The St. Louis Cardinals' uniforms have largely remained unchanged throughout their 142-year history, a standard that continues with the team's City Connect unveil on Monday.
White at home and gray on the road have been the norm since 1901. The iconic "Birds on the Bat" decal debuted in 1922, becoming a staple of the Cardinals' design.
In recent years, St. Louis has worn an alternate cream look on Saturdays at home and an alternate blue look for Saturdays on the road.
The Cardinals opted to stay traditional with their City Connect design, which sticks with the franchise's famous uniform palette while paying homage to the history of "The Lou."
The look includes a red jersey being worn in the regular season for the first time in Cardinals franchise history. In 2014, St. Louis began wearing red jerseys in spring training, but dropped it this year. White pants and a red cap complete the design.

The Cardinals never wearing a red jersey feels like a Mandela effect to me. I was shocked.
That’s actually incorrect information. I remember at least one time they did so during the McGwire era
@@BigJoeGun3455 They had a red BP jersey in that era and red Spring Training tops, but not a regular season jersey. You are quite literally Mandela Effecting, or thinking to the BP jerseys or Spring Training jerseys. There's tons of pictures of McGwire in red Cardinals tops, but not in a real game.
Really? I literally thought I remembered them wearing it during at least one regular season game
Have you ever experienced summer in the Midwest. gets really hot and humid. Understandable why they didn't want to wear dark colors at home games.
@@stuffingtonjfluffypantsiii I live in the upper Midwest so yes I have though admittedly North Dakota doesn’t get as hot or humid as I hear St. Louis does
Yes my first reaction to this jersey was "The Lou" and thinking of the bathroom.
yup. totally the same.
Appropriate for St. Louis. It's a crappy city
@@davidbarker8354 excuse me no it’s not I’m a bit kind of fan and I live in St. Louis
Ok bud go back to England
You have to be from here to appreciate it.
Lis is pronounce Lee, the French hate having word sound like they are spelled. They always drop the last sounds if a word ends in a consonant.
The purpose of the City Correct program was to create more of a connection with the city. But more than any other MLB team, the Cardinals are already fully connected with the city. No other city define themselves by their MLB team than St. Louis. So doing something new with the jerseys is more likely to disconnect the team from us, than increase the connection. Frankly, due to how connected the city is with the team, I thought they should decline participating at all.
Precisely right!!! But not having a version would have been more pathetic then bold. That would be Yankee level arrogance/ignorance and the Cardinals are too good for that.
Ah....Boston....Red Sox....Fenway....Boston Marathon......
Chicago????
@@Deerhunter60641 Sox I love, Wrigleyville I like.
@@robertwoodcock222 The Cubs Wrigleyville City Connect uniforms feel uninspired. The Sox Southside City Connect uniforms are dope. One of the rare times the White Sox have something over the Cubs
Cardinals should have a front facing Cardinal with its wings spread and a broken bat in its talons.
I love that idea so much
The Lou, sounds like “The Loo”, aka bathroom.
The UK would be having a field day with this if they watched baseball!
Cardinals fan, these are underwhelming/ mid as hell. I do like the hats tho. I will probably get one when they go on sale
Literally what he said in the video
@@Bob-Loblaw13He did, and their comment was simply meant to emphasize that. Whoever shortened the city’s name and didn’t hear that in their head needs medical attention.
Even my St. Louis friends are laughing at this jersey they’ll never buy.
Call me old fashioned, but I don't care for ANY of the City Connect jerseys out there.
Yeah youre old. The rays ones are awesome and every other fanbase has agreed
I agree as a 26 year old these are all garbage

@@BellaBellaElla what’s your favorite baseball team?
The Lou I thought it was for Louisville Kentucky
'Country Grammar' 😊
Honestly, the red jersey is kind of sick. I get that its basic but some of these city connects are hella ugly.
They look better than the Mets and Phillies.
