Red is not the industry standard for digital cinema production, ARRI is by several miles. Komodo is cool though 👌🏼
I know, I know. I misspoke. It is one of the industry standards ;) totally agree that most cinema productions are Arri and you find RED more commonly on streaming series/movies. That's fair to say right?
Joey Helms It is! Sorry I don’t mean to come down hard on this point, haven’t had my coffee yet. But yeah that’s fair to say. Nothing against Reds, it’s just that we don’t often see them on film sets because ARRI is currently the standard. That doesn’t mean I’m not super jealous that you’ve got a Komodo!

Ha, no offense taken at all and totally hear you! Yeah the Komodo is perfect for my travel/doc work where you don't want to lug around a DSMC2 RED or even an ARRI 😂 totally different usecases ;)
...and reds arent as reliable in some cases...but they are dope, but still can be a super headache on set

Easily the best Komodo footage I have seen so far. Considering this was shot using quite inexpensive lenses, some of the wide shots were simply stunning. Finally something to justify the price differential with the Bmpcc cameras!

Joe Allam RED or ARRI it depends on directors creativity I know some directors who shoot their scenes sometime opening scenes of their films by iPhone Just because the camera was not ready on set creativity is the real deal here and also I’m a RED guy.

@@samaBR_85 you can now shoot proress raw to an atomo recorder though. fixing many of the issues gerald outlines in his videos. proress rawe is still not as widely used as red raw or even canon new cinema rawlight codec has better support. but it's getting there

Its global shutter is a new info for me. Can you please do some low light testing. Amazed to see a7siii's low light capabilities, will love to see a comparison if possible.

Lowlight is very solid for a RED but don't expect anything near the A7S night vision like images. ;) More footage to come.
Great review! As someone who owns a Scarlet W and has used Monstro's, Helium's, Gemini's, & Raven's. The images off your Komodo sensor alone is killer! This is a GREAT price point for what it offers. The Dynamic Range, Colors, and RED RAW is where this camera will shine as Joey mentioned. RED has a great community and glad you are apart of it! Looking forward to getting my hands on one! I'm excited to be next in the queue for a Stormtrooper. Even though I've shot Red for years this is the most excited I've been for a new camera in a long time! I really dig the form factor tbh. It has some old school medium format photography camera feel to it.
I use 2x BMPCC 6K's daily (i'll actually be filming all day today after 13 hours of editing yesterday lol) tbh Blackmagic's ergonomics are horrible and the biggest drawback. I hope they eventually catch-up to every other camera maker...
A Bmpcc with the form factor of the Komodo or even there micro would be wonderful. Love modularity.
@@mitchellbrinkerdp exactly. Its silly they even use the term "pocket" since its huge. Im between 2 shoots atm and this morning it was hella irritating trying to balance the 6k on a Weebill S gimbal. I resorted to just going handheld lol

Would really appreciate if you could make a comparison video with the BMPCC6K if you have access to one. Please test the image quality and highlight roll off.

What do you expect as a result? There is no way the Komodos image is three times better than the Pocket6k. I dont think it is going to be better at all honestly. But it would make for some nice content to watch for sure.
I can't help but feel this would be so much more exciting if it was announced before the blackmagic 12k. Still an awesome price point for the red though
For me they are very different cameras and it all depends what you need. For me it is an always with me, travel/doc camera. Coming from an EVA-1 (which is smaller and lighter than the Ursa line) I got tired of its clunkiness and would never take it on a hike or so.
they seem like very different tools for different jobs. I personally am most interested in the c300 mkiii given the improved dynamic range, nd filters, and autofocus

Chris A For me.... it really boils down to the price point, and the image. For $2k you can shoot 6K and have an amazing image, without having to spend $6K. The new RED looks great but, for the amount of money you’re gonna have to spend, it really isn’t worth it for an image that isn’t necessarily better.
I agree with you - I don't see any triple (the price) added value - except the name.

I hear you! I am an A7S-II fan boy and maybe will get the S III down the line as they compliment eachother.
That's basically what I'm feeling too. Once you rig the Komodo with the basics, it's easily twice the price of the A7s III.
Internal 16 bit raw. Nuff said.

While the new Sony a7s iii has some capabilities that the Komodo does not, honestly I'd buy the Komodo if price wasn't an issue, solely based on this video. The footage was absolutely beautiful. I don't know if it was the color science, or the global shutter, or what. But the video you presented was movie theater quality. The new Sony is excellent quality too. But the Komodo seems to have the perfect combination of sharpness and softness to it that Sony and Canon just don't have.
