In german there is an idiom "Was man nicht im Kopf hat, muss man in den Beinen haben" which translates to "what you don't have in the head you have to make up with your legs". I guess the reverse is also true: If you have enough stuff in your head you can make up what you are lacking in your legs.

Freddie hits more doubles on ground balls to center field than any player I've ever seen. I'm not sure if there's any way to actually quantify them but it's really insane how often he does it.

Christian Yelich is 5th which is even more mind-boggling.
Yeah now that I think about it its pretty weird, like I had always disconnected speed and defense, we know guys like Yelich, Rickey, could be both fast and not great defenders, and inversely Judge or JRam, be slow but good defenders, but wasn't really sure if "smart" baserunners were necessarily good defenders, you'd think it'd be similar skillsets of judging timing but also angle and velo of batted balls. And yeah I guess there is, given most of the guys on that list are plus defenders off the top of my head, with Yelich being at least one exception.

Freddie and Goldy have some of the highest base running IQ in the league. Both super underrated in that way.
I wish the data went back far enough to bear this out, but I have a memory of Don Mattingly being the same type of baserunner - quite adept at going first to third or second to home on a single given his lack of speed.
Watching him run gives me two trains of thought. 1.) Nicolas Cage is fated to be cast in a straight to dvd/streaming Freddie Freeman biopic despite his age.
2.) You can actually feel the force of all his body weight he flat-footedly plants into the ground with each step through the screen of your phone
It's gotta be nice being disregarded as a baserunner when you have the brains to do it well. I bet it feels like a big brain move every time Freddie steals second.

My main takeaway from this video has nothing to do with Freddie Freeman's baserunning. It is that Whit Merrifield is older than Freddie Freeman.
The term 'Clydesdale' comes to mind seeing him run, but that's mostly used in reference to big, slow catchers. But Freddie isn't NOT a Clydesdale!

The difference is that Utley's best season by OPS+ would be Freeman's seventh best.
I will give you your bit of extra bases taken. Freeman has always been an aggressive baserunner and, when given the chance, will always go for the extra base. That's how he's always been.
However, I have to disagree with you on his basestealing. While it is normal to run on counts where it's expected that the pitcher is throwing a breaking ball low, the rate he was doing it at is unquestionably the byproduct of bigger bases, and _especially_ the brand new disengagement rules. A relatively slow runner like Freeman doesn't accidently steal 23 bases in a season otherwise, given this context.
I'm surprised you didn't bring those changes up at all, but I guess it wouldn't have fit your narrative.

Bad example - Correa just played a season with a serious foot condition (plantar fasciitis, unrelated to the ankle) that seriously damaged his foot speed, ability to plant, and ability to accelerate quickly. Not a great example.
