This one thing fixes the one big problem with TTYD: BACKTRACKING for that mandatory side quest. Chapter 4 is the only kind of back tracking that I’m okay with.
and I think you MUST backtrack because in that chapter you play in the same area

How is it a side quest if it's mandatory?
Agreed. In Chapter 4 the backtracking is part of the whole gimmick and it’s not that bad since it’s all part of the same area. Chapter 7 General White backtracking however is atrocious.
My guess is that:
1) there is now a rogueport pipe DIRECTLY to the pipes.
2) the pipes now bring you to much more convenient spots for the mandatory quests.
Or 3) selecting on the map has a warp pipe spawn under you to warp there
It would be amazing if we could just go to the map and choose where we want to go
It was shown in some gameplay it’s basically like the fast travel room in origami king where each chapter you’ll unlock a new pipe, and you can access it from the main square of rogueport

Its very similar to Origami king's pipe system and there's a normal pipe that goes straight down in the middle of rogueport
Nostalgic tunes badge is fantastic. I low-key was a little worried I'd be forced to play the game with Nintendo's new take on the OST. There's something about the original that's just too special.

Agreed but I’m really bummed, that they got rid of the charming sounds when you collected the shine sprites or items. I really hope the badge changes those sounds too. That’s part of what helped make the game so charming.

Regarding the Warp Pipes: On the German Nintendo site they say (translated into English): "A new room with pipes hidden behind Rogueport lets Mario quickly return to the areas he has already completed" - So either they upgraded the existing Warp Pipe room to include more Locations there or it's something completely different.
We finally bring the soundtrack from the GameCube, I can’t wait to get this game
Is it similar to how Super Paper Mario did that enables you to quickly jump into Flipside (and I assume this one allows you to travel to different hub points)?

Maybe the Quick Travel pipes have more than one destination? Like the chapter 1 pipe can take you to Petalburg or Hooktail's Castle, the chapter 2 pipe can take you to the Great Tree or Flurrie's house, the chapter 4 pipe can take you to Twilight Town or Creepy Steeple, etc
I'm glad the original music can still be used. The SMRPG remake allowed that, as well. Maybe the inventory in this game can be fixed, as well. Maybe allow up to 10 of the same item and the Strange Sack allows you to carry up to 20 of the same item. Also, make a Life Shroom P item so fainted partners don't use a regular one, when their HP reaches "0". That was so annoying in the original version and it could essentially fuck you over, in the Pit of 100 Trials.
So there's some footage of this already on Nintenduo World's CZcams. It's a giant room in the sewers that has 7 empty spots in a circle for pipes to show up and one green pipe in the bottom right corner of the room that directly leads to Rougeport's central area. It's extremely convenient. There's also one giant grey block and one giant yellow block at the top of the room, as well as a pedestal in the center, just like the one in the Thousand Year Door room.
General White quest and Twilight Trail no longer being tedious?
This is a major improvement from the backtracking from looking for General White.

I really hope they don't overcorrect here...
For example, a ton of people complain about the backtracking in Chapter 4, but most of the trips between the town and steeple have a narrative purpose. You're meant to feel what Mario is going through by actually playing it. So cutting those trips out by letting you warp around too much would do the game a disservice.
Hopefully that will fix the slog that is General White.

That’s actually pretty nice considering the fact that some of those side quests required lots of backtracking !
I hope by "improved" they mean "more of them" because it was pretty annoying to not have a shortcut to Twilight Town and some other places.
This new change is fantastic! Much better than the four pipes that only lead to Chapter 1, 2, 5 and 6. I also hope we get the Return Pipe from Super Paper Mario for a one way trip back to Rogueport from most areas of the game, but I'm obviously not getting my hopes up.
(Obviously, if we do get a Return Pipe, it would have to be disabled during certain chapters. IYKYK.)

From what I've read, it seems to be more of an upgraded warp pipe hub in Rogueport, that shouldn't affect the chapter in question (though it would be nice to unlock a quick return pipe *after* that chapter)

Yeah, the current solution is definitely an upgraded warp pipe hub. I was more saying I would like a quick return pipe on top of this upgraded hub, seeing as we had it in Super Paper Mario.
I doubt we will get both, but just having this better hub is a gigantic step up from the GCN original TTYD.

If it's the case where the Crystal Stars can spawn the pipes to the areas that they were collected in, then I think that the pacing of Chapter 6 can be easily streamlined.

I never had a problem with this, personally. Besides there are badges which allow you to overcome the issues of enemies getting in your way.

Frankly I'm just hoping this "update to quick travel" will at least make the backtracking for the General White search a LOT more tolerable.
Also yeah, the old soundtrack being an option is most certainly a welcome feature.

I wonder if they’re adding new pipes, or making them easier to use? Perhaps instead of 2 corridors, it’s a singular large room with more pipes?
Would love if you go into the pipe and it shows every screen for that particular area and you select the one you want to go to.

I saw that there are longplays of the original game that are over 20 hours long. But a good amount of that is probably spent backtracking. This new feature may make completing the game go a lot quicker.

We already seen a reviewer get to the sewer, its 1 room now with all pipes in there. Theres also extra pipes there to access other chapters easier all chapters have pipes there now in that 1 room.
