.. have a nice day...
