- Did you know that an underage fan once physically attacked the Three Stooges and that two members of the troupe suffered childhood injuries? Diehard fans of the Three Stooges may have noticed while watching some of the troupe’s classic shorts that the character of Curly always walked with a limp. This iconic limp wasn’t a creative choice made by the actor who played him. Curly was played by Jerome Howard, who suffered a firearm accident when he was younger that affected his walk. This accident resulted in the character of Curly having his iconic limp.

Oddly, Jerome Howard wasn’t the only member of the Three Stooges that suffered a serious injury as a child. Founding member Larry Fine suffered from a severe chemical burn during his childhood years, which necessitated several skin grafts. During physical therapy, young Larry took up the violin. These violin skills later came in handy during the filming of the Three Stooges’ most classic shorts!
Though Jerome Howard wasn’t a founding member of the Three Stooges, he shared it’s blood! Jerome was the younger brother of founding members Moe and Shemp Howard. When Shemp left the troupe early on, Moe brought Jerome in to replace him. Many consider Jerome’s character of Curly to be the most iconic of the Three Stooges, and his unique limp was a big part of the character’s appeal! Join Facts Verse as we take a look at how Curly didn’t fake his limp on the Three Stooges (his real-life injury).

Curly was iconic and funny and sadly he died too young, I love Curly. Facts Verse, please also bring the story of the talented and brilliant Shemp.
Well said, we agree! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestion. We won't promise you anything but we'll look into Shemp ❤
Curly copied his boss, Ted Healy, in the drinking department. That's why he fell ill, because he didn't like having to shave his head for the act, because he made himself think his shaved dome was turning off the women, even though he was popular with them all his life.
I love watching the three stooges of all of them my favorite was curly and shemp.
Shemp sucked.
Thank you for sharing your favorite Stooge! Which episode appealed to you the most?
Curly was my favorite out of all of them. He was the funniest of all of them.
Thank you for sharing your favorite Stooge! How about the episode that appealed to you the most?
I will be looking forward to seeing a video about Shemp Howard in the future as he and Curly are my favorites.
Began watching and all 4 were great. I really liked Shemp's performances a lot and was sad he didn't do more episodes. But, I'd agree Curly was the funniest. Love the episode where when he hears the song, ? All Around the Mulberry Bush ?, he turns into an unbeatable boxer!
We strongly concur! Thank you for sharing your insights. What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
Loved Curly, and even had a brother who kept his hair cut the same way...prayers 4 you curly..🙏🙏🙏
All of the three stooges had talents rarely shown on screen. Curley, despite his limp was an accomplished ball room dancer. Larry could play just about any instrument he picked up and was going to go to Germany to study music in 1914 when WWI halted his plans. Moe they say had a photographic memory and could memorize whole scripts including all of the parts. These three were incredibly talented people whose talents were never fully recognized by Harry Cohan the head of Columbia pictures.
We feel the same way! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
Like thousands and thousands of others, the Stooges were my favorite comedy team. I guess that's why they're still being loved today. Curly was my favorite but each of the four main group had their strength
Thank God the young guy is safe .
Curly was definitely the heart of the Stooges.
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
Curly definitely was the greatest one no dought about it it shouldn't even be a question.....

It’s a shame Curly really did put himself into a very early grave. Too much drinking, too much eating and too much late night life all causing very high blood pressure and finally he stroked out at only 48 years old.
Correction: Curly passed Jan. 18.1952
curly always was my favorite to bad they never made any movies just the shorts they made
We're glad to know that you love Curly! What other types of videos would you like to see on our channel?
Abbott & Costello
That is so sad. I've never been around a stroke victim and do they have a lot of pain? Well hopefully if he did the doctors back then would help him and not like they do now.
He didn't die in 51 he died in 52
Love all 6, but Curly is my favorite. Also, I'd seen on another video that Larry incorporated his real-life proficiency on the violin into the series. It was noted that when the boys were playing instruments, Larry truly played, while the others only mimed. However, Larry was also shown to play piano in some episodes. So I'm wondering if Larry really played piano, also, or just mimed.
Thank you for sharing your favorite Stooge! How about the most memorable episode for you?
@@FactsVerse You're welcome. "Disorder In The Court".
I'm surprised that he didn't want to have the surgery done on his leg.
True, but I'd heard he had a fear about it.
When my family was younger we loved the three stooges . One was me and one was Frankie and one was Beverly and we would laugh .
My mother and step father name us and would tease us whenever they would come on t.v.
We're happy to know that you and your family love the Three Stooges! What is your favorite episode?
Curly was my favorite Stooge, followed by Shemp, but Curly died in 1952, not '51. He also hated shaving his head for the act because he felt women would find him unattractive even though he was popular with them all his life. He also took to wearing a hat in public, saying he felt like a little kid with his head shaved.
One of our favorites too, you've got fine taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
I LOVE IT; WHENMOETAKINGCARE;OF HIS BROTHERCURLY; AND LOOKING AFTER HIM; GOOD WORK MOE:❤❤😊😊
For those of us that never noticed the limp, why didn't you show a clip of that?

