The Dodgers. The Sacrifice Bunt. 2019. That's what this episode of Baseball Bits is about. MLB Bunting is in decline, and has been for about a decade. But the 2019 Dodgers with a trio of Clayton Kershaw, Hyun Jin Ryu, and Kenta Maeda were prolific at the sac bunt. Why bunt? Why no bunts? These are the questions that will be answered in this episode. With the help the of Run Expectancy Matrix, we'll see why it makes sense to sacrifice bunt with pitchers hitting, but not with position players hitting. We'll talk about the Universal Designated Hitter and whether it would end the practice of bunting entirely. Spoiler alert: you may still see bunts even with the Universal DH.
Another topic I'll tackle is bunt singles. Bunting for a hit still seems to be viable, although you need the right skillset to make it happen. Finally, we'll wrap things up by exploring the strategy of the MLB extra innings rules. These rules are not traditional, but they do make it viable to bunt in extra innings. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this Foolish Baseball production

As for the fans, no one's forcing anyone to watch anything. If the game's dragging on to much for ya you can always, I don't know, change the channel. The fans at the games typically don't get to attend both games, just the one they initially had a ticket for so they're actually getting shorted a bit. @@freeparking301 jays fan here. Carter’s moment is obviously one of my favourite baseball moments of all time (he also caught the final out in the 1992 WS) but he just isn’t actually a hall of famer; not even close, stats/career-wise. Lots of players (Vandermeer, Maris, Larson, etc) accomplished really cool feats, some in the WS, and aren’t in the hall of fame. That 1993 Jays team had 4 future hall of famers on it as it was, which is pretty cool. I could talk about former players who aren’t in the hall of fame who deserve to be (and guys like Delgado, McGriff, Stieb, Cone and Parker all makes the list as guys who played for the Jays, but Carter just isn’t one of them. wRC+ of 102, and 17 career WAR just isn’t even close.

Great video, but I'm pretty sad that you didn't even mention when coach Hank Hill used a series of bunts to ensure his team, The Zephyrs, took the early lead against The Ace of Diamonds and his Jewels in an exhibition softball match in 2006.
Coach Hill noticed that nobody was covering third base, as Ace's team actually only had three players. Hill had his team lay down bunts up third base line until they had a first-inning run.
Unfortunately, The Zephyr's undefeated season was ended by Ace's team that night, with a final score of 63-1.
