- Defunct Games reviews Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, available May 17 on PlayStation 4.
Although Sega hasn't added anything to this PlayStation 4 port, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered remains an exciting mix of third-person shooting and strategy role-playing. The lengthy quest can be a bit wordy at times, but that doesn't overshadow the great visuals and fun missions. Even if this isn't a genre you normally enjoy, Valkyria Chronicles may be fast-paced enough to change your mind.

It really baffles me how this wasn't more popular. I've never met anybody that played it and didn't love it. Probably would have done well if they gave it more marketing. Hope they do a remaster of the sequels on PS4.
I always aim for the head when I'm in that close with a scout, they tend to be accurate enough even at medium range for headshots. Anyway, this was a real opportunity for them to include a translated version of VC3 (and maybe VC2 as well). Oh well, I've still got my copy of 2, and an "illegimate" copy of VC3. Hope this does well and we get another game in the series (hopefully this time for PS4, and not for Vita lol).
Can't wait for the remaster to come to the Switch
Between Valkyria Chronicles 4 and the upcoming remaster, it's going to be a good couple months for Switch owners who love Valkyria. Both are definitely worth picking up (though VC4 is better).
I thought I was the only one who took a liking to VC2!! Got over 130 hrs in but that last mission omg.. I really should get back to it.. I’m quite getting into VC4 now though.. The series is basically Fire Emblem in the WWII era with a Trails of Cold Steel type atmosphere..
Played this on my Ps4 last night and hated the menu music I turned it all the way down. The game play was tough and I gave up on the first tank level. Might go back to it and give it a second shot.
I never played this series for the PS3 and I first heard about it from articles on the game, Lost Dimension, which they compare the gameplay with VC and I really like the gameplay for Lost Dimension. When I heard they are porting it to the PS4, I couldn't wait to play the game.
Awesome, I never finished this on ps3 and I don't own it anymore :( so I am all in on this title.
+Hayseed1976 Perfect! You won't be disappointed with this PS4 port (or the ending of the game).
.. i have seen valkyria chronicles on many people's ps3 best lists. i have never played it. would someone not into strategy games enjoy it?
+Wil Rivera Yes, I think you would. It's a lot more fast-paced than the typical strategy role-playing game, thanks in large part to the third-person action mechanics. You still need to play it strategic, but I have long felt that this is the kind of accessible mash-up that grows the genre and brings new players in.
So what is actually the difference between the Steam version and this remake? Better textures and higher resolution?
I mean, visually. As the content is the same.
+MrVankog Honestly, there isn't much of one. I loaded up the game on Steam and it looks and runs the same to my eyes. Both run at 1080p and 60 fps. There's no new content or anything in this PS4 version, either. So if you already own the Steam port from a while back, then I would stick with that. But this is a good way to get it for console players who missed out on the PS3 original.
I thought it had all the past DLC?
mjs141822 It does
This or The Banner Saga?
Oof, that's a hard choice. I really, really like The Banner Saga, but would probably give the edge to Valkyria. Perhaps that's just nostalgia bleeding through, but you can't go wrong with either.
The Chronic-
What?!