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Curleys last appearance in the Three Stooges he was sitting under a blanket in a train car with Larry and Moe sitting in the seats across from him you really didn’t see him but you knew it was him because of people telling you it was.
I remember that one. I agree with you.
They meant that Half Wits Holiday was Curly's last appearance as a regular member of the Stooges.
Yes. He played a dude who was snoring. They removed his hat, put a clothespin on his nose, and replaced his hat. Though all Curly did was snore, it is often referred to as the only time that all 3 Howard brothers appeared onscreen together, albeit with Curly in a non-speaking, uncredited cameo. At least, all 3 acting Howards. Shemp was 3rd-eldest, as there were 2 older siblings who didn't enter showbiz, though I can't recall if they were 2 girls, 2 boys, or a girl and a boy.
I love the Three Stooges all of them I wasn’t too fond of Joe Besser though LOL!
None of us liked him.
I totally agree with you there guys joe was the worst actor in the three Stooges stop hitting me I absolutely hated hated joe besser was lame he wasn't even funny man in the three Stooges
@@cameronheidelauf9623 He was funnier when he played stinky on the Abbott and Costello show
We're happy to know that you love all of the Three Stooges. Which episode appealed to you the most?
@@donhurst8459 Not to be disagreeable, but I liked him. Not as much as the others, but I still like him.
You missed Moe's fall in the chapter where they came out like scots... In that scene they played some carpenters where they tried to put a door... Curly cuts a piece of wood on the table and Moe moves... He falls and It is where he broke three ribs but he continued.. But I can't take it anymore and he fainted
And they weren’t even paid what they deserved to be paid.
The pay thry got stunk .they really got screwed over!
@@hellraiserx9490 Apparently the boss had mob connections so they were kind of scared to ask him
@@bachthe1st557 that’s something I never heard before.
They were only given one year contracts , Being told that the studio is in a financial crisis. So they were screwed even when they tried to negotiate.
Curly resting in the director's chair between takes on Halfwits' Holiday is no legend. Moe Howard wrote about it in his autobiography, "I Stooged to Conquer" which was published after Moe's death in 1975. Moe wrote that was what happened and about how he found Curly in that chair after the stroke.
Steve Gallo-Moe's book was later retitled Moe Howard And The Three Stooges. Moe stated that when he went to look for Curly, he found him slumped in Jules White's director's chair with his head dropped to his chest, and mouth distorted; he was unable to speak, only cry from the immense pain from his stroke.
I never knew that curly had a limp. Thanx for sharing this.
Larry is my fav due to personal resemblance
Curley died on January 18 1952.
Curly is my best.
Thank you for sharing your favorite Stooge! How about the episode that appealed to you the most?
shemp howard was funny too can i get a men out there????
Amen. Shemp's dedication to his brothers and Larry was really something special. Even though he wanted to do his own thing, he came back to help them out while Curly was in bad shape, and that's something to be appreciated.
Which decade is this?
Just a warning I’m not putting down this video but the Social Security stimulus crap they put in a commercial before it don’t do it! Your phone will ring off the hook for days
He was the greatest of the stooges he was the funniest
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
Nothing new...any REAL Stooge fan already knew this.
Curly was my favorite stooge
Us too! Who comes in at second place?
Ted Healy founded the troupe
I never understood the humor of people getting hurt and watching it and laughing at it.🤕
It's really called slapstick comedy that's why
It was only pretend. If it were real, I don't see how people could conscionably watch it, not to mention laugh. Also, the sound effects added to the laughter.
Because it is mostly a GUY THING!