Looking like an alt is maybe the biggest blessing a team can get from the city connect program
I saw the Cardinals in London last year and I would love their fans to try and explain to me how these are a City Connect and not an alternative jersey, which BTW I’m glad Brodie agrees with me
I honestly dislike every city connect uniform, they remind me of pajamas. Most of them look ridiculous and silly. Tradition is a major part of baseball and these absurd uniforms feel like an insult to that. Pajamas belong in the bedroom, not on a baseball diamond. Much respect to the Yankees for refusing to take part in this nonsense.
Brodie’s got a new toy w the telestrator 😂
I noticed that the player name lettering on the back appears to be bigger, that's a good thing.
Personally I don’t see much of a difference, but the lettering still has the horrible curve and all the other 2024 jersey elements, such as the lower MLB logo. It’s not worth buying a jersey until next year in my opinion. I’m glad I got a jersey last year in 2023 before this fiasco
I really wanted to see the arch behind The Lou
I would too, but really cute. Don’t you think?
That's a new one for me The Lou meaning bathroom, never heard that before, learn something new every day
Yep! It's 🇬🇧 slang word."Loo"
Saying the uniforms are underwhelming would be, well, understatement....
They actually look really good. Top 10 for me
The point is , Nike wants sucker's to drop another $200
As a Red Sox fan I can appreciate our yellow city connect jersey, given it's tie to the beloved Boston Marathon, but these jerseys for teams have gotten out of hand. Some are pretty cool, but most are down right ugly.
As a lifelong Cardinals fan I like the color I just wish The Arch had more than small arm patch, and I always hated the nickname The Lou. I'd have gone with St. Louie but I admit I'm a musical theater nerd and Meet me in St, Louie, Louie is one of my favorite songs. I didn't even know about the river pinstripes until I saw the jersey up close. It doesn't stand out.
As a fellow lifelong Cardinals fan. I was hoping they would embrace a new version of the former St. Louis Browns uniforms.
@@Iamacardinalfan That would be awesome, but probably can't because the technically the Browns are still around in the form of the Baltimore Orioles
Boston's still remains my personal fav and it was the first one
great another hat i can not wear in LA
Why can’t u wear it in LA
@@amyspezia4706cause she’s being a drama queen 😂😂😂😂
The "STL" on the hat looks like someone took some old bones from a museum that they couldn't put together to form a dinosaur and said "you know what? These could be letters instead."
The Jays City Connect hat allegedly leaked on Reddit a couple of days ago, and if it's true it's horriawful.
They are selling just fine. Did you watch any of the games after they released the jerseys. Overall you're right. As a die-hard St Louis Cardinals fan. I hate most of the city connect jerseys. Maybe the Cardinals did go a bit too conservative. I'd rather err on the side of caution than some of these hideous jerseys I've seen.
I think the Cardinals should be taking part in the London Series. Different spelling I know but I think the people of London would love it.
They played the Cubs there last year.
@@Wilco1972 Don't think you got it.
There not bad, i mean if your from st louis its a nod to nelly, if you hear his songs hes from "the lou" and he's proud. I mean, they did play them very safe, they could have done a lot better, especially with the ballcaps. With as long as the cards have been around, i feel like there is so much history they could have tapped in on.
This reminds me of a billboard that showed Budweiser beer as "Brewed for The Lou". Isn't that where all beer ends up - in the loo? 😆
They look fine . Brodie needs content
"Los Dodgers" 🤝"The Lou"
That fanfic rendering with "THE LOU" and the arch actually looks cool. Add a pair of redbirds sitting on the arch and there ya go.
The Lou? The Bathroom.
As a life time cards fan I agree with you Brodie. They went conservative and it’s supposed to be about “the city”. Also need navy blue in there more
The lettering on the cap looks like bones.
fitting for downtown st louis
The Lou is where you piss between innings.
looks like they could be louisville cardinals baseball unis
There’s a guy on CZcams who creates city connect concepts and his are way better for every team than anything Nike puts out. Nike needs to be relieved of their duties.
