  • How To Get Rid of Tinnitus (Cervical) | Dr. Jon Saunders | Newmarket Chiropractor
In this video Dr. Jon Saunders will give you 3 ways to help get rid of tinnitus. If tinnitus (ringing in ears) has part of its cause coming from your neck, some relief is achievable. Dr. Jon Saunders will show you tinnitus stretches, tinnitus exercises, trigger point therapy and even an ear adjustment that just may help.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound without external stimulation. Cervical tinnitus or cervicogenic tinnitus is a diagnosis by exclusion. Between 5% and 15% of the general population report tinnitus which has a major negative impact on quality of life. To diagnose cervical tinnitus or cervicogenic tinnitus, there should be evidence of neck problems/issues (i.e., appropriate imaging studies like x-rays) AND modulation of tinnitus by neck movement which is often associated with neck stiffness or pain.
There are many causes of tinnitus such as age-related hearing loss (presbyacusis), noise exposure, infections of the inner ear, inner ear problems like Meniere’s Disease, medication side effects, neurological conditions, and rarely tumours. Always check with your doctor to get an appropriate diagnosis.

About 3 and a half years ago, I was on the computer in weird position for HOURS a day. My back and neck contorted from a nervous neck tic I had for 10 years. (which I did in private, nobody knew).=, and had a crooked jaw from grinding right sight teeth. One day, I decided to do push ups out of my chair. Did 10, and my ear immediately rang so loud that I feel in the floor. Had tinnitus since then, and only really discovered about 6 months ago that it was ALL from my neck and TM joints. Been doing exercises like these and I would say I've lessened my tinnitus about 90%. Now it only flairs up if I sleep wrong on my pillow. But I KNOW that I can still improve.

Ive had ringing tinnitis on my left side for 20yrs??? and a clicking tinnitis on my right side for less time. Ive tried the 'tapping' on the back of the head/neck which seemed to work for a short period of time. However, your finger pressure in the same place seems to have worked!!! I'm so used to ringing in my head im not sure that its gone or that what i am hearing is the silence i havnt heard for so long. But i feel it has worked - maybe thats why i am now in tears. Even if its only short lived - you have helped me. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go online and find a frequency generator.
You can adjust the frequency and find the ring in your ear. It doesn’t have to be loud. But you’ll find a very peculiar outcome when you find the right frequency in your ear(s)…

Out of all the people I've spoken to none gave me answers. I've always had a knowing that it's my body. Now I'm doing something called dct (dynamic contraction technique ) and working on body awareness. It's hard not to be overwhelmed. Even ten years plus later. I have to undo my conditioning from a stationary family on my mothers side.

I have had tinnitus both the ringing and pulsatile for about 3 years. I have learned to “ignore it” but some days it is extremely loud and it gets to my nerves. I have TMJ and I thought that was the cause of it, but because of a horrible neck pain )actually my whole upper body) I got some X-rays done 2 days ago. Yesterday I got the results and it says that I have loss of cervical lordosis, and that can cause tinnitus as well. I feel broken and frustrated. I have another appointment next week to see how can I be fixed. Wish me luck. Thanks for the video.

I developed neck related tinnitus in 2006. Doctors used to dismiss my assertion that it is coming from neck muscles with disdain. In my case it is associated with fibromyalgia and stress. When I am stressed my neck muscles become tense and the best remedy is to reduce stress. It is important to manage anxiety and stress to get relief with this condition.

