- You just got a RED CINEMA CAMERA? Or you are strongly considering one and wonder what the workflow is like? Well that is exciting and I was in your shoes just 2 months ago.

In this video we will explore the 7 things that are fairly different in the RED world compared to DSLRs, Mirrorless Cameras, and even other cinema camera systems. The biggest question I had, and am still pursuing, is: How do I get most out of this camera I just paid thousands of dollars for?
The RED Komodo 6K will likely be the gateway into the RED given its comparably lower price point, advantages in workflow, and compact size. This was certainly the case for me and therefore I want to share my initial learnings with you. By no means am I an expert on REDs and therefore possibly ran into the same challenges you might.

just knowing that the RED PRO CFAST 512GB costs $529.00 gives me headaches and discouragement ! i would rather stick with Sony Alpha !
Thank you for adding which lenses you used during the b-roll clips. It's a small detail, but much appreciated!
It's way too much of a contributor to an image to leave it out in this context ;)
@@Joey_Helms I started do that on my social media channels a while back. I would see footage and wonder what lens and aperture was being used. I hope those types of detail sharing becomes more mainstream.
Fingers crossed :)
I've been part of the RED community, using their ecosystem, for a long time. I think this is the most concise, no BS, just what you need to know, video I have ever seen for end to end work flow with RED. I'll integrate some of your tips into my workflow. It's always encouraging to learn a thing or two from a new RED user. Great work! Also, you are a talented DP. The example footage in this video is gorgeous!
Thanks so much Topher! Really appreciate hearing this from a RED vet! :) 🤙
I have to agree.
m
Agreed also. SO glad I stumbled onto his videos! Someone does needs to do a real series about accurate color correction vs. color grading - someone who's been around since before the time when people started using still cameras to make movies, so that it's someone who actually understands RYB gains, why they are what they are, and how to actually calibrate color to an accurate, measurable representation prior to "grading." :)
I'm not sure any accurate tutorials exist on the subject. Kind of like timecode - no one outside older filmmakers and tv studio engineers really understands it anymore well enough to explain it, much less teach how to use it. In fact, most don't even believe it's valuable. People spend $300 apiece on little devices to feed timecode into cameras without ever understanding what to do with it later, and even post in production companies producing shows for network tv just ignore the embedded tc and use plural eyes, smh.
Thanks man! Agreed on colour grading/correction. I may collaborate with a pro to talk about it at some point here cause I am just doing what feels right and is not scientifically accurate. And ha TC, yeah something I also just started using with the Komodo but such a big fan!
You’re a natural tutorial man. The perfect amount of information quickly and Important user tips I haven’t seen on CZcams yet. Keep it up bro!
Thanks a ton Artur. Very helpful to get that kind of feedback 🤙
Not only are the tips indispensable but the shots throughout are stunning. Thanks for sharing Joey.
Glad you enjoyed the video Andrew :)
You're legit!! This honestly feels like discovering all about a new camera myself and figuring out all the bits and pieces to make it work.... I will soon upgrade to RED and the credit goes to you sir! Kudos
Thanks so much! Very happy to hear that 🤙🤙🤙

very good!! Very informative, thanks mat! me gonna a buy one sooooonnnnn
Glad it helped and congrats! 🤙
Very good bro, thanks!!!
Beautifully executed video, saved me a whole 3 hours of converting in Davinci
Yep. The Komodo seems like it will make lots of people happy. And I started to watch your footage and realized all the shots are from Chicago. You did it justice. Unfortunately, in a few weeks it will start to feel like winter.....
Thanks a lot! Appreciate it! And ha, yeah I tried shooting as much as possible before the city freezes over ;)
Great stuff, keep it up! Also, I just wanted to point out that with the Komodo you don't need to worry about black shading again after changing exposure. On DSMC2 cameras you would have to do this if you didn't black shade for all the exposure range. But on the Komodo, when you black shade it takes into account all the different exposures for that sensor temp. You'll notice this when the changing exposures the E may go yellow, then switch back to green.
And as you mentioned the T/E (T=Temp and E=Exposure), watch these because if the T is green that means the temp changes haven't been significant enough to need a new black shade.
Also, that blob you saw almost looks like you had some light leak when you black shaded. Most lens caps aren't dark enough to do a trustworthy black shade. I would recommend the body cap over a lens cap in most situations. And then even trying to cover it up with something else dark if outside on a sunny day.
Finally, this is super important, black shade after your camera has warmed up (can speed this up by letting it record for several minutes).
Hope this helps!
Great, great call out! Gonna pin it for a bit so people read! Still learning 😉
@People - Please read it!
I need to make a correction to one thing. If you do make a significant enough change to exposure (+-1/2 sec) you will see the E go yellow, indicating a new calibration is suggested. But that is a pretty significant change as I've only seen the E go yellow when really cranking the shutter speed. Which ideally you don't want to do anyways to keep a natural motion blur.
Is the black shading going to be more efficient once it is no longer in Beta? I would find this super annoying if I constantly had to black shade.
@@CineGraphStudios No, this is not a beta issue, this is just how the camera works.
It’s really not as big of an issue as you think. But it is something to consider. This isn’t a point and shoot system.
@@WeAreMapuche I'm coming from an Eva1, so not worried about having a run and gun system. Just looking for my foot in the door with a Red, but wondering if I should save for an alternative Red.
Amazing! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🔥

Have had my Komodo for 4 months now. One of the best if not THE best camera investments I've ever made. Your videos have been insanely helpful in this experience and process.
Thanks so much Brandon :) v v happy to hear that!
do you think its better than the bmpcc 6k pro?
@@nakhoneproduction2164 I have/had both - just sold the 6Kpro, and in many ways yes it’s better and in others no it’s not.
@@BrandonTalbot but the image quality is better than 6k pro??? and when you colourgranding is better tahn 6k pro??now i just want tp upgrade my production to hightend quality...so i consider to buy bmpcc 6kpro or red 6 k komodo , I shoot movie, commercial and music videos
@@nakhoneproduction2164 yes it’s better red raw is arguably the best codec out there

Red and reliability in the same sentence. That made me chuckle.
Debating between trying to get my hands on a pre-order or just waiting and getting the final release version. Either way I'm very excited for this camera!
👍👍 pre-orders are closed I believe. ;) Maybe some retailers still have a white version
Hey I would like to see a video on how you choose cinema lenses and generally a guide for beginner to pro in buying a cine lens. I would like to see different brands, kits , the best lenses used by pros and much affordable ones or at least an alternative to that.also why should you use a cinema lenses? Do they produce better quality videos than the normal photography lenses like sigma 18 to 35 which you used in one of your videos? Can you explain it from a beginner point of view regarding cinema lenses.
Such video is on the production list ;) stay tuned.
I don’t even own a RED camera but enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work
Thanks so much! 🤙🤙
you are awesome
How do you only have 22k subs, dude your channel is fire!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