Link?

In an alternate universe, the Cardinals are good ...
Brodie good video as usual. Love the expanded focus on topics other than the A’s.
Your pronunciation of fleur-de-lis is almost right. “Lis” is pronounced as “Lee” or as “Li” like in Jet Li. Basically, the “i” is the same as an “e.” Also, often in French, a “s” at the end of a word is usually silent. To perfect the pronunciation, try using “da” when pronouncing “de.”
Kudos to the owner for sticking to his principals. They were probably forced to do this.
Newark, NJ is the Brick City
I like it better than the Giants' City Connects.
They have an alternate city connect hat that is way better than the big STL one
I like the City Connect concept. It’s a nice breath of fresh air even if some of them are ugly. It’s not like the teams are changing their identity, loosen up a bit.
Baseball fans though are the worst when it comes to tradition. They’re no fun.
I like these jerseys.
All these CC uniforms are the product of some nerds in the office who want to impress everyone with their creativity. Honestly, I'd scrap all of them and just go back to gray on the road and white at home. If you need a red jersey, great -- wear it in spring training.
I love them as a Cards fan, I do hate the hat though.
Some teams want it to be conservative design and some go outta the box. At the end of the day these are specialty jerseys and fans should buy them however they feel. MLB should have teams wear these on Friday's and spring training games.
The arch/fleur de lies could have been on the cap instead of stl. Kind of like the guardian should be the cap logo for Cleveland's.
Actually, the Cardinals wore their red Spring Training jerseys during the regular season on August 28, 1999 as part of a promotional event that saw the Cardinals auction off the jerseys for charity

They could've modernize the St Louis Browns jerseys. at least i would do that
Personally I hate all of the city connect uniforms. My home team is the Tigers and I absolutely can not stand theirs. The whole city connect thing is nothing more than a money grab by MLB and Nike. Instead of worrying about these, Nike’s time would have been better spent trying to fix the terrible uniforms they unleashed on us for this season…
I’m also guessing that main reason why St Louis felt the need to do it is because Milwaukee had a really really popular city connect. People supported the Brew Crew design and it forced the Cardinals to join in.
Why, do we sometimes go out of our way, to give British citizens trolling ammunition?
They don't care , they play their CRICKET anyway
They should flush this uniform concept.
“The Bathroom”
You won't understand The Lou if you're not from St Louis.
The patch should have been the hat.
They have wore red jerseys before
DeWitt took the same approach to this that he has with the roster. Redbird nation will always support the team, so there is no need to do anything special.
It’s Fleur de “Lee” without the “s”.
I understand Tradition. Been a Cards fan for 45yrs and I wanted something "more out there". Like you say "The Lou" means bathroom to me, no disrespect to Nelly, but come on...that's makes the jerseys a meme and the butt of so many jokes.
They have this jersey on MLB the show 24
The hats are bad
🔥
It’s called city connect the point is not to look like another universe the point is to have a connect to the city it doesn’t have to be super different keeping it simples makes sure you don’t look like a clown team
It's literally a bathroom
I’m a St. Louis Cardinal fan. I think they rock I love the jerseys.
I hate the whole city connect concept. The only decent one at all is the Nationals. I’m a Phillies fan and theirs is objectively terrible in every possible way.
The Rays have the best ones by far
Even though the Philly one connects to the city 🏙️ history
People don’t bother reading 📖
@@zcorpalpha2462 I live here. That uniform is hideous and terrible and looks like something out of the movie Baseketball.
D-Backs’ Serpientes 🐍 is pretty clean imo.
It's not enough when teams change their regular jerseys and uniforms every 3 or 4 years, forcing you to 'keep up to date' with the new look, but then to add these ridiculous city jerseys is too much to bear, especially for the true, traditional fans. For example, the D-Backs Serpientes uniform looks like they're wearing pajamas. I HATE them! The Padres variant reminds me of Baskin Robbins colors, like I want to order an ice cream or something. I just wish they would stop making these ugly jerseys and spend the money on improving the teams instead!