As a work from home office worker and digital musician, it's hard to tell whether my tinnitus is caused by ear fatigue or poor posture. I suspect that both things are contributors, but after trying your techniques, I literally felt a rush of warmth and openness in my ears and my tinnitus went down in volume significantly. I tried each of the techniques shown in your video so I'm not sure which one had the most impact. Thanks for the video!
I first noticed my tinnitus on my left ear last November when I was lying on the couch. I thought I was just hearing the fridge or something else from the floor above, but when I sat up the sound was "on" my ear. I had it for two days straight before it disappeared for a couple of weeks. Since then I've had from time to time, but it didn't really bother me much because it would only last for a day or two each time.
Two and a half weeks ago I went through a lot of stress. Since then the tinnitus has been there pretty much all the time, although I've had maybe two or three days without any symptoms. Like stated above, the sound from a fridge is how I best can describe my tinnitus. However, when the tinnitus is at its loudest its almost as if I can hear my own pulse. I struggle sleeping at night and concentrating at work, where I spend most of my time in a chair reading studies for my PhD project. I know for a fact that my posture isn't the best, so that is something I'm working on to improve. I went to an ENT specialist last Monday for a hearing test, and the conclusion was that my hearing is completely normal. On Friday I'm having an MRI, and I'm also seeing a naprapat on Wednesday. The quality of life has changed dramatically since this problem worsened, and the whole situation feels hopeless.
Personally I believe that my tinnitus is of the somatic type as it is influenced by head movement. I've observed several times that the sound gets louder when I bend my head forward, whereas the opposite happens when I bend it backwards. Sometimes it even disappears completely when I do the latter. When this happens it's kinda like a button which lets me turn the tinnitus on and off. I should also note that the tinnitus disappears as long as I hold my finger in the ear.
What do you make of my symptoms/observations, and what do you think I should do next? Does it seem likely that my tinnitus can be treated and disappear for good?

    • @drjonsaunders
      @drjonsaunders  Před 2 lety +3

Thanks for your question...it sounds like you are doing the correct things - ruling out other potential causes seeing an ENT and getting an MRI. If your tinnitus is somatic, then you should be able to get rid of it...try some of the things in the video...all the best!

You might conservative strenghten all neck muscles for long periode. While the excercises can increase the volume, but in the long run decrease the volume. Maybe not help you, but helped me. Took me 8 months to decrease volume significantly, still exercise and I think I will get rid of it. No tinnitus on the right side anymore so I have hope.

there is vascular loop arising from the basilar artery on the left side and which is extending downwards near to the cisternal segment of the trigeminal nerve and closely abutting it superiorly at a distance approx 7.8mm from the nerve root entry zone at the level of pons. the trigeminal nerve proximal and distal to the vascular loop shows no obvious change in size / volume. No such similar vascular loop noted on the right side.
the above line are in the report of mine from MRI, i have tinnitus problem also, hearing the beep tone continuously, and have dizziness and unsteadiness. is there any solution???

I would suggest getting a limiter/compressor for your audio. Your voice gets really loud and then I turn it down, only to find your audio has gotten quiet again. A compressor/limiter would equalize out the loud and quiet volume levels of your voice.

Hi, I've had chronic tinnitus for 5 years, along with a crazy amount of tension from my trapezius all the way to the back of my head and SCM muscles. I've had an MRI scan and also have no hearing loss and have pinned it down to neck tension being the reason for the cause, especially when mine started several months after I changed to a bad sitting posture with my laptop. How long should I work on doing these exercises to get rid of my tinnitus, could it take at least 3 months or longer? Thanks.

Using NSAIDS can cause tinnitus, sinus infections can cause tinnitus and ear infections or damage from chronic ear infections can cause tinnitus. Being in an acidic condition can also cause tinnitus. I had a friend who came to my house one night with severe tinnitus from taking too much aspirin for days over a toothache he had. He was in tears, so I took him to the emergency room at North Florida Regional Hospital. They gave him an intravenous drip of bicarbonate of soda and by the time they were done, his tinnitus was gone. I have had tinnitus for years and years because of sinus and ear infections I had for a long time. An olive oil/garlic juice remedy is the best for ear infections. Just mash a garlic clove into a small quantity of olive oil and pour through a strainer and put a couple drops in each ear once a day until the ear infection is gone.
This has helped me a lot and healed my ear infections and largely reduced my tinnitus to a functional level.

So we need to protect ourself from loud sounds even far more ? ...it is really official otherwise because logically that is the truth..especially when noises create more pain in the ears. Please address this question with your professional opinion? The only relief I've ever found is from Prednisone. I've been prescribed it a few times since my tinnitus started and each time my tinnitus goes away until I taper off Prednisone.
