Hi Teri. The comparison of an electric to acoustic is the same for guitars. You can learn to play on both, though it is good to learn acoustic prior to electric. The major advantage is the variety of sound you can create on an electric, in addition to playing different genres of music. Besides silent practice, the SVC also allows for AUX input, so you can play with your favourite backing tracks.

I'd like to know if there's any differences on the bridge/fingerboard compared to the SVC50 and also what are the best strings to use. I have SVC50 and just using Jargar strings, but there is ALOT of tension to press the strings. When I go to the cello shop and try out their different cellos it's like playing butter, you can do thumb positions and runs etc so easily, also the finger boards are wider so no drop offs when playing the A-string and also easier for thumb positions and higher register playing. On this cello it's really hard work, makes playing really advanced practice and pieces just undoable. So if you want to practice the EXTREME TRAINING for the Advanced Cellist by Cassia Harvey, it's a nightmare on this cello.

electric cellos cant amit sound without headphones or an amplifier. Its not a normal cello. It doesn't have a sound box. Meaning the only sound you'll hear is your bow gliding across the string. Which is the equivalent of rubbing your finger against a desk. Or another way to put it. Is if u were to tune ur strings to where they barely fall off. And try playing. You'll only hear faint sounds of vibration. but no actual pitch to hear. Understandable?

HI I have the Yamaha SVC50, the body shape is pretty much the same as this one in the video. YES you do get sound. The Yamaha electric cellos have a slim tiny RESONANT body, so it does emit quite enough sound for practicing without headphones or an amp. I've had my brother yelling at me to shut up from downstairs, with my door closed whilst I was practicing Suite for Cello by Gaspar Cassado. If the max volume of a full body resonant bassy cello is a a 10, this electric cello would be a 1 or 2 max.
My neighbours are old and deaf so they can't hear it. If you live in a shared house and want to practice all night, it will definitely be heard by your housemates. Depends if they like to sleep to your playing or not. i'm assuming the other reply doesn't know these Yamahas. It's definitely audible without an amp!! I often practice with and without headphones and also plug it into a bluetooth speaker. You can probably plug in an adapter to be able to use the bluetooth wirelessly.

@@CelloCoach Thank you so much for the reply. I love my 110. It is cool and I don't need to worry about bothering my neighbors while practice. But one thing definitely makes me wondering for a really long time-the posture. The first day I held the cello, I feel when I put the chest supporter against the right place of my body, the finger board and the first peg will not fall behind my ear perfectly. I think it is because the length of the chest supporter legs(the thing with yamaha logo) is fix and not flexible? I try to adjust the body touch point to chest supporter, the result is either my head hit the peg or the finger board is too high parallel with my eyes. It ends up my torso bending to fit the cello instead of keeping rigid. If I don't, the finger board will be far away left from my neck, having a 25- 30 degrees like this "/" .I still haven't found the solution. I searched the whole internet and cannot find any posture video using electric cello. Do you have the same issue with your 210? If there is a chance to show us the electric cello posture, it will be so great! Thanks.

Me too! Although I love my scv-110. Somet hing Johnathan didn't mention, both the 110 and 210 have a small sound box, they are not 100% electronic, like their predecessors. The chest rest transmits all the vibrations, I actually feel it more than in my acoustic cello.