The only thing I like is that it's not dark blue/grey like all others this year
These jetseys are going to sell out in Saint Louis because of phrase "the Lou" on it
Love the patch on the arm , all the rest - unnecessary.
( witnessed the 2006 WS Cardinals run when i spent a year in STL )
But please , don't talk smack about the Cards !
Aren't they like the second best team in terms of overall World Series won?
Baseball is a traditional conservative sport , unlike NFL & NBA.
I don't think you understand how crazy fanatic people in St. Louis are about their Cardinals and Baseball in general !
Unlike other cities , it is a Baseball city FIRST !
Btw "The Lou" if i am not mistaken , is a slang for the entertainment area of St. Louis with music bars & clubs.
Not that 🚽🙄
As a European , I always admired the US big four leagues for their "clean" uniforms look that didn't change every year - unlike European Football kits.
However circa 15 (?) years ago , little by little things changed.
First the onslaught of alternate uniforms started ( looking at you NBA ).
Now the NBA & NHL have sneakily introduced these disgraceful corporate sponsors on their uniforms over the last 6 (?) years.
Not as bad as European Football kits , but still.
Now even the NBA courts and surroundings are plastered in ad wordmarks , even the top camera basket view glass rim has an ad on it , where it 20 years ago simply said the teams URL - Mavs.com for example.
Even the basketball court design seems to constantly change ( looking at you Golden State Warriors , but also others ).
The MLB & NHL in recent years unfortunately have been following the NBA leading example concerning the overflow of alternate jerseys/uniforms.
I wish this greed and overcommercialization would stop.
Get a white and a colour jersey , alternates / thirds should be rare !
Keep jerseys for a period of 7 - 10 years , keep the sports pitches / courts as free/clean of distractions/ads as possible.
*Visual Pollution* is a thing !
Most importantly , keep the beloved classic team logos , uniforms , courts , pitches that have stood the test of time and keep it that way !
Corporate identity is a thing !
In pro sports , players and managers / coaches constantly change teams , there has to be a CONSTANT / CONTINUITY with the team name , team logo , team colours , team uniform , arena / stadium , announcers , etc. !
Weird to me how the US - who pioneered all that BRANDING and CORPORATE IDENTITY philosophy - is slowly forgetting its own wisdom ! 🤨🤔
Isn’t the “loo” a British way to say toilet?
Seems like the "City Connect" concept is all about connecting to the city, the fans, the life. I agree that not many other cities/teams are as connected as these two. If the fan base likes it and buys up the jerseys (once Nike/Fanatics stops making a garbage product), then they know they did it right. Not sure how much research Nike did or how much input/surveying happened with residents, but at least Bill DeWitt had input into what he was and wasn't gonna accept, and didn't run with whatever Nike vomited up to him. Jersey sales next year will do the talking.
As much as I dislike Dewitts running of the organization. I will say that he has been a great steward of the team's history and uniform.
At least put the Cardinals on The Gateway Arch…or Mark McGwire’s bicep. 🐥💉🐦🔥
Maybe it would be a good time to talk SF Giants while they are so hot...and Chapman omg
I mention this before, I HATE NIKE
Hopefully there is not many former citizens of Great Britain living in St Louis because "The Lou" sounds like the loo (bathroom)! Guess the French don't use the "loo" nickname (LOL)!!
My opinion: baseball is the most traditional, conservative sport, and the St. Louis Cardinals are one of the most traditional teams in sports. So in a world where seemingly every sport has to get “creative” or “different” , I commend the Cardinals for sticking to their values with their city connect jerseys. Everything has to be “unique” to stand out these days. It all blurs together and doesn’t actually end up standing out that much. My NFL and NBA teams can do all the crazy stuff they want. Let my cardinals be my cardinals.
