    I go to UCLA and am about to be a third year this fall. Ok so first, enrollment is fucking hell everyone wants the same classes. Second, the classes are really hard but that also depends on your major. Third, Even though this school is hard and stressful I have never been more happy than when I live at UCLA. It is so fun and one of the best experiences I've ever had. I should add though that I am very social and love meeting people but I believe everyone meets their perfect friends at this school.

      Kevin, I'm going to guess that you're a social science major, based off of what you stated, and I'm going to say you're a sociology major. I x'd out engineering and bio sciences because you would have listed it first as far as difficulty, and you're extremely social, which most students at UCLA are, but your major's not holding you back on the social scene.

    Edit: I guess I’m lucky I decided to get an eboard for Black Friday since you mentioned the walking distance. I will definitely struggle in college though since I’m taking an architecture major for my parent’s business. Architecture courses are extremely difficult and competitive from what I heard and to make it worse, I’m gonna try to a second major if possible for me since I also want to try out computer science and business. Might be though but definitely no impossible and it will be worth it in my opinion.

    I’m really worried that maybe UCLA isn’t the right fit for me. I mean I live pretty close to campus. And I already have my academics planned out leading to eventually transferring to UCLA. But I have social anxiety, and UCLA is a HUGE school. I heard it’s easy to get lost in the sea of students, and that you don’t always feel like you belong. Especially as a transfer, I heard it’s hard to make friends, because everybody’s already made friends and is too busy studying. If it’s overly crowded and you’re not very good with socializing like me, I feel like that’s a recipe for disaster. I don’t want to end up finally getting in...just to feel alone and isolated.

    • @lifeofmeili
      @lifeofmeili  Před 3 lety +1

      that's a totally valid concern! yes UCLA is definitely a large school, but I think it really depends on how involved you get. Clubs/organizations are a great way to meet people and make the big campus feel more personal. Even though there are a ton of students, I feel like I've found my "home" within UCLA and honestly I love the large student population! But at the end of the day it's important to choose what's best for you :)

    • @lifeofmeili
      @lifeofmeili  Před 3 lety +1

      also even though I'm not a transfer student, I have many friends who are and they say they felt so welcomed when they joined! I'm actually planning on filming a Q&A video with some transfer students, so if you have any particular questions lmk what you'd be interested in hearing about :)

      @@lifeofmeili Hey thanks for your reply, I didn’t get the notification until just now. Yeah, I’ve heard that people who are extroverts really enjoy the social atmosphere of UCLA, some people though say it can feel a bit cold and distant. You’re right though, it depends on how you choose to involve yourself on campus and with other students. However, I’ve heard that students at UCLA are very competitive, so I don’t know how that fits into the social atmosphere. Also, you know the TAP (Transfer Alliance Program)? Berkeley mentions on their website that around 80% of TAP participants get admitted there. I reached out to somebody in admissions at UCLA, who was listed as a source to answer any questions you might have....and she’s opened my email but hasn’t responded :(

      @dotjai330 Před rokem

      remember you're there for school, not a social event to make friends.
      Focus on why your there. College is your job to learn what you want to do and it's your job training to be prepared after graduation. You will have plenty of time to make friends and socialize after school is done.

Now, as you both know, there's the Data Science Engineering minor which would be great to attach to Econ or Bizecon. And yes, I lived in a dorm with AC but a lot of my friends didn't, and they said it was fine. Most people buy mini plug in fans and that seems to work well! And for orientation, you get the same chances of getting into a class no matter what session you go to! They set aside a specific number of open spots for each session, so that each session has a fair chance, whether you have orientation at the beginning or end of summer. Hope this helps!

    Were you able to get any scholarships as a out of state student? I’m apply this fall and I’m worried about ways to pay for school because the tuition for out of state is expensive

    • @austinmcbride5876
      @austinmcbride5876 Před 4 lety +2

      UCLA is awful at giving out of state students financial aid, I received nothing even though FAFSA advised UCLA could pay 30,000 (basically half the full 65,000 UCLA out of state tuition) my advice is make sure that you are ready to not receive aid or really begin applying for many outside scholarships

      While in high school start applying for scholarships and grants. Can your parents fund your education? Did they save or have a 529 plan. Talk to your parents so you know where you stand or else you might take out student loans. Don’t do this on your own. Your parents should be every step of the way with you. Good luck!

      Getting into a school and getting your degree is good. You got to compete with others for a job unless you got connection.

My husband is retiring and he got same line staffs who graduated from USC UCLA etc. We got a daughter graduating from UCM this April/May. She already has a part time job and will be full time when she graduated.

I LOVE UCLA, it’s been my dream school forever & I absolutely love cali, & honestly like being in debt is starting to not look so bad just because I really want to go. hey! i'm pretty sure since UCLA is a public school, after the first year you can become a California resident and pay in-state tutiton, which is what my cousin did for his school (fyi I am currently a graduating senior planning to go to ucla). however i do think that FASFA and scholarships are the two biggest ways to get money, yet if you have good test scores and grades the school may offer you merit-based money. i hope that helps :)

And yes there is smog, so if your lungs are sensitive I would be mindful of that! It hasn't been a huge problem for me though - and it's better/worse during certain times of the year.

    I just got in from the waitlist for Pre Business Economics at UCLA. My goal is a business major (I'm currently enrolled in Boston Uni's business) but I've read that UCLA's Pre Business Economics major isn't the typical business major. Are there big differences between UCLA's Business Economics vs a typical Business Administration major? If so, what are they?
    I was hoping for a more traditional business track that can set me up right for a management career after college (not looking to get a Master's degree). Wondering if UCLA's Business Economics fits that category.

    • @lifeofmeili
      @lifeofmeili  Před 4 lety +3

      I was in the same situation when I was deciding my college! I was hesitant to go to UCLA at first bc they didn't have a typical "business school", while other schools I'd been accepted to did. While I can't definitely say one is better than the other (because I've only had experience at UCLA), I can confidently say I'm glad I chose UCLA and have no regrets! As an undergrad I don't have super niche business classes, but I do have the typical econ/accounting/marketing sort of classes!

UCLA has minors in Accounting and Entrepreneurship which anyone can take -- Accounting is essential for Finance, and a lot of Bizecon majors are attaching Statistics (short major) by doubling or minoring it it. Some are attaching the Specialization in Computing. Additionally, Stats is about to change its name to Statistics and Data Science, so seemingly there could be Business Economics, Statistics and Data Science graduates. There are also minors in Data Science Engineering and Social Data Science.