I respect that but either go to the party and act like it, or just decline the rsvp 🤣
"We're traditional" is just about the biggest cop out in baseball, and just an excuse to keep being lame.
100% agree. Cardinals are traditional. Who says a team has to go crazy stupid?
They are exactly what we should have expected.
Of all the things going on in baseball, complaining about "city connect" uniforms seems .....................
At least, they’re prepared for a season down the toilet.
Could have implemented the arch and St. Louis is known as the gateway to the West.
This is as bad and boring as the Dodger’s first City Connect.
Lackluster. Shoulda had Fredbird on it.
I find the whole "city connect" uniforms to be a poor marketing move by Nike to sell jerseys. Most are ugly and stupid.
Go Cubs Go! ❤🐻⚾
They should have had two cardinals sitting on an outhouse with the words “The Loo” under it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
BOO!!! You assume CC jerseys are all about drastic change in style/color, buy it's not. It's about celebrating your city's unique features, culture, history, etc. If a club like the Red Sox make a drastic change there is a reason for it, not just for the sake of change! And expecting an organization like the Redbirds to pull a Colorado is silly. For a team as steeped in tradition, in a midwestern city with traditional values, expecting the Birds on the Bat not to make an appearance is like flying into NYC and expecting to see the Empire State building! Not gonna happen. They celebrated the team's history, the city's history, culture, geography and a prominent local artist while using a color for the first time in club history, that is the CC prugram is about.
PS; i saw your full CC review and personally I would say you misunderstand the program and that when it comes to taste most of ypurs is in your mouth.
101 years by the way. Look up 1956 Cardinals uniforms. They did away with the Birds on the
Bat. It didn't go over well with the folks back then.
I'm a Cards fan and I like them.
Very safe, but not terrible. Needed atleast the arch
I like having the birds on the bat, but I think that they could've incorporated the arch with the birds on the bat!!!!
As a cubs fan, these cardinals city connect uniforms are underwhelming.
The whole concept of city connect is to be bold and try something fun and different for the fans. St Lou total missed the boat and the jersey plane sucks as a city connect. This would make a nice new primary jersey, however.
The whole City Connect program is more for people who don’t particularly follow or like baseball. These are the next generation of fashion jerseys that first appeared in the 90’s. Instead of having them only seen in stores, they now force the teams to wear them on the field to help add some faux legitimacy to them.
The Padres uniforms look crazy,, but in a really good way.
So many idiots, so little time!!!
The Oakland A's city connect unis was a throwback to the pre-Charlie O.era. The name on the front was "Brokeland" spelled out in cursive white lettering with navy blue outline, and oh yeah it was also a red uni. You know, as in "in the red"? The elephant on the side patch is laid down, belly up. The patch on the other sleeve is sponsored by "Wish", who got these unis sent from a shady factory in China (Nike knockoff style). The number font is the same but there were no last name lettering since the team was too cheap to have them, but it's really pointless to have them in the first place. The most knowledgeable baseball insiders cant name you the A's top 3 players anyway. Wise decision for the A's to opt out.
I am a 50 year Cardinal fan and I would have been disappointed with anything else from them. Except I would have liked to have seen the arch instead of the birds on the bat on the front. The city connect jersey should be a nod to the city, not a nod to what the city could be in an alternate universe. If the city has a tradition of honoring its history then honoring the traditions is honoring the city. Anything else would be a slap in the face to the city. I will happily buy this jersey. If I was a fan of many of the other clubs I wouldn’t be caught dead in their city connect jersey.
Can’t wait for the Vegas A’s city connect jersey .. It will be a torn T shirt with a picture of a hobo on a freight car with the words next stop ?

I can’t stand the City Connect uniforms. Hopefully the MLB calls this off but it’s trending in the direction of the NBA. Sad to see. Feel like this is implied, but Rob Manfred sucks.
